Being Succesful in the music business requires more than talent. Trying to find someone to "DISCOVER" you is about like sitting around waiting to get struck by lightning. If you want to be a proffesional singer you need two things. . 1. A PA system with microphones 2. A way to record what you do and make demoes. If you have those two things you'll way ahead of the thousands of others trying to make it. Best of Luck

You don't need a p.a but you do need to post something in the way of a demo to the internet so that you've got something to back up a claim to amazing talent. I need a great demo singer right now- the big star package involves a great deal more than a fantastic voice- unfortunately. Get on Mp3 and then you can email your demo wherever you choose- good luck. ej

help cakewalk pro audio 9

Can you tell me how I can record voice on one of the tracks, if not tell me a way i can do that even if i have to get another software.

Re: help cakewalk pro audio 9

On the Port section, select your wave part of your soundcard (don't select the one with the 'note' instead select the one with th wavy line, like a heart pulse line on a medical equipment thingy).

Now, you can arm that track and hit record. Take note of your Recording properties on the Volume control part of your Windows. Make sure you have Mic selected and that the Mic power is checked on (if it's a regular mic) or off (if you have a mic mixer hooked up to your soundcard).

Win2k issue

I upgraded to Windows 2000 for more stability. I use the M-Audio Delta 1010 card, Cubase and Vegas. Yet when I go to choose my inputs, only one stereo channel is shown. M-Audio says it's the software. Great. The only way you can take Win2000 off is by erasing the drive. Thank God and Maxtor for external drives.

Windows 2K IS the Y2K bug. Your audio is fine.

Hmmm. I am running Windows 98 with an M-Audio
Delta Dio 2496. I had a similar problem:

everytime I ran either Master Unit or Cubasis AV,
I ended up with one muted channel. Sometimes it would
also happen if I ran some other program that used
Avance'97 or whatever.

I ended up fixing the problem by:

Turning off all of the drivers and stuff
that I don't need from the Control Panels, System.

I had much better luck when I turned off all of the sound related
stuff not from M-Audio. The CD_R Drive I left alone, but the mixers
and sound drivers for recording and playback I got rid of.

I made sure that they weren't mapped through, either, if I needed
to leave them in.

You'll find that good programs don't have this conflict.
For me, the only audio programs that cause it are mainly
Cubasis, and Master Unit, both from Steinberg, even on the
same CD.

However, in Cubasis, I fixed the problem by setting
the system preferences for the Sound Driver to ASIO Multimedia Driver
instead of the M-Audio Driver. I also had to be sure to test and configure
the ASIO DirectSound Setup, and the ASIO Multimedia Setup.

You'll have to search for these carefully in you system, they aren't officially
named that as files. It's DSSETUP.EXE and WPSETUP.EXE on my system.

OK. Those will take some fiddling with, perhaps, but it's good
to learn how, cause you'll need to know how they
work when you need to change them for other programs or to stop getting
sound glitches in recordings from bad buffers.

Definately, be sure to keep checking your M-Audio
control panel, and setting it to what you know you
can use. Save a couple of dependable presets in the
M-Audio control panel, cause it's much more reliable than
the Windows bullshit.

Be aware that some programs only work with the Windows bullshit
programs and drivers. That's THEIR OWN DAMN fault!!!!!!!

The best programs with the most features can always use
other sound drivers, and for sure aren't just stuck on
the whole Microsoft can of worms.

Some programs can even emmulate certain modes of drivers.
You made a good choice with the M-Audio card.
They have a good ASIO-compatibility, and very low
latency. However, I don't reccommend downloading
driver updates from them. I did that and it totally
muted out my audio system. I fixed it by reinstalling
the old drivers and deleting the new ones. I don't like
M-Audio's documentation, either, except for their printed
booklet which comes with the hardware.

Another thing I did to help cut out audio
problems was configuring my
system BIOS to remember to NOT assume that I had
certain sound functions available... That way, for example,
since I don't have MIDI, the System BIOS wouldn't
assume that I have MIDI and try to load up MIDI drivers.

I don't have MIDI devices, so I hate it when Windows tries to
ruin it's IRQ assignments to reconfigure for MIDI or game controllers!!!!

Windows does suck!!, I don't care what Bill Gates or any of his drones, say.
From everything I have read online, upgrading to anything after Windows 98
is the kiss of death for a pc user unless it's Linux.

