midi not playing properly

I have Midisoft Worship Studio, but when I ask it to play a tune, it will only play 3 1/2 bars then freeze the programme. The only way I can get it to work again is to close the whole programme down and restart it. My PC works on Win 2000. The programme from the same CD could not be made to malfunctiomn on 3 other computers. So it must be something about my PC, but it plays the Logos/ Steve Green Midihymnal perfectly.
Midifiles from the net go into Midisoft WS and also do not play properly.
What can I do to fix this? please

Try uninstalling and re-installing your drivers for your soundcard. I had a similar problem playing MIDI files in Winamp, and reinstalling the drivers did the trick. Beanhead out.

Is it possible to trigger samples fr. midi in Cubase

I was wondering if it is possible, and what software I would need so I can trigger drum sounds from a midi file in Cubase on a Mac. Or what options do I have have so I can try different drum sounds.

Weird Clicks

Can anyone give help me. I'm running cubase 4.1 on a G3 400mhz bronze laptop (scsi Version).. and VX pocket soundcard.I get real problems with little digital clicks on all edit points, the beginning and end of blocks of audio and at the start of the song if it start on bar 1. This is even when all the audio is 'snipped at 0'. It's driving me crazy.... I was wondering if it could be because I'm using the internal HD for all the audio, it's getting pretty full and the problem seems to be getting worse....
any advice would be greatly appreciated

print programs?

Can anyone please tell if there is a program where I can drag notes onto a staff to create my own print music without using midifiles?

Re: print programs?

: Can anyone please tell if there is a program where I can drag notes onto a staff to create my own print music without using midifiles?

Music Publishern is a publishing only program: it it does not use midi files, you enter all the music from the computer keyboard (faster than mouse!) or by scanning in.

For further details go to www.muspub.com where you can download the evaluation copy. Or email me if you wish.

Price is $120 or 80 pounds.

This Forum Sucks......

I recently posted a question here....And when I come back to check the answers: guess what...

No Replies....

Looking at the other questions, it seems that this is quite common:

The users here should take a hint from Apple user forums - where you get almost instantanious replies.....

Isn't there any community feel between Musicians....?

My 2 cents

vst

please, in the simplest way possible, explain what vst stands for and what i need to be able to use vst plugins like mysteron, for example.

Re: vst

VST stands for "Virtual Studio Technology" which is a name for Steinbergs Cubase multitrack application for Windows and Macintosh. It's an Audio and Midi recording solution. VST pluggins' are somewhat of a standard now as insertable effects.

If you have the Cubase program, or any other program that supports the use of VST pluggins i.e. Spark, Logic Audio etc... then you can use them on Audio tracks. I'm not sure if the minimum specified version of Logic or Cubase will run the VST pluggins so you might have to spend a little more in the larger versions of the programs. The top flight Logic Audio in England costs around £550 and Cubase a little less.

Hope i've been helpful!

So, if you could have any mixer you wanted, what would you pick? and why?

Everytime I try to connect, I get an server error: invalid password message. Is your application in some way restrictive? What would constitute a valid password? DJ software

Is there any software out there that will let play a cd and cut the singing out of a song..if so please let me know.

Re: DJ software

Yes and no...
A karaoke plugin will remove vocals, however, not very well.
I reccomend sampling a short part of the song, and looping it.

I'd like to find out if anyone out there is using Recycle on an imac....

There's no Scsi, so you'd have to use a Usb>Scsi adapter -

Wonder if this works ?

Newbie

Hi all .... hope you can help.

I am about to start making PC music and am therefore investigating the different packages that are available and more importantly suitable.

I want to purchase a good entry level system (or create it myself) which will allow me to upgrade without having to discard hardware or software at a rate of knots everytime I want to improve facilties and or performance.

Initially I want facility to :
- Use a PC preferably running windows NT as it's OS.
- Create pure software music through sequencers, samplers, virtual instruments etc...
- Interface to live instruments as well as the software ones to create tracks on my PC which I can enhance through software mixers and effects

This leads me to many questions ....
- What spec PC
- What main software component ... I think I probably want to start with Cubasis VST .. but does this allow upgrade to Cubase and does it support VST 2.0 and the big one for me is what does Cubase have that Cubasis doesn't? i.e. should I go straight to Cubase ?
- I need a midi keyboard - which one?
- What quality CD R/W do I need for good results for the kind of stuff I am initially doing.
- What speakers would suit a bedroom type studio?
- The million dollar question .. which soundcard is the one for me. I have read that Creative SoundBlaster Live! Platinum is excellent (for the price) but can't find any latency figures for it! .. which leads me to .. what is an acceptable latency figure for recording from a Midi keyboard whilst playing back the track such that there is no discernable time lapse .. which I guess I will be doing a lot of. How does the Yamaha SW 1000XG and what other cards should I be looking at which fit this kind of price bracket
- What plugins would I need to start with ... a sampler? a drum machine ?

If you could give me some information or guidelines on what I might need, how much it would cost etc.. I would be eternally gratefull

Dave

Fruityloops on a Mac using a PC emulator?

Hey,
I'm new to the Mac music scene, and I sorely miss my PC with its copy of FruityLoops. Has anybody ever tried running FruityLoops on a Mac using some sort of PC emulator? I was thinking of buying a copy of Virtual PC, but I'd like to know if it is up to the challenge. I want to try to get Fruity Loops running on my G3 powerbook.

I'd apprecaiate it if anybody had any advice on the matter,

Thanx.

