records

is there anyway to transfer music from albums to a CD? I have a VCR dubbing cable and wondered if I could use this with the 2 audio connectors at each end to connect from the stereo to the computer to do this.

Re: records

All you need to do is plug the cable into an aux out or tape out on your stereo and then plug it into the line in on your soundcard
Try <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/LPRecorder/"> LP Recorder </a>

MP3 directly to MPEG Layer 3 .wav?

Is there a program listed anywhere on here or anywhere else that you can use to decode a .MP3 file into a MPEG Layer 3 .wav file? I've found MANY MANY MANY programs that decode MP3 to PCM .wav but then I have to convert the PCM to MPEG Layer 3. I want a program that I can use to decode an MP3 to anMPEG Layer 3 .wav file(preferrably to a bitrate I specify). There HAS to be one out there somewhere.....Any direction on where I can find one? Email me with the subject line reading "MP3 to MPEG Layer 3 .wav program" or something similar because I will delete it if it says "No Subject" or anything that might look unfamiliar. (avoiding temptation ha ha ha) Thanks in advance.

Re: MP3 directly to MPEG Layer 3 .wav?

: Is there a program listed anywhere on here or anywhere else that you can use to decode a .MP3 file into a MPEG Layer 3 .wav file?

An MP3 file <b>is</b> an MPEG1 Audio Layer 3 file.

I think what you mean is you want to convert MP3 to
the MPEG2 format - which is vastly superior to MPEG1.

Try asking the people at <a href="http://www.cooledit.com">Cool Edit</a> - when they will
include MPEG2 in Cool Edit - it can already cope with
most WAV codecs including MPEG1 Layer 3.

Alf.

I think you might be confooZed

1. AN MP3 is MPeg 1 Layer 3.
2. A wav file can not be layer 3, as they are uncompressed. It can be compressed to MP2 (mpeg 1 layer 2) or mp3 (mpeg1 layer 3) or many other formats.
3. PCM is, in essence a wav file.

Hope this helps, if not, make a new post, and we'll try to help further

TURN $6 INTO $6,000

[The body of this post has been lost]

Re: TURN $6 INTO $6,000

Anyone that read that may be taken in. In reality the system does work but only for certain people through the list. At this stage your likely to end up out of pocket so don't be taken in. I've done it in my youth and ended up out of pocket. My friends have tried it too and got nothing. The people perpetrating it will make the money, not you. You have been warned!

I am new to creating music cd's and the software that came with my computer is Easy CD Creator version 3.5c. With this software it is still necessary to convert mp3 to wave right? If so, I can use freeware to do this correct or should I buy another software for the conversion? THANKS!!

Winamp, it's freee!!

www.winamp.com

It's an MP3 player, which has a built in wav convertor. on the website, it has detailed instructions on how to do the conversion process.

And, best of all!! It's free!!!!!!!!!!

mp3 download- FILE TYPE- conversion- on mac

Hello from Toronto !
I found a site where mp3 files are stored, for download.
BUT, their file tag has been changed to suggest they are text files,
a disguise used to avoid storage fees.
MY PROBLEM = Mac computer reads them as text files, and refuses to let me open
them. I cannot rewrite their title __tag.
Apparently Apple OS, when downloading a text file, IMPOSES the text tag and it stays indelible.

I probably am not correct, but this is my intrerpretation.
Does anybody know how to defeat the Mac OS text tag imposition ?
thanx

Re: mp3 download- FILE TYPE- conversion- on mac

Hello from Alberta!

I'm not a Macster, but if you put your MP3's into your MP3 palyer, they should still play finely.
If you can open a playlist, and drop them in there, then it should work. or else, when downloading, click so you can save as (instead of regular clicking) and save as, and change it to MP3 type (using the MP3 extension, instead of the text extension.

Hope this helps

Toast problems on Macintosh

Hello from Toronto , and,
" HELP "
aDAPTEC + aPPLE cO. have been unable to help me.
Problem = My Powermac 8100/ 110 mhz freezes each time Toast Deluxe 4. begins
to write a cdr.
I will try to be concise.
When I drop a folder ( to be copied) onto the window, the software scans the contents, then fills its' cache. Normal, so far.
BUT THEN the oddness begins.
The writing procedure should begin now, instead, the progress bar,FILLED UP from the cache loading sequence, remains full ! It should visually empty, and begin to fill during the writing process.
NO DICE ! It remains visually filled, and the spinning wheel, which indicates the writing process is
underway, it spins and spins and will remain spinning for hours.
The cdr remains unwritten.

NOTHING IN THE TECH FAQS approach this phenomena. Tech help at both companies have been unable
to sort it out, but they reluctantly agree that the computers' 110 mhz may be a tad slow to run the
software reliably. Some engineers deny this, especially at Apple.

Does anyone recognize this odd problem?
Is there another software I can use for writing cdrs on my mac ?
Any advice or feedback will be very appreciated. I am not technically creative and none of
my friends have computers. I am a beginner at downloading mp3 files, and I hope someone
might assist me to get this software happening.
regards,
Jim Brunswick

I agree...

It does sound like a SCSI problem to me as well. I assume that the device is recognised by the software? Adaptech also have Direct CD and Easy CD creator. It might be worth trying to get hold of a copy of these and see if they suffer the same problem.

