HELP WITH RECORDING FROM CASSETTE TO CD

we are using sound forge 4.0 to try and record from tape deck to cd. the recording meters are not working and we do not know how to get audio feed back. we also do not understand how to save a file. we do not understand the instructions. please help!

My easiest method is:

1. Get a walkman
2. Get a lead with 3.5mm jack plug on either end.
3. Plug one end in to walkman speaker socket, other to 'line-in' on sound card
4. Make sure you're recording source is 'line-in' (VERY IMPORTANT!)
5. In soundforge hit record (also click 'monitor' in record dialogue box)
6. Hit play on the walkman!
7. Once your audio is in soundforge, you can then put it on CD.
You can do similar with proper tape deck with 2 phono to one 3.5 mm jack lead

Hope this makes sense!

Piano-soundfonts

several pianos (even three 4MB-SFs), but they were
-excuse me- rubbish. A dsharp may sound bright, but an
e, which uses the next sample, sounds dull.
It can´t be so hard to create a good 4MB-piano in mono
and 22KHz. Bye!

:Hey, Uli: Unfortunately, rubbishy Piano sounds seem to be the PC Standard. But in case of emergency, I've done this: On one track choose the best GM Acoustic Grand Piano sound you can dig up. Record it. Copy this MIDI track to another track (keeping the first intact). On the second track, apply a decent GM Electric Piano 1 (usually GM patch 005), and pan both trax slightly opposite of one another. It aint perfect, but in a mix it doesn't sound nearly as bad as the best Piano patch you're going to find...

Check with some of the Mrg'ers of soundcards i.e. Creative Labs (who makes the AWE64 product). The most common patches you'll find will be listed under a GM (General MIDI) format. Good luck

I have soundblaster Live!. I do not get to record at 32K and 48K. Is there anyway to record audio at these sample rates? Only have the standard 8K,11K,22K,44.1K. Is there anything else to install eg codec?

you have to check the specs on your SB card. It may not record at 48k. You could also be running into timing issues with other devices set to 48k audio reading. everything in your set up should be set at the same sample rate.

Cuebase vst xtra sonds

Copying enhanced audio CD,s

I have just got a audio cd that will play in my computer, yet will not show up any music tracks. Its just shows up the enhanced bits, ie avi and shit like that.
Now I use Nero to burn and audiograbber to grab, yet neither will touch this cd, nero says its empty and audiograbber just crashes. ( very novel)

Can anybody help and tell me what the hell is going on.

As far as I know there are no 16Mb (if we´re talking GM or GS-banks) in sf2 format. However, Utopia is developing a 32 meg version that should be ready any day now. Have a look:

There are several groups of talented musicians/engineers that make quality soundfonts available for free on the web. I personally use the "unison.sf2" GM/soundfont, which is 28megs uncompressed. If you would like to get a free copy, visit http://www.personalcopy.com. Once you have your new soundfont, you may want to check out the useful sampling utility at http://www.buzzwood.com/miditest.htm