Who likes bass?well so do i

I need bass! Big booming, thundering bass! I have RubberDuck and its good fer like f*kked up bubbling, screaming, pycho-spasmatic sounds, but I need BASS first and then comes the pycho-babble of squelches an soundz like RD can produce. I really dont think there is a good bass app, but thats why ya'll got this here forum-for doubting an frustrated ejs like myself, right-............-----------........------....-..-.-.-

JarJar releated to bass question

RUBBERDUCK WONT REALLY RUN WELL ON MY MACHINE, SO iANY SUGGESTIONS ON A NEW PROG?

Re: Who likes bass?well so do i

: I need bass! Big booming, thundering bass!

It is very well possible to create deep basses
with apps like Rubber Duck and TS-404. There's
just a couple of things you need to keep in mind
while tweaking knobs and sliders: don't use too
much resonance. This adds the bubbly squelchy
sound you are talking about. Also, make sure
your signal doesn't distort or overdrive. This
too "troubles" the bass sound and adds high
overtones. And keep the cutoff low and the
env-modulation relatively flat...

Good luck.

iMac sampling/sequencing/editing software

Which iMac package is good for editing sound samples and composing music using only digital samples (I don’t have any MIDI devices). I was thinking of Opcode’s Studio Vision Pro – any comments? Also, given a good package, where does one get good audio samples?

Many thanks
Peter.

Re: iMac sampling/sequencing/editing software

Isn't Opcode out of business?

Re: iMac sampling/sequencing/editing software

Doesn't look like it. Check out their website: www.opcode.com

Re: iMac sampling/sequencing/editing software

Opcode did infact go bankrupt although I am informed that the main Opcode bloke is now working for Apple computers which hopefully means that OSX will have some midi implementation from the experts!

Don't fret though. The Macintosh is still the Pro choice for music making and therefore comes with many different Audio and Midi packages. I use Logic audio on the Macintosh which is a favourite of many users. It will allow you to do all sorts of things with Audio and Midi but may take some learning. You may want to opt for Cubase though which is equally popular. Both companies top shelf programs will cost you hundreds of £££ although they both do budget versions. You can try a demo version of Cubase and other's including shareware on this site. Try the link at the bottom of this page.

how to go from naptser files to a CD

I just got broadband and have been downloading music on Naptster
like crazy, I've found tunes I thought I'd never hear again. Now I'v
got to buy a burner( I was told HP was good) and get some soft ware
to convert mp3? to whatever. I'm not sure if all the files on
Nap. are mp3 or just some of them. I just want to get a library
of all the great music I'm finding, I'm a complete idiot
about this. Will some one take the time and explain to me
what I need. I heard one mp3 song that I downloaded in 2min
will take 30 to burn!!! this will never do, by the time
I've got all the tunes burned I have, I'd be to old to hear them.
Hepl!!!

Re: how to go from naptser files to a CD

You could always just buy the cd's and stop stealing others hard earned work...Thats an option. But then again I'm sure you love working for nothing.

Re: how to go from naptser files to a CD

: You could always just buy the cd's and stop stealing others hard earned work...Thats an option. But then again I'm sure you love working for nothing.

i have searched high and low for "legitimate" copies of some very obscure music that was once in my collection. things fall out of print. i can't find them anywhere but napster. i'll get them however i can.

Re: how to go from naptser files to a CD

Hey, "Napster Hater" 's got a point:!

First, you need a CD Burner....
http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/win95/CD_BURNERS/
Is part of this site, and I would recommend Feurio CD Burner... (Can be found at that site)
Now,
Napster now deals with MP3 and WMA files...
CD's can only be burned from WAVE files... so you've got to transform them...
One program that deals with all four of them is Shuffler Music Converter...which is free, and can be found at " www.illustrate.org "
you have to download the patch too to convert to or from WMA files....
With this program, you can mix and match, convert any of those three, to any other of those three (if you know what I'm saying)
If you still don't get it,
feel free to email me... mystical_ice@tropicalstorm.com
and i'd go through it step by step!
See you,
:)

Annoying Pop Window

Hey, boys, I used to have your page as Home Page, but since you introduce

: Hey, boys, I used to have your page as Home Page, but since you introduce

Hello,

I must say that I agree with you on pop-ups. I have always
been personally opposed to them and often find them annoying.

For a couple of years some of the staff here wanted to introduce
them but I always stopped them - after all I am the boss and I
can do things like that.

However we recently learned that even though we have sign up
forms for the newsletter plastered all over Shareware Music
Machine many people weren't looking at them and were missing
out on the opportunity to get the free newsletter which lists
the latest software releases every week.

My policy of not allowing a pop-up window was changed once
we were presented with irrefutable evidence that it would
give thousands of musicians the opportunity to sign up who
weren't already aware they could.

Since the pop-up window was installed a few weeks ago thousands
of extra musicians *have* signed up - proving me wrong.

I am still opposed to them but the facts are that thousands of
people are very happy with them, and as much of a control freak
as I am the bottom line is that thousands of opposing opinions
are more important than mine.

I should also point out that we introduced them in a reasonably
friendly way using cookies so that the window will only pop up
once per visit provided you have cookies turned on and that you
are receiving your pages from our server rather than a cache.

Please let me know if you have any alternative suggestions, I'll
jump at the opportunity to try something else.

Cheers,
Jason Horton.

Music Ace

To anyone searching for 'Music Ace'

I searched the web for 'Music Ace' without sucess but have managed to find a book called 'How to Read Music - Reading music made simple' which includes a Tutorial CD - by Terry Burrows published by Carlton Books Limited 1999 for Colour Library Direct. I purchased a copy at a Publishers Book Clearing Store.
