Digi 001

I'm getting ready to build my first DAW. After considerable research, I am leaning toward the Digi 001. I am concerned about latency however. The other finalists in my search were the Aardvark 2496 and the Echo Mona. Both seemed to address latency better than the Digi 001. I plan to run my studio on a 400MhZ PC with 128 Mb RAM and Windows 98. Does anyone have any opinions? Thanks.

Re: Digi 001

Well, i use the 001 and have to say that with pro tools it has low latency. But if you want to use ANY other software application with it get a different soundcard.Logic audio will also run well on it, but its not perfect.

I might also suggest rme's soundcards.Or the midiman delta 1010 wich comes bundled with sonic foundry's vegas. Programs like cubase, cakewalk and logic all have extensive midi features, but all are lacking in audio editing and mix engines. Vegas is a good audio editor

For audio editing programs like cool edit and vegas have certain features trhat make them quick and easy. But pro tools also has those features as well as a a strong mix engine and lots of plug ins(on mac).
A problem would arise though with pro tools perhaps if you were buying it to use plug ins, or soft synths because direct connect theyre equivilant to rewire is currentlu only available for mac. Likewise there is a MAJOR draught in rtas plug ins for p.c.Personally i use a mac so I cant complain, but If I were to start from scratch i'd probably go for digital performer.

From what i've heard rme soundcards give great performance with asio. And as for high quality at a low price the delta 1010 is cool.
I'm weary of aardvarks systems simply because personally I'd like to have as many channels free to select different pre amps as possible. It would be a shame to get a pricey soundcard only to find youve outgrown its pre's.

the midiman 1010 sells here for cheap and comes bundled with vegas wich is a great audio editor. then you could add cubase for midi. also the 001 sells really cheap here as well.Another cheap option is egosystems wave terminal.

I'm a fan of rme's stuff personally...
Aardvark is also of extremely high quality(but if you outgrow its pre amps what then?)
the midiman delta 1010 is good.

The 001 is good for pro tools, but will also woprk good with logic audio.

On mac the way to go seems to be digital performer and a motu interface.Digital performer seems to be the most complete audio/midi package.pro tools is great for audio, but weak on the midi.

If your gonna rock and roll get 001/pro tools. If your going to do electronica dont get the 001. On pc theres no asio drivers, and no direct x drivers. But, i must say a pro tools and logic audio tandem make a killer combo. logic audio will run just fine on the 001.

btw, midi man makes a very low cost pre amp thats good. Or for a warmer sound theres the pre sonus blue tube wich is also very cheap.
But the addition of a neve or avalon pre amp would blow all that away( we can dream cant we)

Id also like to suggest doubling your cpu and ram.

get cheap equipment here...

Re: Digi 001

Hey, thanks for your help. Your comment about using plug-ins and soft synths is right on. I plan to use Native Instruments B-4 at least. I'm new to this, so your help is really apprecaited. Also, the Bayview site looks great!

Beginner's help

I am totally new to this music recording business. I have a CD in my drive and I'd like to save its .cda tracks to my hard drive. How do I do this?

Re: Beginner's help

": I am totally new to this music recording business. I have a CD in my drive and I'd like to save its .cda tracks to my hard drive. How do I do this?"

you have to rip them (transfer them) to the hard drive using a ripping program, then save them as .wav files or .mp3 files or somthing else.
you should use a search engine like lycos to find a free or shareware program to do this for you. if you need more help or want full featured software contact me at "computerpizza@excite.com"

Please Help! can i backup dvd's?

I have a very simple question. I'm completely new to dvd, so my question might be very stupid. I have a psx2. I have a great pc, with a cdrom burner. Can i backup my dvd's? thx

It is not possible to backup dvds with an ordinary cd burner(such as original playstation games). You will need to acquire a dvd burner but are very costly. The dvd discs themselves cost about $40, and I haven't heard of anyone who has successfully backed up a ps2 game yet.

Actually you can

It is possible to backup DVD movies to CDR and CDRW. With the correct software you can backup a dvd movie to about 3 CD's (size difference after compressing) Only problem is playing it in ordinary DVD players. As for PS2 games, they can be backed up as easily as a PS1 game and with a mod chip can be played again just as easily. Check the link for the required apps for DVD backup.

Re: Actually you can

I've already backed up some DVD's to VCD format (also DIVx and SVCD), but still I have a doubt.
I have recieved a spam e-mail at my hotmail account (I think everybody who has a Hotmail account is used to this) and the curious thing is that they
offer a software to be able to actually create a DVD with a normal CD-R or CD-RW.
I would request it just to try, but the problem is that it is for sale and they need the credit card... I'm don't trust very much in giving my credit card number
on a website which address I received via a spam e-mail. So, my question is, to anybody who knows it,
is it actually possible to control via software the creation of DVD format? So, do you think it is possible?
Thanks.

Re: download query

Hi there

You don't need to subscribe to any newsletter to download. I recommend that you do subscribe so that you can find out about all the latest music software. But the reason why you couldn't download is due to the fact that our link to the file was invalid. We will fix it up. Promise.

Cheers
Geoff

Audio recording with voice removal from CD

Is there any legal software that will allow you to remove the voice part of the music as or before you record it. Please advise if there is or not software capable of doing this.

Thanks

Re: Audio recording with voice removal from CD

Is there any computer software that you can make your own techno mixes, remove vioces, record your own sounds on, and perhaps add drums and other instruments that come along with the program?

Re: Audio recording with voice removal from CD

Any one figure out a better way to remove vocals?
