converting midi files
what program will convert midi files on my pc so they can be played on my keyboards i can play files by casio roland and technics
making music is IT.
As I read the commercial at the top of this page for acid music maker, I have to add that these types of software are the best thing that has happened to the music industry, not exactly the recording industry per se, but the community of music makers, djs, producers, music lovers and remixing freaks. Besides the obvious add above, another powerful remixing tool is Mixman Studio, with slightly different features and a unique interface, Mixman is a totally fun software to have also and it has the hook up to export mixes onto mp3 and a few other formats. The others probably have similar features, but in my case I'd stick with my the one I have, cuz it has worked for me so far. I thought I'd give the forum a fair chance to hear from the other side, since ther are no ads here for Mixman. All good AS LONG AS THE MUSIC IS ON THE FOREGROUND.

Thanks for the opinion. I thought i'd take the opportunity to attempt to recruit you to a new forum which deals in helping people get a site together in order to help people get their music heard. It sounds like your a musician yourself (or creator of music), have you ever thought of the idea of having your own free site and linking to some other users sites? The general feeling is that it bypasses the music industries 'closed doors' approach and helps us all get our music out there for downloading. It is NOT a commercial venture and involves nothing other than input from yourself for yourself. Pop along, it's just starting out and could do with a few messages on the forum if nothing else. If you have any questions how it can work for you then just ask the forum!!

A TOTAL RECORDER QUESTION (NOT RECORDING ANYTHING)
THANKS TO THIS GREAT SITE I FINALLY FOUND A WAY TO RECORD STREAMING AUDIO TO WAVE THEN BURN 'EM FOR LATTER LISTENING PLEASURE.
PROBLEM IS I CAN'T RECORD ANY SOUND ANYMORE.THE PROGRAM APPERARS TO BE WORKING AND EVEN THE FILE SIZE GROWS. BUT THE BAR IN THE STATUS WINDOW JUST SITS THERE...
I HAVE TRIED CHANGING THE DEVICE SETTINGS ETC. ALL I HAVE CHANGED IS A WIN 95 98 UPGRADE AND I HAVE REINSTALLED THE TOTAL RECORDER PROGRAM.

Thank you very much for your response. I have found who the blonde singer was. I can't believe that she was Vertical Limit's actress Izabella Scorupco. Some info I found:
By 1989, Scorupco was back in Sweden, trying her father's calling: She cut a single, "Substitute," which went gold, as did an album called "Iza." The single "Shame, Shame, Shame" and album "Independence" followed. Her music has been compared to ABBA, and it's been oft-reported that she is a huge fan of that Nordic group's tunes. When asked on this day, however, she simply replies, "Well, yeah, well," as though she's heard that rumor, too.

I know some band or singer has recorded it again some years ago but I don't the name, so it might have been some blond singer.

The Shirley is Shirley Goodman from the New Orleans, Louisiana area... She is also the Shirley of Shirley and Lee, "Come on Baby Let the good times roll"

Hold on a second there! I think you're looking for the same one I'm looking for. The original is indeed Shirley & Company, but I'm looking for one by a singer named Isabella. I had the CD Single when I lived in Germany in around 1991, and it was stolen. Now it's as if it never existed, and my friends & I are killing ourselves trying to replace it. All I know was the girl's name was Isabella, she was blonde, and it was a GREAT remake -- dance version.

I have an Atari ST and am running Cubase 2.1 with it. As long as I write the midi files on my pc to a DD disk there's no problem. Maybe you've been trying to load the songs from a HD diskette, and that could be a problem cause the Atari has a DD floppy drive. Just try DD diskettes.

That's good advice there bouy...
The best thing to do would be to format the DD disks on the Atari in DOS format. This can be done with certain programs you may already have on the Atari as I don't remember DOS formatting being part of the ST's operating system. The PC should then be able to read the format and both the machines will be happy... If you do format the disk on the PC then make sure it's a DD disk and not an HD, but you'll have to format the disk as a 720k disk (that you might have to do from DOS itself, I don't know, I use a Mac...).

