The programs you have listed are all well, but for use with capture cards only..
Is there no software that can record/capture/rip video streams from the web without a capture card?

Go to download.com and search for a program called CamStudio. It's a free desktop recorder. Basically it will record whatever is on your monitor (with sound) and you can specify the area of the screen to record.

CUBASIS HELP

Hi,

Problem is that Cubasis is recognizing my mic input but not my line-in input. I thought I had the problem licked a while ago when I was messing with the ASIO (or whatever it's called) and it worked (line-in only).

Now I've reinstalled and I have no idea what to change in order for my line in to be recognized. There are no soundcard profiles in that ASIO set up.

Please help...I'm going quite mad....

Just one problem : It's in .tts (terratec)and desperatly want it in sf2 (creative)...

FYI: .CDA files are only found on an audio CD. It is the file format for an audio CD track.

I am in the process of buying a computer. I want to learn how to download mp3's and burn cd's. Is there a website that can give me some info on what I should get in a computer and how I go about this process. Something easy to understand. I would appreciate any help. thankyou.

How can I download mp3's onto a cd-rw. Also If I buy a portable mp3 player. Is there some sort of connection or card that I can hook up into my computer and download the mp3 without the hassle of using a cd rom or using internet connection? In General can you just tell if there is anyway that I can get mp3's without the use of a cd rom? Can I download right onto the portable mp3 player and then listen to the track(s) from there? The last thing I want to know is where I would find such a player, equipment, card ect.?

If you must have a card can you tell me what type of card is BEST and what I would need to play it on.

Its really quite easy. If you look on this site there are free cd burning and mp3 playing software applications. The actual act of downloading is easy. The software, thats also easy usually.

Midi help...

I have been using fruity loops 2.5 as a step sequencer for my 505 and my MS-2000. However, when I assign one patch to an instrument in fruity loops, the patch changes for all of them. My friend swears that via a MIDI option I should be able to assign multiple channels to each synth and hence overcome this problem. How, or is my friend full of it?

Dumb Kid, Doubtlessly Trivial Problem

My setup is frustrating the hell out of me.
I've been trying for MONTHS now to get my computer syncronized with my drum machine (Korg electribes rythym production sampler) but have had only partial results. All I want to do is to set it up so that when I push play on my computer sequencer, my drum machine will also begin to play back. Recently I've tried it with both Massiva X (freeware midi/audio sequencer) and Quartz Audio Master freeware and my general results have been: No drum machine playback when I push play on the computer, but a second after I push "stop", playback begins, but usually strangely (such as playing the wrong pattern or leaving out a few parts).

Anyways, does anyone know how I can fix this or what I'm doing wrong?

My setup (in case it helps) is an old 133 computer with 40 megs of ram, a diamond Sonic Impact s90 soundcard (I've also tried it on the computers built in soundcard with the same results), a cable that turns the soundcards joystick port into midi ins and outs, and the drum machine mentioned before.

I'd really appreciate ANY help or ideas.

Okay here's the thing. You can't convert midi to audio. Midi is just one's & zero's. On it's own it doesn't produce any sound at all. Basically all it does is tell your instrument, sound module, keyboard etc. what notes etc. need to be played (like a player piano's roll of paper tells the piano what keys need to be played). Midi is just like that roll of paper, the conductor if you will. You have to record the sound that comes out of your keyboard, etc. just like you would if you were playing a guitar or any other sound. The advantage of midi is that it can be easily edited with acurate precision. But if you are playing a virtual synth through Cubasis you need only select File, then export to audio and it will mix it automatically. This only happens because Cubasis does all the work for you. Otherwise you need to record the sound that comes out of the instrument itself, using it's audio out's and record it into your computer using some kind of audio cable. I'm not a great communicator so this may seem a little more confusing that it is but if you still can't figure out how to record the sound from the instrument your midi messages are playing then send me an e-mail. Also let me know what your midi information is playing (keyboard, virtual synth, sound card's sound font's etc.) and what kind of sound card you have.

I've got a 266mhz AMD K6 processor with 128Mbytes for the RAM. I use cakewalk, cubase or fruty loops as audio and midi sequencer.My soundcard is a soundblaster live 1024. The problem seems to come from Midi. When playing, recording or transmiting midi, the music always slows down suddenly and randomly.I checked the buffers and everything but the cpu don't seems to be overloaded. Please someone give me a solution. Thankx. Sorry for my english cos' I'm french.

I too am having a similar problem and have a soundblaster live. I'm using cakewalk pro audio 8 and gigasampler. So far I've sequenced one track triggering the gigasampler, and recorded it as a wav. I then import the wav to cakewalk and it plays fine. But when I go to work on the next midi track, cakewalk jams up.

I was told by a guy from Guitar Center that this is because the SB live isn't a multi client card (mutlit client means more than one application can use the soundcard at once)

you need more RAM. get some cheap at a computer show, 256k is great. try to get PC600 RAMBUS RAM, it's the fastest

Hi -

I'm looking for an MP3 player I can plce on a CD-R with a ton of MP-3's. I would then 'close' the CD-R (making it readable in any other CD drive) and when I run the player, it would play from the CD-Rom (not have to be installed on the hard drive). The best case scenario is that the player would play randomly. Requiring a playlist would be no problem, since I could make it before I close the CD.

why can't you just do it on a CD recording software? burn whatever MP3s you want with your favourite software (easy CD creator and nero burning ROM are among the most popular ones). if you want to run your CD everywhere (windows, DOS, mac, UNIX, OS/2), the easiest way would be using level 1 ISO-9660 file system (8.3 filename format, yikes). otherwise, make a "hybrid" disc that contains both ISO-9660 (PC) and HFS (mac) file systems. there's a program called "mkhybrid" that can include Joliet (windows), rock ridge (UNIX) and HFS on one disc too. hope this helps.
