A Prob I'm Sure many of Us Have ;)

I've got quite a good mp3 collection now but the trouble is there is so much difference in quality and especially volume of songs. Is there any way to equalise ALL of my mp3s quickly to the same volume?

Any help greatly appreciated!

Lev

Re: A Prob I'm Sure many of Us Have ;)

Hello

You will need to normalize your MP3s. Try <a href="http://www.mp3machine.com/software/MuzicMan/">MuzicMan</a>.

do i need a different soundcard?

while recording from cassette to pc soundcard- my soundcard is an ess solo with : speaker out, mic out, line in. i have my cassette deck hooked thru my reciever, then from reciever to line-in of soundcard.
i have speaker-out of soundcard to aux-in of reciever. when playing sound from pc i get terrible feedback unless i unhook my line-in connection. i can eliminate this by not going to reciever from speaker-out and go directly to pc speakers, but i want to run my stereo speakers on reciever for greater volume and sound. if anyone understands this, will a soundcard with extra jacks help. thanks dave

Re: do i need a different soundcard?

Dave:

Although this was a little confusing, I believe I understand what you're doing. I tried something similar to rip a cassette to MP3s once, and had the same problem.

The answer to your question is No, a new sound card wouldn't necessarily fix your problem. There are three major factors in your problem. The first is the quality of wire you are using to connect your sound card and receiver together. If it isn't pretty top of the line, then your soundcard will produce feedback through a receiver. The next is the quality of the receiver and the reveiver jacks themselves. Again, if a good connection can not be made here, then you will produce sound deformations. And the third is the quality of your sound card's jacks, for the same reason.

If you have a high quality reveiver, then I would suggest doing the following (in order) to see what produces a better sound:

(1) Clean your jacks on your receiver and sound card.

(2) Replace the wire to connect them with a higher priced, higher quality wire, and be sure they have platinum or gold tips on the male prongs.

(3) I would definitely suggest (but mostly if the previous hasn't worked) getting a better sound card. The Creavtive PCI 128 Live! is supposed to be pretty decent about those things. But Creative REALLY likes that card, so you'll pay a pretty penny for it.

(4) If all else fails, try finding a nice 5.1 surround sound system for your computer. This is what I have, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. (Well, maybe for a 6" sub with some 4" surround speakers) :)

recording from cassette problem ? sound from one side only .

i am recording from cassette to pc, using cord from rca jacks on reciever to mini-plug line-in on soundcard. after recording i only get sound from one side. must i use mono setting on recording program ? how can i get sound from both sides in stereo ? i recorded a cd and never caught this until playing it back on my home stereo and only have sound from one speaker. thanks and feel free to email me at brusher1@foothills.net

Re: recording from cassette problem ? sound from one side only .

Hi Dave!! I do a considerable amount of recording
from cassette to PC. I use a tape deck (Optimus SCT-86 Stereo Cassette Tape Deck from Radio Shack ) and it works like a charm. I use a "Y" cable. The end of the "Y" goes to LINE-IN and the
remaining branches are inserted into the RT. and LFT. outlets, respectively, of the Tape Deck. Press Play and away you go. One thing you must make sure of, and that is, each connection is secure ( solid ) in its contact. If, it is not, you may find that you have the same problem you are having now. Say, the RT. channel recorded and the LFT.channel not,or, vice-versa. Make sure you have GOOD POSITVE contact in all of your connections. This may be your problem now. Check it out with Radio Shack....

Re: recording from cassette problem ? sound from one side only .

: Dave, I had the same problem. You need a different RCA to 1/8 plug cable than the one you have now. Went to Best Buy and got one from the PC dept, not the audio dept. Not sure what the difference was in the cables, they look the same and are hooked up the same, but they are not. Cost about 6 bucks and works like a charm! Good luck!

Voice Elimination

I've been told that there is software available
that permits you to remove the Lead Voice from
a song and leaves only the background music in place.

Any body know where to find these products?

Joe

Re: Voice Elimination

Well, there's a small and free program called VocalRemover, wich you can probably download from Hitsquad. It can also be done in Cool Edit under Channel Mixer. Note that vocal removing is only possible when you have a stereo sample where the vocals are equally loud left and right (see Cool Edit Help)

Hope it helps,

Rosk

CD+G Two Questions

I have recorded some Karaoke CD+G's onto my
personal computer's hard drive. They play fine
on my computer (CD drive), but the GRAPHICS
WILL NOT appear on the screen. I was told that
there is a software solution to this problem.

Can any one advise me?

Also, I'd like to reload the Karaoke Disks onto
my hard drive using MP3. Would the software deal
with the MP3 format? Or would I need any additional
software for an MP3 Solution.

Thanks

Re: CD+G Two Questions

I also have the same problem i would be gratefull
if you when you solve the problem you would
let me know
thanks phil

Might be able to help. Have Dance Ejay myself, in the menu to load/save your mix, there is the option to export it. Doing that changes it to a wav file

a good audio editor like sound fordge or wavelab is your best bet!

