Computer Keyboard = Music Keyboard?

My computer is quite low-end and lacks inputs for an MIDI keyboard. However, I want my musical talent to be heard. I have only found once program so far that can turn your standard computer keyboard into a musical keyboard, certain keys representing certain notes. (I thought I invented the idea in fact, cause it's so rare. ^_^ )

Does anyone know where I can download this program, or purchase it for a low price? I would prefer to be able to at least try it out for free before deciding if I want it or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

burn mp3 direct to disc?

I visited this site:

http://www.cnewsome.net/kisscd/index.html

and was surprised to see that the site author said that he could burn so much music to a single disc. What software does this?
--Dave

Re: burn mp3 direct to disc?

Quite Simply: MP3 compression.

more in depth :)
If you get an MP3 encoder, you can take a song that's on a CD and compress it to aproxamitely 1 tenth the orginal size, and lose relatively little or no quality.. The downside is you can not play it on you home stereo's CD player, ot discman.. but you can get a LOT of music on a CD.. about 600+ minutes if it's ALL MP3 audio..
to get more info on encoders, visit the software section on this site, look up MP3 encoders/ rippers and check out www.mp3.com 's software section.

That cut up sample effect. how do YOU do it?

Hey I was just wondering how any of you do this. I have my ways, but it's really time consuming. Say you have a 1 measure sample playing (In my case usually funky/disco house). You know when you chop it up say on the quarters (completely cutting the volume in and out like switching between phono and line on a dj mixer in time with the beat) How do you do it? I can do it off my sampler (pain in the ass getting it right though) or draw volume levels in cakewalk on the quarters too, but this too is kind of a pain. Any suggestions. Right now it's either trial and error, or too time consuming.

alright, you can do it by setting the snap in cakewalk to whatever you want, then splitting the sample (audio) into 8/12/16 parts or whatever, then delete every other chunk of audio. or go into sound forge and try gapper/snipper to get this effect. hope this works

connecting reality to cakewalk

crossfader

Alrighty, here's my setup:
2 soundcards
one soundcard w/studio headphones
one soundcard w/big 'ol speakers
two instances of winamp, a lot of useless DJ software

how can I crossfade the two winamps between the headphones and speakers? all the software I can find just mutes stream "a" when it crossfades into stream "b", which is useless to a DJ unless he/she is god - is there any software/easy workaround to get the crossfader to fade between two soundcards while fading between two songs, a la a mixing table? Thanks in advance, Chris

Re: crossfader

I have a plugin for winamp, it works with two instances of Winamp.. as long as you are using seperate drivers for each instance (Directsound for one, wav out for the other) This should work, it fades between to two instances, and has automatic or manual fading. I think it's on the winamp site, or if you give me your E-mail address I can E-mail it to you. it's freeware, btw.

Trying to get started in the world of remix...

Hey all, I'm trying to get started in remixing music, just as a hobby if you will. The problem is, I have no real hardware, can't afford any, and there's not a whole lot of software that I seem to be finding. All I have is the noise in my head and kick ass ideas that I know would turn out awesome. If anyone knows of any software that I could use to work with, or even some Peak Plugins (That's the only software I have to work with right now, I'm on an iMAC 400mhz and a Win98 Box 600Mhz) The help would be greatly appricated. Thanks alot...

mp2 to .wav conversion

Could someone Please Help Me? I have decoders and encoders, and jukeboxes, and I have a BTC cdrw 4432 burner......

I'm trying to record an audio cd grom mp2 format audio but my source is 16bit 44.1Mhz MONO and my cdr only accepts 44.1Mhz Stereo... My diskscome out at double speed! How do I begin to fix this? 6/21/00

Re: mp2 to .wav conversion

You need to convert the MP2 to wav because CD burning software does not accept MP2 format for burning CD Audio.
( www.winamp.com ) get winamp it's free, (I'm sure you know) and you can can convert the MP2 file to wav. You may have to re-sample that, to 44.1Khz (not Mhz) and it has to be stereo.
You can use an audio editor such as cool eidt, or Soundforge, or Godlwave.