P.S. - UNINSTALL MASTER UNIT IF YOU DONT NEED IT...IT INSTALLS W

I forgot to say. Anybody NOT using Master Unit
should immediately UN-install it if it's on your
system. It installs TONS and TONS of bullshit
into your system files which isn't necessary.
For example, it installs ALL of the drivers for
ALL CD-R drives, it seems. Even if you only
have ONE CD-R drive from ONE manufacturer like
MOST NORMAL HUMANS DO.

Master Unit was single-handedly most responsible for
cluttering up my system files with garbage.
Considering that it always chose the wrong display
resolution to the chagrin of my monitor, and tended
to randomly MUTE one channel, I got rid of it.

I sure do like WaveLab and Cubasis, but Master Unit
is a waste of time. There are hundreds of other
better CD authoring programs out there.

Why risk messing up your whole computer over this?

Rubber buttons for Korg Poly Six

Can enyone help me with rubber buttons to a Korg Poly Six Synth

Re: Rubber buttons for Korg Poly Six

do a keyword search for "Korg Poly" and maybe
add "spare parts" or "repairs"

If you are talking about the rubber buttons
which are used internally to trigger notes
from the plastic keys, I can tell you that
one way to fix them is to take out the rubber
piece from off of the printed circuit board. Use
Q tips to clean the contacts. Use clean lukewarm water
go gently clean the rubber part, including it's
little black dots (those are the electrical contacts).

After the rubber with contacts dries totally,
put it back onto the cleaned circuit board, exactly
as it was before, making sure that it's totally flush
with the board.

OK, now it's possible that the plastic keys aren't
properly touching the rubber section to press down
onto the electrical contacts. This was the case
with my old Poly Six.

What I did, was to buy about 72 pencils with erasers.
I took out each eraser from each pencil carefully with
needle-nose plyers until I had 61 pieces of rubber
for each of the 61 keys. Next, I carefully shoved
one eraser into each of the 61 plastic keys, where
they came into contact with the contact/rubber sheet.

It took some work, but it got rid of the faulty contacts
and the hard feeling keys. I did have to rip out
some of the felt from the inside, cause the felt
was too cushiony, and made it necessary to press the keys
down really hard.

However, once I got rid of the felt, with pliars,
and after I had in all of the pencil erasers, it worked
just fine. The rubber from the erasers was perfect for
focusing the key pressure down onto the electrical
contact beneath the rubber sheet.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, that's
ok. I'm the only person I know who has ever done this.

I would contact the Korg corporation for details on where
to order parts.

Recs. for Music Ripping, Editing and Mixing Software?

DOes anyone know of a program comprable to Feurio! for music editing and CD burning? Feurio! has all the features and ease of use I'm looking for, but won't work with my CD-writer. I'm looking to mix audio trqacks from a variety of CDs and some audio from a DVD onto one CD with a few minimal edits (fading in the middle of a song, etc.). Any help would be most appreciated.

I'm searching a "virtual amp", a program running in real time which can create effects like overdrive/distortion, chorus... just like a Digitech RP 10 or similar machines and includes an acceptable speaker simulation. When i just plug my guitar and effects into the PC clean sounds are ok, but as soon i switch on overdrive/distortion i only get sh**!

Switching Platforms

I grew up on Studio Vision so I have always used a Mac for music. Leaving Opcode behind presents me with a platform choice. I see many big names using Windows but am all to familiar with the rap that the Mac is the only platform for serious musicians. Any comments? Please refrain from the typical "Windows is useless" type of response. Clearly, many successful musicians use Windows so it can't be useless. I would be especially interested in anyone who switched from Studio Vision to E-Magic for Windows.

Thanks

Sending & Receiving Samples Soundforge & ASR10

I can't seem to figure out how to send and receive samples in soundforge. There's all kinds of information such as logical send/receive sample #, actual send/receive #. and if I click on configure there's even more information I can't make heads or tails of. any help would be much appreciated.

Re: Sending & Receiving Samples Soundforge & ASR10

What I would do, is first do some simple research
on MIDI Sample Dumps. Maybe just also search for
some programs on your style of computer that JUST
do that and nothing else. SoundForge isn't
really designed to be just a Sample Dumper, so maybe
less is more for you. I would also search for
a bulletin board for ASR-10 users.

