Software to play audio tracks selectively

Hello,
Perhaps some one here can help me.
I'm looking for a software program that is set up so that it will selectively play a short piece of audio (which I want to record) when I click on a button on the screen.
I want to have perhaps 12 to 24 buttons set up and an audio file associated with each of them. When I click on say five in sequence, I want the audio files associated with those five to play in the same sequence.
Ideally I would like an application that runs on both Windows and Mac.
I searched google high and low and can't find anything that comes even close; I guess I'm not really sure what to call that type of software.

Thanks, Knut

The type of software you're looking for is called a 'CART Machine' and you will find them on this site in the <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/RADIO_PRODUCTION/">Radio Production</a> area.

Jason,

Thank you so much for your reply. I looked at a some of the 'Cart Machine' software programs on the net and they pretty much meet my needs; just need to find the one that provides all the right options.
I don't think I would have ever found this type of software without your help, thanks again,

Normalize Mac music?

I'm looking for Mac freeware music burning software that can normalize the volume of tracks from various sources.

I've used the "Sound Check" feature in iTunes which is supposed to normalize, but the result was disappointing.

Thanks,
Steve

Re: Normalize Mac music?

Normailizing any track simply brings the highest levels in the track up to "0". This rarely has any noticable effect on the perceived volume of track, especially if it's been recorded professionally or at least by someone with even a little know-how. In other words, tracks almost always are already at "0".

To increase the perceived volume of songs you'd need to compress them which takes a bit of skill and can make things sound much worse, but there are some software/programs designed to do this. I don't know if they're any good - do a search for increase perceived loudness and not normalizing to get what you want.

U can use the Xing Player software. it will plays autometically.

Thanks

Balaji

Re: .cda to mp3 format

A .CDA file is not a video file, or an audio file - it is simply a shortcut placed on an audio CD telling the player where the track starts and finishes. Put any music CD in a PC and look at it with Windows Explorer and you'll see that the CDA files are only 1k in size - hardly much room to put music in.

If you want to extract an audio file from a CD, you'll need a ripper (www.cdex.n3.net)

: Hi my name is Kaitlin and i am 13 years old. I have been wanting ot be a singer ever since I was a little girl. It has been one of my big dreams to become one. My family and relatives say I have a wonderful voice and I would love for people to buy my singles. I just need some help to find a manager and a producer. I have alot of faith in myself if i really work on them. Thankyou for your time and support.
: P.S.- I don't want to become a singer for the money. I just want everyone to hear my voice.

i just really want my dream 2 come true i love 2 sing but noone has heard me but my mom and dad i want people 2 hear me i want 2 be discovered ive never been a lucky person but if my dream were 2 come true if you responded to this i would be the luckiest 12 year old ever please help make my dreams come true. sicerly- Jenny

Re: hi im 12 - 13 and and i just wanna let people hear my gre

Oh no, not another one.....

A few tips:

1. Never believe what friends, relatives etc. say - they will never be honest and say "you sound awful", they'll tell you exactly what they want you to hear.

2. To get ANYWHERE in this business, you need a proper demo - and that means getting into a studio - which costs money. If you're a singer then it's more difficult because you need session musicians for backing.

3. If you're really that confident, go to a professional music teacher and ask for their opinion.

4. Be prepared for disappointment.

Unity DS-1 Bitheadz Sequencer

Help, I just found a cd containing Unity DS-1 Bitheadz in my closet and wanted to install it, unfortunelty, I can only find the cd and not the box with the install password of registration number on it. This is at least 4 years old and Bitheadz is no longer in business, so I wont get any help through them. (I had this installed originally on my Mac os 9.0 but of course have since done clean installs so it's is no longer there.

Thank you.

roland s-50

Hi,

I've recently been given a roland s-50 that appears to be in decent shape but for one small problem: it came with no program disk or instructions.

I'm wondering if anyone could provide me with any information on how I could get a program disk for this unit. I understand it is an older model no longer serviced by Roland, but have been told it's worth a little work if needed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

John Harden

Re: roland s-50

The Roland s-50 is mute. It requires a system 2 disk to boot it and then you have to sample. I don't know of any free manuals. I wrote to Roland in Wales and they sent me a disk. It didn't work but a copy did!

You used to be able to download the file s5520.zip I think it is. I may be able to email you the file if you can't get it.

Re: roland s-50

br>11:38 28/11/04

Further to my recent brief note.