The problem is not your cd writer, it's the software, but it's not a "problem" simply the fact that for CD Audio, it must comply to the standards of 44.1 Khz Stereo.

Thanks AnalogX!

I just downloaded your mp3 search software-- and it works perfectly! I've been searching everywhere for the original American Pie song and couldn't find it. I found it in less than a minute with your program! Thanks again!

Re: Thanks AnalogX!

I just downloaded it too. It's definitely worth adding to your MP3-hunting arsenal. Easy to use and quick to download. It's not Napster or Gnuttela, but it does the job effectively.

cut a large wav into?

I have a large wav file I would like to be able to cut
into so I can burn it onto 2 cd's, because it is too
large to fit on one cd. How do I cut it up?

Re: cut a large wav into?

You can cut it in two in your audio editor. Then save it as two WAV files.
Make sure you use the same sample rate

Re: cut a large wav into?

If it will be burned as CD audio, then it has to be 44Khz Stereo. If it will be wav or MP3, and it's not high quality or it's speech, themn you can downsample it, to take less space..

MTC...

Are you using MTC (midi time code)? If so you might want to check the validation settings. I think you can set them to check every 2 frames etc. Check also that the MTC FPS (frames per second) are set the same for each machine. Sorry I can't be more help at this stage...

Yes I have one.I just got the sync card in yesterday.did you figure it out .Im trying to sync it with Cubase. If you have any info it would help me .
Thanks Ken

Re: Fostex and MMC

I know how it use to be done, but I can not get my head around it now!
On the Atari and first version of cubase, you selected the fostex driver to sync to, not MMC, the 8330 responds to midi notes not MMC sysex comands, as far as I can work out.

Have you managed to work it out, or have you had no joy?

Re: How 2 Remove Music, and leave just VOCALS

I want to remove the music, and leave the VOCALS from a track. I understand the "Center Channel Cut" in CoolEdit, but I want to do the opposite of that, and only KEEP the center channel, as this is typically where the vocals are. I prefer CoolEdit Pro, so I'm looking for either a plugin, or details on how to manipulate the settings to accomplish this for Centered Vocals.

just starting out

i am 18 yrs old, i wish to start putting together my own music, samples mostly, but i cannot find anyone to give me the advise i desparetly need,i am on a tight budget and wish to buy secound hand very soon but do not want to waste my money on something that will not do the job for me, i am a complete novice at the moment and would be extremly gratefull for any advice given

What we're doing is building a database of as many musicians as we can possibly find that are interested in getting paid for their downloads. Hey, I'm already signed, (with a small indie record company), but I know that these web promo sites are makin' a killing!!
Last week I read about MP3.com's biggest success story... This guy sold like a million downloads or something like that and MP3.com only paid him thirty-seven grand over a two year period!! That's bull!!
When we have enough members, we'll either cut a deal with someone like Liquid Audio or just enlist our own programmers to write something similar and set up our own domain. The key is in the numbers. If enough bands/artsists sign on we'll "corner the market" and the consumers will have to deal with us!! I'm just sick of the artists getting ripped off!! If you guys have a fan base, sign up and get some of them involved. With just a little bit of unity and effort we can do this!! Have you ever known a band/artist that didn't want to get paid?! There are like 150,000 bands on the web, right? Well if we can get just half of their names in the same place, guess what!! The planet will have to give it up!! Can ya dig it!! We really can change the way people get their Indie music on the web. I just came up with the idea for this last week. I've spent about four hours hittin' some real visable message boards and already I've got at least two or three sign ups every day. Imagine how fast this could happen if everyone that joined spent a couple hours a week workin' it!! All I'm askin' ya to do is be a little bit greedy. Beyond that, it's only fair!! I've spent alot of time, money, and made alot of sacrifices to get this far with my music, and so has every member in your band... Huh?!! Well, don't you feel like you've given enough away? Just sign up, spread the word a little and we'll get our dues, man!! You've got to admit... It sure sounds good!!

Thanx for inquiring. Your Brother in the Great Cosmic Jam,
The Vee

Does anybody know of a program that can start recording when there is audio present on the Input of a sound card?

re: noise reduction

Hi there,

If you want to get rid of 'noise', try the Audio Restoration section.
