Adjusting Sound Levels On Wave Files

What do I use to have the sound levels of all of my songs that I'm prepairing to burn
equel. The sound levels are all over the place. I have the winamp plug in for playing mp3's
at the same level but I need something for the wave files to make them the same before I
burn them to disc

EZ man... You can use audio-catalyst to normalize to 0 db volume... EZ

You can use that plugin with Winamp, if you make sure that plugin is turned on, and se Winampp to convert the songs to wav files.

If you find that just doesn't do it well enough, then you can get a directX plugin that let's you use dx sound plugins with winamp, and you can use a fully functional compressor.

Get the program called Easy CDDA Extractor, it contains a sub-program called Easy Audio File Converter...simply drag the .wma file into the window and click `convert' :-)

I dont know how to do it. I just want to tell everyone that the record company's are responsible for this copy protected bullshit. I believe when you buy a cd you should be able to do whatever you want to do with it, including downloading it on to your computer and burning a cd with your favorate tracks. So If anyone knows how to get around the copywrite law, post it everywhere on the internet you can think of.

download or at least aquire a program to extract the audio off of the cd to mp3 or wav file
i.e. cd extractor (maybe beta) (do keyword search)
then to burn depending on ur writer u will need burning software the easiest ive used was a prog called mp3 to cd that way u dont have to convert to wav to write the prog does it for u as it writes....

Open WinAmp.
Press the EJECT button.
Select the file you want to convert.
Click on 'Open'.
Stop the song you are playing (the one you want to convert).
Click on the little WinAmp symbol in the upper left hand corner.
Click on OPTIONS > PREFERENCES.
In the left window under PLUG-INS, click on OUTPUT.
In the right window, click on 'Nullsoft Disk Writer plug-in v1.x (x86)'.
Click on 'Configure'.
Select the folder you want to save your output .wav file in and click on 'OK'.
Click on 'Close' (in the 'Preferences' window).
Click on the 'Play' button in WinAmp's main window.
It looks as if the file is being played but you can't hear anything... that's what's supposed to happen. The song is being written to .wav format.

Tips:

Don't forget to go back to the PREFERENCES > OUTPUT > PLUG-INS properties like before and click on the output plug-in that was set before you began this process ('Nullsoft waveOut plug-in v2.xx (x86)' or 'Nullsoft DirectSound plug-in v0.xx') and then click on 'Close'.

I picked up a wma file off napster that is one of those 'fake files'. It doesn't play, it can't be deleted, moved, converted, or renamed and is a read only file. Is there any way to get rid of it?

Windows Media Player does this job(play) very well.
In order to do anything with WMA file simple shut
off Napster and work from Wind.Explorer or from the DOS promt.
Good luck! Don't play them from the Napster!!

You need a total recorder, there aren't converters for WMA, unless you have an older version of winamp. total recorder will aloow you to record the song as awav file, while its playing back

Digital Editor

I work in the broadcasting industry. I am a News Director for a local radio station in Laramie, Wyoming to be exact. I have used both editors and I believe the SAW (software audio workshop) wins hands down. The ease of operation for digital editing, the simple keystrokes for mixing two or more elements is simply astounding. For my money, I'd choose SAW. If I could find a freeware or demo version which would allow me to work for more than one minute. I would have it on my pc in a heartbeat!

Need program for editing, transposition

instruments. I don't have any experience with what's
available and just on this web site the options seem
daunting. Any suggestions/endorsements?

Have a look at Music Publisher (also on this site). It's a notation system only and allows you to do anything you want on the printed page. There is a scanning module available which means you can scan existing scores into the package (copyright permitting!).

Basically a notation program, not a sound system and completely WYSIWYG and intuitive.

Get a shareware audio editor called Goldwave. It allows you to mess around with your own recordings, applying effects,etc. Of course you need some way of recording your material, purchase a nice microphone, and your off.

Remove music, keep vocals

Is there any way to remove the music from a track and keep the vocals? I know how to remove vocals from tracks, but I would like to be able to do the opposite. Any help would be appreciated.

There is NO PROGRAM, I repeat, NO PROGRAM which can keep the vocals and remove the music entirely or remove the vocals and keep the music. It is impossible because the music and the vocals are ,in fact, some frequencies.For example, my voice is represented by a large frequency spectrum, from 150Hz to almost 10000Hz. The frequency representing the sound of an instrument can be the same with the frequency representing my voice, so the program can not distinguish whether that frequency , which it has to remove, is music or voice. So.... it is impossible

The answer is simple: On most of the pop music the vocals are situated in the midle of the stereo field(as also the base and low drums) If you do the folowing: LEFT + Inverted RIGHT you will filter out all the sound that is equal on both sides. This is how all the karaoke machines do it...the problems are that the resulting sound is mono and that it also eliminates the base(and other sounds that are situated in the midle) thats why they usualy amplify the lower sonds at the end....

Okay i've had some "relative" good results with the noise filter on Cooledit pro. 2.0.
Mark1: Don't try to remove music from complex pasages(with drums layers and so) this will result in... shit.
Mark2: cut a small piece to test (~30sec)
Mark3: find from this small piece a chunk with NO vocals (min. 3sec.)
Mark4: Use this as a "get profile from selection" for the filter
Mark5: Play with the settings and select the whole piece ...and remove the 'noise'
Mark6: you will never get what u realy want

The only solution:
Well REMOVE the vocals from the original. Save the sample.
Then open the original sample (with vocals) and substract(-) the one u yust made with no vocals. In the substraction u'll get the vocals only.
But .... Vocal removal is always verry bad...there is no good filtering method for this..(ususaly L-R resulting in mono sample)

Convert the files to wav, using a program such as Winamp (It's Free) and then get a program calle d "Real Producer" from Realnetworks, the company that makes realplayer. ( www.real.com )

Midi to wav

OK, I have this casio keyboard and the it's hooked up to my computer, but anything that isn't general MIDI (including the drumsets) come up as just normal piano. Plus the tones that I have edited and they just come out as normal piano. my brother says all i need is a MIDI to wav convertor, do you people know what I should do? See right now all of my songs really suck. We madea a cord that goes from the Mono output of my keyboard to the mic. in on my computer but that always has fuzz coming in with the sound. Know how to fix either? tell me please. If you even think you might possibly have an idea tell me!

Do you want to use the keyboards sounds or the MIDI on your sound card? It sounds like you are using the MIDI sounds from your sound card. You need to switch the local on on your keyboard. If you are going to plug your keyboards output into your sound card you need to plug it into a line in input.