By the way, downloading
samples through MIDI is VERY slow.

Maybe you should try to get rid of your ASR-10
and get the Ensoniq MSR. It can read and write
WAVE (.wav) files as long as they have simple,
DOS-style names. The MSR has a better song editing
section too.

Sure it's very very expensive, but you can also
get alot more work done on one. They have VERY
professional sound banks available.

I Can't open a program

Well!

I downloaded a program: the Audio Active production Studio 2.0

I installed it but it doesn't wants to run!!
I'm new in this...

I don't know what to do for make it works!!
Thanks

Re: I Can't open a program

The program must have placed an icon on your desktop, so double click it to run. If not on desktop its shortcut must be on your programs menu (start-programs-audio active...)Find the program and click. If it gives an error and doesn't want to run suply more info about what you did and what compute did.

if trying to get your software to work is really
driving you nuts, why don't you go to a good pawn
shop and start collecting used keyboards, drum machines,
mixers, recorders, and effects units.

Really, it's not so hard. And it can actually cost less
than your computer and time spent online.

It's what I used to do. I got a lot more music done
then too.

Yup, using the PC is good for certain things. But grabbing an old 4-track and a couple of mikes works pretty well. It's not like I'm trying to make sgt peppers is it? And there's something a bit lame about sitting behind a PC all weekend with ya audio editor. Man, just crank it up and blast the neighbours.

mp3 compression

Is there a way (software,etc...) to compress mp3 files to a size smaller then they already are - or does it all depend on the ripper?

(I ripped a song and downloaded the same song, the 1 i ripped was nearly 2x bigger in file size w/the same quality sound. Is it just a bad ripper, or is there something I can do to cut back the file sizez?)

midimadness

I'm very new with midi and computers. Please help me assugn midi channels to different musical instuments. I'm using Encore 4 and my MIDI SOURCE IS A kORG 13. I could not seem to match the staves in Encore with the midi channels and if I tried to record another instument in another channel it affects the previous channel's sound. HEEEELLPPP!

Alterative to Recycle

Does anybody know of annother software I can use to send wave files from my computer to my sampler? My copy of Recycle is corrupted and not registerd. I'v tried to use sound forge but I can't get it to work. If any one can help me figure out how to transfer samples in sound forge that would be just as good.

Re: Alterative to Recycle

Logic Gold bouncing problems

Need help bouncing midi to audio. I want to record my own CD's and need to get midi to a wav format.

Need help to isolate a sound.

Hi.
I was wondering if any one could help me. I want to isolate a single sound, eg a piano loop, from a song.
I use soundforge 4.5 and have 5 demo. playing with the grphic equaliser i can filter out some of the sounds but not with enough clarity to use in my own music.

I once had a program called Awave??? that allowed you to copy a section of music (before the piano came in) then remove that sound from another section (after the piano started). But it was poorish quality.

Is there any other program that let you do this or a method to do it in soundforge or cooledit 2000.

Thanks

Isolate the music, not the sound; then recreate the sound from t

I think what you should try is to isolate as much as
you can using your old technique. Save the results.

Then, get AmazingMIDI for PC to isolate the
musical notes and turn them into MIDI notes.

This way, you can save the information, edit it
to correct errors, and then save it as a standard
MIDI file. Many good keyboards and samplers and
programs read standard MIDI files. You could put
your MIDI file on a floppy disk and play it on a
whole bunch of keyboards and samplers until you
find one that sounds like what you want. You could
choose from thousands of different sounds too.

I would suggest trying some of the Ensoniq keyboards,
which have some great realistic samples.

Even if the keyboard can't read disks, you can
still send them MIDI from a computer or sequencer.

Give it a try. Even if it isn't totally successful,
I'll bet you get a lot of cool results from it.

There are other sound to MIDI converters, but
this is the best one I have found so far.

Re: I really want to become a singer!

Hi Shannon, I would be willing to help you out.

I went to college for sound engineering and learning
about the music industry. I don't sing, but my aunt
is a voice instructor at a college, and I know lots
of ways singers can get started. I compose instrumental
music in many styles. I play piano, also.

give me an email at godspawn@hushmail.com

my only question is,

are you sure you want to become a singer for YOU
or do you want to become a singer for your DAD ?

Re: I really want to become a singer!