I'm looking for a program which will help me automatically crossfade (which will also probably be easy to crossfade between 2 songs by myself without using the audo crossfade option as well),
and a program that lets me cut out part of the song as well (wav file). For instance, if the song is 5:16, and I only want to keep the first 4 minutes of that song..... how do I cut out the rest so it doesn't automatically burn the whole song to the cd (some songs have talking in them at the end, etc., which gets to be a pain).
Not to mention, how do you convert the audio part (just the music part) of a .. mpg (mpeg) file (which is a video file)..... to an mp3 or wav file. I just want to be able to convert the audio (of the video file which has audio in it as well) part into a wav or mp3 file. How do I do that? Thanks!
The reason I want to learn how to crossfade between songs is that I want to do it like a DJ does. You know what I'm saying? I want to have the last few seconds of a certain song overlapped (while you can still hear the end of the 1st song in the background) with the beginning of the next song. That means both songs will be playing at the same time for a few seconds or so, but that's it (the 1st song will be ending though). I want to be able to do this and make a whole cd or more than one cd doing this, and I "don't" want the whole cd to be just one wav file. If I have 17 songs or so crossfading (one going into the 2nd song. The 2nd song going into the 3rd song, 3rd into the 4th song, etc.) ... crossfading, than I "want" to be able to have 17 tracks on the cd (since there are 17 songs being cross-faded one into each other as the cd goes on).
Can somebody please tell me of a program (or programs) that can do all of this, or some of this out of everything that I'm looking for.

Problem with MusicMatch and Plextor?
I recently purchased a Plextor Plexwriter
12x/10x/32x for my home and for my office.
Office running Win NT 4.0, Home running Win 98 SE.
Both machines are similar in their makeup
(PII-300, 256 mb Ram, etc).
MusicMatch (which I have registered) runs perfectly
on the NT machine, giving me MP3 rips of up to 10x.
On the 98 SE machine, however, I get no more than 3x,
and the track times are all messed up
i.e. Gloria Estefan's "Go Away" single:
Acutal Time Music Match time shown
1. 4:17 27:26
2. 6:14 23:08
3. 6:30 16:53
4. 5:02 10:21
5. 5:18 5:18
Regardless of which CD I put in, all
the track times are off, except for the
last. Of course, CDDB does not recognize
the CD from the information provided. :(
I've made sure my system(s) are running the
latest BIOS and that they're on the same
motherboard (ENPC).
Before I upgraded to the Plextor(s), I was
running an HP 8x at work and a Ricoh 6x at
home. With the HP, I'd get about 7X rip speed,
while with the Ricoh, I'd still only get 3x, although
the track times would show up correctly.
Any help would greatly be appreciated.

burning question
I'm a begginer with Cubasis. When I try to burn a CD with Ce Quadrat Win on CD it always comes up with "the 1st track must be at least 4 seconds long". What am I doing wrong. I mixdown then export file as a wav file.
Please help.

im using ce quadrat........ the cd's read, but when time to burn it tells me to insert destination cd, when there is already one in there.

I'm in search of a Digital 8 Track which I can control from my PC (Faders and EQ etc) and which will allow me to trasfer/download the info to my PC so I can edit and arranage it on my PC. Does anything like this exist at this type of size (8 Track) ????

VS880 would do it...
Hello,
I have a VS880 sync'd up to my Mac G4 which is most reliable. You can get software for you Windows machine that will run almost all the functions of the VS using MMC/MTC. I can't remember what it's called but it's made by a australian company. You can find out about it from Roland themselves via a telephone call (that's what I did!).

Voice Extraction
Is there a program or method out there for the Windows 95/98 platform that can remove everything but the vocals or voice frequencies in a wav? It's helpful when wanting to sample only the vocal tracks that are mixed with a hard bassline or breakbeat.
