Reading tabs is easy for example a tab that looks like this: G----------------|
D----------------|
A------0-------1-0------0-----|
E-0--3---0--3------0--3---3--0|
Means nothing is played on the D or G strings, and the numbers correspond to the fret on the Bass, starting from the head (with 0 = no fret being pressed) so for this you would staert by plucking the E string and pressing no fret, then Plucking the E-string while holding the string down on the 3rd fret. Then without letting the E-string ring, go to the A-string, and pluck it holding no fret, etc,... this is actually the intro for 'Smoke On the Water' by deep purple, so I hope this has helped.