SO YOU WANT TO BE A SINGER. TO BE HONEST AND I DONT KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE RESPONDED, BUT IT SOUNDS AS IF YOU HAVE MORE IDENTITY ISSUES TO DEAL WITH. YOU NEED TO ESTABLISH SELF WORTH BEFORE YOU ATTEMPT TO GET IN THIS BUSINESS. A MUSIC CAREER CAN BE VERY REWARDING, BUT IN THE BEGINING THERE ARE NO REWARDS AT ALL, THE ONLY REWARD YOU'LL RECIEVE IS THE JOY OF MUSIC. NO MONEY, NO FANS JUST YOU AND YOUR ART, THATS IF YOU CREATE. THE ABILITY TO CREATE IS IMPORTANT, IF YOU WANT TO BE SELF SUFFICIENT, AND ESTABLISH YOUR OWN IDENTITY. SO DONT THINK THAT JUST BECAUSE YOU START SINGING YOUR FATHER WILL HAVE A BETTER RELATIONSHIP. TO GET BACK TO YUR QUESTION, FIRST YOU HAVE TO HAVE TALENT AND ALOT OF LUCK. IF YOU WANT TO BE PRESENTED AS A SINGER, NOT A WRITER TO PRODUCER, YOU HAVE TO HAVE AND IMAGE. THAT MEANING YOU HAVE TO BE SEXY AS HELL. SEX SELL AND IF YOU'RE TRYING JUST TO BE THE PACKAGE THAT SELLS THATS #1. THEN YOU'LL HAVE TO BE IN A PART OF THE US (A MAJOR MARKET) SO THAT YOU CAN PRESENT YOUR "ASSETS". DOES IT SOUND LIKE YOU'LL BE PRESENTING YOUR SELF AS A PIECE OF MEAT, THEN YOUR EXCATLY RIGHT. SINGERS COME A DIME A DOZEN, SO WHAT WILL SET YOU APART? FIRST YOU HAVE TO WANT TO BE MORE THAN A SINGER, YOU HAVE TO DEVELOP WRITING, PRODUCTION AND MUSCIAN SKILLS. NOT THAT YOU HAVE TO BECOME A KEYBOARD PLAYER OR ANYTHING BUT IT HELPS. I WOULD SAY WHATS MORE IMPORTANT IS THAT YOU DEVELOP YOUR WRITTING SKILLS. IT SEEMS YOU HAVE ALOT OF THINGS TO SAY ABOUT YOUR LIFE, THINGS THAT WOULD BE A GOOD STARTING POINT FOR SONG THAT PEOPLE COULD CONNECT WITH. IF YOU'RE IN A MAJOR CITY TRY TO FIND A PRODUCER TO WORK WITH. GO TO LOCAL OPEN MICS, CHK NEIGHBORHOOR READERS WITH USUALLY ADVERTISE LOCAL ARTISTIC SHOWCASES, OR JUST TALK TO PEOPLE YOU KNOW FOR LEADS. WITH MY PRODUCTION STUDIO I OFTEN WORK WITH PEOPLE IN YOUR POSITION, I DO CHARGE A FEE, BUT IF THERE SONGS AND IDEAS ARE GOOD I'LL WORK WITH THEM FOR FREE, AND SHARE THE WRITTING AND PRODUCTION CREDITS. SO FORGET ABOUT TRYING TO MAKE YOUR FATHER PAY FOR HIS SINS. IF YOU LOVE MUSIC DEVELOP YOUR WRITTING SKILL,FOLLOW UP ON LEADS THAT WILL GIVE YOU FURTHER INSIGHT TO A MUSIC CAREER.BEST WISHES

SongSpy Warning

Since the trouble with Napster began, I have installed 17
different "napster" type programs looking for a good replacement.
If nothing else, I know about these mp3 sharing programs.
Much to my dismay after downloading and installing the
"new" version of songspy, I discovered that I needed to
un-check each folder that I did not want to share with
others. (Of course if you dont know about this then
your entire hard drive is open to the public) So after
spending 4 hours unchecking 30
thousand folders I could not even get it to connect..Ever.
I will take great pleasure in deleting this crap from
my hard drive. I will take even more pleasure in
spreading the word. Dont waste your time with this one.
Go with Aimster.

wma encoder

i was wondering if it is at all possible to encode mp3's
to wma 64kbs format with RioAudioManager...or if there
is an encoder out there that will encode mp3's to