Check you CDwriters ID number and check that it comes up in the 'Apple System Profiler' as a SCSI device. I sympathise with your problem, I hope you get it sorted.

Regards

Steve...

Re: Toast problems on Macintosh

Sounds like a scsi problem to me. Did any of the tech support people have you move around your burner in the chain? Or have you tried to put an active termenator on the second slot to end the chain? Scusi Voodoo I think.

I can't open my download...

I've just downloaded AudioSuite, but when I try to open it, my computer asks me to choose the program I want to use to open this file. I think the problem is that what I've downloaded is in zip format, and I don't know how to change that. I don't have a zip drive, but there must be some way to open it.

Re: I can't open my download...

A zip drive and a zip file are two different things, really.
If you get winzip ( www.winzip.com) you should be able to un-compress it without a hitch.
all winzip does is compress files so tehy take up less space

What are your computer specs? it could be not fast enough, or your sound drivers are in use, or they're "broken"

Music Styles for Roland E-66

[The body of this post has been reconstituted from replies so it may differ from what was originally written.]

A friend of mine asked me to post the following question:
A have a Roland E-66 keyboard and all diskettes from Roland with Music Styles. Are there other styles I can use? I'm not looking for songs, just the background styles, drums ...

Re: Music Styles for Roland E-66

I don't know a LOT about this, but my guess would be if it is possible for users to author them then there is likely a place on the Internet where you can trade with other users.

The free version of n-Track only limits the tracks you
can use fx on and it limits the number of plug-ins you
can use similtaneously - these limitations are removed
if you buy the full version.

You don't really want to save your effects in the
actual wave file, it's always best just to record
clean tracks so you have more options later during
mix down.

If you really want to apply effects permenantly to a
track then use a wave editor like <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Cool_Edit_2k/">Cool Edit 2000</a>
to open the individual track's .wav file and apply
effects from Cool Edit and save them - then when you
open the track back up in n-Track the effects will
already be there.

I was reading the directions on how to change mp3 to wave and it says to choose a file to send it to but what file do i dend it to.

Re: mp3 to wave

: I was reading the directions on how to change mp3 to wave and it says to choose a file to send it to but what file do i dend it to.

Just make a file folder in the place you want to save it..

Like Drive C:\Music\MP3's

and save in there.

Hope this helps

Re: mp3 to wave

It doesn't matter to the computer what file it is in, it only matters for you to know where that file is. a usual place would be c:\temp or c:\my documents
Once they are tehre, you can do with them as you need

looking for how to hook 4track to pc

any one know how and what i need to record on fostex fd-4 and then(put into pc and mixdown on pc)what programs do i need and how do i patch fostex to pc (couplings?) thanks for your time

Sync and Audio inputs

Hi,

I don't know the fostex well at all but I do know that it has Midi in/out and sp/dif or RCA audio connections.

It seems a shame not to use the SP/DIF if it's there, do you have a soundcard with SP/DIF? Either way, you should connect a Midi lead from the output of the computer to the Midi input on the Fostex. This will be beneficial if you have a sequencer program on the PC that will allow transmitting of MTC (midi time code). Make the sequencer transmit MTC and then select the fostex to be the MTC slave, (check the manual) this means that you can press start on the sequencer and the fostex will play along in time as the MTC slave. Simply pressing record on the sequencer will therefore allow transmitting of the audio in time, meaning that you could reproduce all the individual tracks onto the computer already in time with themselves. Does that make sense?

You could of course just connect RCA audio out from the Fostex and record the stereo mix into the minijack input on the computer and record that to a .wav file using any recording application. It just seems a shame not to do what I suggested in the last paragraph seeing you have most or all of the hardware.

Cheers

Steve...

scan notation and print tablature

would anyone be aware of software which would allow me to scan guitar music in standard natation and print it tablature thanks

Re: scan notation and print tablature

: would anyone be aware of software which would allow me to scan guitar music in standard natation and print it tablature thanks

I'm not sure if it exists, but even if it did, I doubt it would have the ability to map it to the right frets correctly, unless you are into playing all the parts in one position. The best way, is get some tab paper and do it manually, so you play it the way that is most comfortable for you. Beanhead out.

I agree with you - because original sheet music doesn't
contain some of the information in TAB the conversions
won't neccessarily be all that good.

However the process can be done...

Use <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/SharpEye/">Sharp Eye Music Reader</a> to convert the sheet music
into midi then use <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/COMP-G-TAB/">COMP-G-TAB</a> to turn the midi into

my sound card has 1 stereo in and 2 out
for stereo or mono these are small head phone jacks.. Go to a Radio shack and get a converted cable with one end stereo head phone jack leading to 2 single left and right aux audio jacks...
the single end goes to your output on the sound card and the two aux ends go to the input of the tape deck or aux in on your stereo put your stereo on aux press record and you will be making tapes.

i thought it would be something like that because i did the same thing when i copied stuff from my four track tape recorder to my hi-fi.

thanks though. not enough people say thank you on this page and that is shitty (pardon my french).

people get into quandries and are really relieved when they are helped out, so they should say thank you.

anyway, i wanted to say that too!