The system file is < S5020.zip >.
Search Yahoo under < Roland s-50 > or, perhaps,
< Rsb_501_.zip >.
You should find a company offering free download of sample files.
Any sample file should contain the operating system.
Files are in the form < mydisk.out >.
The S-50 uses 720KB disks and the files are a similar size.
The files are written to disk using < sdisk.exe >.
This 18KB executable can be downloaded with the < .out > files.
sdisk runs on the command line - it will not run in Windows dos box.

TO OPERATE THE S-50:

Plug stereo headphones into the jack provided.
Plug a computer mains cable into the Roland.
Have your disk ready.
Switch on the Roland and plug in the disk.
The display should count down from 71 to 0.

POSSIBLE FAULTS:-

Roland does not count:
Gibberish in display:
Roland counts down to 18 and sticks:
It counts to 0 then goes back to 35 and repeats (may then settle).

If necessary, try another disk or try again.
The System 2.0 disk is mute but sample disks should produce sound.
Disk 501_1.out should give three electric pianos on P1, P2 and P3.

To boot another disk:-

Put in disk, press <disk> then <shift> then <enter>.
When the Roland has booted, use it to format a blank disk!
You will then get a clean, reliable, copy of system 2.0.

The s-50 is complicated, so do obtain a monitor!
A monitor helps to spot and correct your mistakes.
It will help you loop your samples.

Most monitors will do for mono, if they can use composite video.
I have used mono and PAL monitors and PAL, SECAM and NTSC, CTVs.
Simplest is to use a phono lead to plug into a CTV video socket.
It should be possible to make up a SCART or s-video lead.
If possible use high impedance rather than 75 ohms.

The s-50 is puzzling, but there are instructions on the net.
Otherwise, you can work it out yourself, as I did.
A manual is available but costs 20 British pounds.

I may be able to email a sample disk using "unison", a Roland trick.
This disk should boot the s-50. Please let me know if you need it.
It sounds horrible but you can fix that.

Is your mono video output intermittent or not working?
You can use the colour socket for composite mono video instead.
You don't need the 8-pin plug - you can use a 5-pin din for this.
Sorry - I can't remember which pin is used! I will check this.
The quality is not as good as using the mono socket.

If the Roland sounds horrible:-

Try rebooting or try another disk.
It may be that the key touch is wrong for you.
Alter the response using the menu when you've found it!

"16 voices" is a reference to polyphony.
The Roland has no wavetable sounds in ROM!

Even when mute, the s-50 is a fine MIDI keyboard.
It allows bending, touch response and aftertouch.
MIDI does not work till you boot a disk!
The System 2.0 disk contains several MIDI patches.

The s-50 is a 12-bit sampler.
It is over 15 years old so do

Re: roland s-50

:hello John,

I am in the same exact situation as you. I just
checked ebay and only found some samples. But I
do not know how to load anything onto the s-50. I read up on the roland and found out that there is 16 in house voices on the s-50. I do not even know how to activate them? Do you? Thanks John, if I find any information I will contact you.

Re: roland s-50

Hi to both of you, Jay and John -

I jumped on the 'net tonight and googled around for a Roland S-50 forum specifically to see if I could find any takers for an owner's manual for the Roland S-50. The manual I have is a mint condition 'copy', complete with GBC binding and thick clear plastic covers. I was a Roland fanatic for years (still have some of my Roland keyboards from 'yesteryear') in my Top-40 dance band days. Playing mostly jazz these days and am trying to clear out the shelves in my study. I would be willing to part with the S-50 manual for $15.00 plus shipping of your choice. email me - jmobilio@snet.net. Thanks

Change CD&G to Kar format

Can this be done. Alot of programs out there that will change kar to whatever you wish, but I can't find any info to go CDG or Bin to kar.
Thanks Joe

Re: Change CD&G to Kar format

Conversion of that nature is not possible at this time. For the moment, you can only convert from the MIDI / KAR format to CD+G. Maybe someday...

BIG PROBLEM

i have a big problem!
i'm into recording
i recorded my friends bands live concert but didn't have time to save the whole file. i was able to recover the whole thing from my "temp" folder but now it is saved in the .TMP format. it will play in media player but i can't open it in Audio MP3 Editor (which is the program that i use). i was stupid and i didn't make a copy of it before i started fooling around and i changed the format to .MP3. it still doesn't work in Audio MP3 Editor and still works in media player but now i can't change the format back to .TMP. the file is huge (like 157MB) and i can't do anything with it.

if anyone could help me out here it would be well appriciated.

if i can get it to open in something or if i can get a program where i caould record it from media player without loosing the quality it would be great.

HELP?!?!

Re: BIG PROBLEM

You'll find audio capture software in the <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/win95/AUDIO_RECORDING/">Recording</a> section. YoGen Audio Recorder 1.3.1 is one of many.
