eliminating single instruments from songs

I know that there is some software that enables you to remove the vocals from a song, or instead removing all the backing music, but what about if I wanted to remove one instrument from the backing music, one at a time- say, if i only wanted to listen to the bass of a song, etc. Is there any specific software that would enable me to do that?

Simple answer is no. All that software can do is remove frequency bands or parts of the soundstage (i.e where the instrument/vocalist is in the stereo image), and even this is far from perfect. The only way you can do this properly is with the orginal multi-track recording or a midi file of the tune.

The best advice I can offer to a young singers like
many of you here is to learn more about music theory
and singing by taking classes and reading books.

There are some excellent books on singing at

If you can't afford the to buy the books then your local library would be a good place to look.