Re: Making loops

Well... if you want to make loops another way
than the way fruityloops uses, then you could
give Tuareg a try... www.brambos.com
I like it for the unexpected results I always
get if I am looking for something fresh.

Software that assembles notes to human voice

Three years ago a company made a software that allows you to sing...
or hum into the mike and it will make MIDI musical notations.
Anyone knows about this software or similar software that creates notes to mike input?
I lost the company name. Please contact me at my email address: webkruzer1@yahoo.com

Re: Software that assembles notes to human voice

<a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Sound2MIDI/">Sound2Midi</a>
- Audio recognition that amazingly converts your sound performances straight from microphone into MIDI

<a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/AudioToMidi/">AudioToMidi</a>
- Real-time sound to note converter

Also, check the following categories on SMM;

<a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/win95/NOTATION/">NOTATION</a>

Best of luck.

converting WAV to AIFF

Is it possible to convert wav. files into aiff files?
If so how.

Re: converting WAV to AIFF

: Is it possible to convert wav. files into aiff files?

I use Sound Forge XG, which came with the sound card I have, but I suspect this would be the same with most wave editors. Simply load up the file in either format, and then "save as", and change the format in the save box.

SoundBlaster Live Cards

I have a SB Live value card . Is the SB Live Platinum the same card except the softwear and Live drive? Does the live drive make a differance in recording music or is it just more conveniant to plug in stuff in the front? I'm plugging my condenser mic in the 1/8 jacks. Would it be better in the 1/4 jacks on the live drive?

Re: SoundBlaster Live Cards

Hello ,
i have a SB live Xgamer and a SB live value , they are very different cards! they value is a very basic hi end sound card. really it's only difference from any other sound card that it has 2 stereo outs and 2 stereo ins, that's about where the similarities end. the Xgamer and MP3 have internal aux in and out jacks for adding features like the live drive and the.... [ i can't remember the products name but it is similar to the live drive but it's a PCI card ! ]the value doesn not have this level of expanablity.
about the live drive although i do not have one , YET! , i've done much research on this product. If you plan to add any kind of instrument to your computer for recording purposes you want/need a live drive. there are some other higher end products that have more options on them but for the common computer geek the live drive is perfect. especially the front plugs , very nice for changing stuff around quick.
what i'm really looking for a good instrument interface card and software package. i've seen some things that come with a 49key midi controler and some sort of PCI synth card bundled with cakewalk software, but i'm not really sure how good that package is. anyone have any advice, links, or comments ? e-mail me preferably , i seldom check these message boards.

GUITAR TO MY COMPUTER

how can i plug my electric guitar into my computer and record what i'm playing?

Re: GUITAR TO MY COMPUTER

: how can i plug my electric guitar into my computer and record what i'm playing?
download pro tools free from www.digidesign.com
then buy a microphone such as a sure sm-57 or a rode rd-1 and figure out how to get it into your pc(generraly a soundcard with i/o and a preamp)

then if you get more ambitious check out the cubase vst32 demo at
www.steinberg.net
id reccomend logic audio to you as well, but if your dim witted id avoid logic and get cubase

Re: GUITAR TO MY COMPUTER

: There is probably a better way but this is how I do it:

guitar-distortion unit- 4 track recorder input-line in of pc audio card.

Make sure the mixer of the pc is set to accept line in signal and that the level is sufficient.

This only works if you have a 4 track. I like this method because I have more EQ adjustment and level control. You may be able to use a microphone and get an adapter to adapt from 1/4 to miniplug (input of soundcard) and use the PC mixer to boost the level. I haven't tried this but it could possibly work.

As for recording; I record riffs in sound forge then use ACID as a sequencer to piece the parts together. I like recording in sections this way I can re-arrange them on the fly and I can be sure they are close to perfect everytime. I hope this helps.

RE: CASMATE 6.52

Does anybody know how to make CASMATE 6.52 to type Chinese? I'm sure it support Chinese. The only problem is it does not accept Chinese input.

Transposing services

I need a couple of songs transposed.
Where can I find quick turn around services?

Specifically I need Hark, The Herald Angels Sing transposed from G Major to D Major. I also need it
transposed so that a b flat instrument can play it (trumpet) for our church choir. This seems to be a problem many choirs have from reading several e-mails.
Thanks, Rose

mp3-wav and the scratching associated with it...possible solutio

Ever since ive gotten my new car system, when ever i record mp3s to wav format and then burn them to cd, i hear this scratching noise on some tracks. I use music match and was wondering what could cause this? when bands recored in a studio and put out a record there is no scratching...etc. I tried to use noise reduction programs, but they did not work at all. So basically im wondering if there is a program that can do what i want, remove that stupid noise, or if there is something better then music match to get clearer sounding wav files. Also, would getting a program that converts mp3s to wav and puts them on a cd automatically be better then converting mp3 to wav then burning them onto a cd player via, a program such as easy cd creator.

any help would be appreciated....thanks
