How can I record streaming real audio to my hard drive?

Any ideas?

Re: How can I record streaming real audio to my hard drive?

Total Recorder should do the job.

Converting MP3 to CDA: Converted Tracks will not work on my hom

I have already converted my MP3 files to WAV files through Winamp, and even burned those tracks onto disc. When I create the CD through Adaptec it gives me the option of 'Closing' the session when finished, which I select. When viewed through My Computer they show the .cda extension, yet I cannot play this disk in any of my personal audio devices (home stereo, car stereo). If this is the correct format (CDA) can any one help me figure out what I am doing wrong? Thanks for any input.

Re: Converting MP3 to CDA: Converted Tracks will not work on my

I'm having the same problem using Adapted Easy CD Creator v3.5a

Streaming from a Server

I am trying to create a web page that will list songs that are available for listening to, I would like to store the songs in MP3 format and then when the user clicks the song title they can either download it or stream it. I am having trouble finding server side software that will allow the choice. Of course freeware would be best as this if for a church website.

Re: Streaming from a Server

If I were you I'd look at a free service such as the one offered by MP3.com. Otherwise, it may be a real strain on your server and/or account limits.

Easy Music Software

I am looking for a cheap easy music program that would allow me to scan music into and change or transpose the key and then print it out. I play the clarinet at our church and the worship songs we have can only be played by a flute and violin. We would like to be able to have the clarinets and trumpets join in the worship part and not just play the hymns. Any suggestion would be greatly appreicated.

Any advice on multitrack recording software?

Hi!

I'm thinking of purchasing multitrack recording software for the Windows platform, and my budget is somewhere between $40 and $130. The question is, what is the best software for the money. Can I "get by" with something like n-tracks ($39), or Cakewalk Guitar Tracks 2 ($49), or is it worth it to spend the money on something like Cool Edit 2000 with the studio plug-in ($98), or even Cakewalk Home Studio 9 ($129)? I would be grateful if anyone familiar with these programs could give me some feedback. My main interest is in recording tracks live, as opposed to MIDI, and I'm not so concerned at the moment about MP3 functionality. Feel free to respond or email me!

Thanks,

Yonatan

Re: Any advice on multitrack recording software?

Hello,

I'd opt for n-Track.
http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/n-Track_studio/.

Bearing in mind cost, functionality and your PC system resources - it's a quality product. Cool Edit 2000 Studio plug-in doesn't handle multiple live tracks simultaneously as far as I remember. I think Cakewalk has a tracks limitation. Those products are great in their own way - I'm a big fan of CE 2000 for instance - but I'd be nodding towards n-Tracks. Read the comments in the discussion forums and see if you like what others have to say.

How to record from stereo to pc

I require some detailed information on how to record from a home stereo to a Win98 pc. What is required in cabeling and software. I wan't to record from cassette's or lp's to the pc which will enable me to then burn to cd's.

Re: How to record from stereo to pc

Please send me this info...

Re: How to record from stereo to pc

Use an R.C.A. connector from your cassette OUT (or headphone jack) to your sound card IN.
Download GOLDWAVE (sharewrare)and record in, in realtime stereo.
Don't forget to set you line in volume levels.
If you want to have both of your sources plugged in at one time you will have to get a mixer - or at least an expander to switch between channels (4 channels about $20.)
Open your your burner program and load in your songs from GOLDWAVE.

Re: How to record from stereo to pc

To hook your computer to your pc you will need a RCA to mini jack which you connect to the tape or aux out of your stereo to the line-in on your PC.
Check out these programs

What is a sampler?

I hate to sound stupid, but I am entirely new to this. What is a "Sampler"? Like what is made by Akai, E-Mu, etc.? What are the uses for these? I have a Yamaha Clavinova and I record songs to MIDI files on disk. A studio told me I could bring my disk in and they could put my song into their computer and put professional sounds to it. Is this what they are using? I'm just a beginner and could use any help I can get. Sorry for such a long post. Thanks in advance! ~Tony

It's simple.

A sampler is a device that will store sound in it's memory and that's that. It can come in the form of a hardware device (preferable) or software. This allows you to then playback the samples (usually using a keyboard) and edit them, reverse them, play them at different speeds etc etc... What the studio will more than likely do is take you midi files, which are Note information only and have not sounds attached to them, and then attach sounds. If you played a piano part and saved it as a Midi file then it would be the information, when you played the notes relative to the tempo, how hard you hit them and how long you held them for etc... They could then send that Midi information to a sound device, either a synth or sampler, and your playing would be reproduced by that sound. You keyboard is a sampler in a respect as it more than likely has sampled sounds. The difference is is that those sounds were once sampled and burnt onto ROM (read only memory) and can't be replaced. A sampler would allow you to add more sounds yourself by recording them into the unit and then play with them

How do i get my Fruity Loops to become a MIDI sync slave to Cake

i'm probably just plain ignorant, but i'm not too sure about how MIDI sync works on Fruity Loops. Been trying to get it to work as a slave to CW8, but beyond configuring CW8 as master, nothing happens....Fruity doesnt wait for any MIDI signal.

HELP PLEASE!!!!!

I Need hep with CUBASE vst 3.7, please respond.

I'm kind of an idiot I guess, but I can't get cubase to play an imported wac in one track
while recording to another track. That's kind of the whole point of the program, so how do
I do it? I can play the song fine, but not record and hear it at the same time. If you can,
email or icq me at 27171137. Appreciate the help!

Just recently did this with easy CD creator & it works fine. Download a song from Napster (if something fails here, it is probably the place you are downloading from - pick another site. I usually go for the biggest file size, figuring this will be the best quality). I have a standard internet connection, so my downloads take awhile. Cable modem is much quicker. Once this is saved to your hard drive, you have to convert the file from MP3 to a wave file (you don't have to do this unless you want to listen to it on your home CD player or car CD - if you listen strictly on your computer, just burn the files in the original MP3 format, they take up much less space). I use a program called MP3 to WAVE converter, it works great. Once the file is converted, you can burn it to a CD. You'll want to burn more than 1 song on a CD - once you close the session it writes the table of contents for the CD and you can't write anything else to it.

I had much trouble copying CD's on my system. My brother in law does it all the time, but I always get small glitches. I found out that if I record the disc onto my hard drive as an image file first, then burn it to the CD from my hard drive everything is O.K. Don't know why I can't record on the fly (DVD - ROM drive to Burner)without errors but as long as the image file thing works, I'll do it that way.

It sounds as if you have a problem with your cd writer or somewhere else in the system. My computer used to crash when I was copying cds, but the problem vanished when I moved the cd writer to my girlfriend's computer. I don't know why it works now. I can help you no further.

Quite a vital concern

I have an analog 4-tracks Fostex recorder, and I was about to buy a digital multitrack one. However, I found your website and I am hesitating whether it is better to buy a new PC, plus the corresponding software and (maybe) I/O hardware. My instruments are a Yamaha PSR-520 keyboard (MIDI compatible), as well as an electric guitar.
Just 3 questions:
1. Is it possible to get the same kind of service from a PC-based studio than the one of a recorder console? 2. In that case, what software would you recommend to me?
3. Finally, how do you do to plug an electric guitar to the PC?

Thanx a lot,
Pedro.
