Propellerhead's most important release for this year, the eight iteration of their popular DAW software, is well underway, and have started shipping since the 30th of September.

With so many DAWs to choose from, Reason's main selling point has always been its streamlined workflow. It behaves more like actual hardware/instruments instead of a complicated software, which has made it the DAW of choice for musicians of various styles. However it looks like Propellerhead is not yet content with the performance of Reason 7 and have found more ways to improve the workflow, as introduced in the 8th version of the software.

The most notable improvement to the workflow is the ability to "Drag and Drop" virtually everything and everywhere, including the main interface and throughout the Reason Rack. As an example, you can create instruments by simply dragging a synth patch to the sequencer. You can load sound samples to the instrument pads in Kong and you can also create effects by simply dragging the effect patches to the rack. This removes the need to go to various menus just to load tracks, samples and effects.

Reason 8 introduced a variety of small improvements which include the ability to add notes by simply double-clicking, you can also delete notes by double-clicking on them. You can resize the notes from both edges and quickly duplicate notes with via a keyboard shortcut. These little improvements are expected to reduce production time and increase your musical productivity.

Propellerhead Product Marketing Manager Leo Nathorst-Böös said, "Around the world, musicians and producers use Reason because it's the most fun and inspiring music creation platform available. For Reason 8, we've taken everything people love about Reason and introduced a streamlined new user interface that makes it easier for new users to get started, and more fun for seasoned users to work faster."

Also introduced in Reason 8 are new amp and speaker models from Softube. These plug-ins are designed for recording bass and guitars, featuring modeled versions of classic amps and speakers combined into presets.

Reason 8 and Reason Essentials 8 are now available for Mac and Windows, along with the Reason 8 Upgrade option for users of the previous version. Reason 8 is priced at $449, while Reason Essentials is cheaper at $129, Reason 8 Upgrade is available for $129. For more information and other details, head over to Propellerhead.
