I bought my first sound blaster live plat. card and your soft ware came with it. Now the instruction manual is very veg on how to get started. I want to start multi tracking but I dont know to plug in my instruments to co-inact with program. wav to midi

i'm looking for a free prog that converts .wav files to midi any suggestions?

Re: wav to midi

Hi

Try <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/WaveGoodbye/">Wave Goodbye</a>.

More titles at: <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/win95/FORMAT_CONVERTERS/">http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/win95/FORMAT_CONVERTERS/</a>.

Re: wav to midi

i tried out several programs... now i can say: installing, checking out and deinstalling them *g* takes much more time than you`ll need to transcribe the shit using your ears and hands. so, if you got any real instrument at hands, a piano or a guitar, get the idea of wav to midi out of your mind. it doesn`t work, the only use of those incredible programs is creating weird midi information without any similarity with the original material, so you have random music. lol. but if this is what you want, try out quasi fractal composer...

Re: wav to midi

oh, but wouldn't it be great!! first, i'd take my cd of choice, then i'd rip it on to my hard drive using realjukebox. then i'd convert it to WAV format using Cool Edit 2000. then i'd muck around with the file for a while, isolating one particular instrument as much as possible. then the fun part; trying to create a suitable small wav file sampling the exact tone colour of the instrument in question to allow computer analysis of the wav file. then it's over to 'AMAZING MIDI' for the final conversion to midi; providing of course that the damn thing decides to work. then it's just a matter of opening the file in anvil studio, and spending 6 months fixing the piece of crap it offers you.

for heaven's sake. use the musician's 2 most valuable resources; his EARS!!!

Simple audio recording software needed

I would be grateful for any advice on a suitable, preferably freeware, audio recording program. I am looking to record guitar tracks via the line in socket on my Crystal soundcard, but with the ability to record multiple tracks over the original recording.

Re: Simple audio recording software needed

Hi

For recording audio (and editing) try <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Cool_Edit_2k/">Cool Edit 2000</a>.

There are a number of freeware multi-track recorders. Try <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/DDClip_Free/">DDClip</a> or <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/FatRockStudio/">Fat Rock Studio</a>. But for quality, I'd go for <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/n-Track_studio/">N-Track</a>. It's shareware but worth the effort.

Cheers

Re: Simple audio recording software needed

If you can live with a limit of 8 tracks and don't mind filling in a somewhat extensive poll form, but you want to get a glimpse at what the professionals are using, get ProTools Free from Digidesign. There are versions for Mac and WindowsPC. It has (almost) all the editing features of their $15,000+ systems, but it's native, i.e. uses your computer's processor and audio hardware, as opposed to the dedicated DSP cards of their pro systems. There's a basic stock of good plug-ins too. It's a powerful and very stable program.

Beware though: system and hardware requirements are quite demanding, and the download is about 50 MB. And you will have to read the manual, or you won't get very far. Details are all available at Digidesigns homepage.

Source code for creating MP3 player

does anyone know where i can get some source code or directions on how to create an MP3 player and if so can you give me the address

mac or pc

which is better for music stuff. mac or pc. and what program??

cheers

newbie alex

Re: mac or pc

For stability you are best off getting a mac, the only thing is they are more expensive and software is harder to acquire. PC’s on the over hand are less expensive, there is more software support and thing are more upgradeable; if you run a Windows NT system which is a true mult-tasking environment this will be more stable. Cubase vst is the software you need for midi sequencing, acid for making sampled music. The list is endless.

music from PC to reciever

I have a patch cord with the mini plug
on one end and RCA plugs at the otehr end.
I have this on my TAPE input on my reciever.
My problem is that I do not get sound through
both speakers and I get a loud humming sound.
I have messed aroundwith volume settings on
both ends and can tone down the humming a little,
but it still doesn't sound right. I have also
worked around a little with the Music Match MP3
equalizer which helps a little. Is there anything
else to tryor to add to my system to get good
quality sound?

Re: music from PC to reciever

try another port (CD, Aux, or even Tuner - got mine in last). You've hooked it up same way as I have, except for the port, and everything works fine over here.
However, sometimes I get the humming sound as well. One little tap on my computertower fixes it. Must have something to with infliction between the cables on the back. It's called 'ground' I believe in English ('Earth' in Dutch).

Luck with it

RA + RM to wav

I'm desperately looking for a free tool, that can convert RA/RM to .wav or mp3. I know there's Total Recorder, but it lets you make 40 sec samples only...
I know Streambox Ripper 2.007 was able to do that, but the updated versions can't and I have NO IDEA where to find v.2.007.
Any help would be greatly appreciated !

PC vs. Laptop (New user)

Hi, I'm looking into Computer Aided Music generation, but
unsure whether to purchase a easily up-gradeadle PC or a
Laptop. Apart from up-gradability are there any other reason's
why a PC would be better than a Laptop. The only thing I can think
of is the Sound-Card, how good they are in Laptop's and
can they be up-graded ?

Cheers,
SI

Re: PC vs. Laptop (New user)

Laptops are good for using in live situations as play back devices and running squencers. A desktop PC is easier and cheaper to upgrade there are more options for sound cards and other devices. If your going to use it in a mobile situation and your not going to need huge processing power or you have plenty of money to spend buy a laptop. There are a few quality laptop sound cards available but from what Ive seen there but there more expensive that a desktop ooptions. It comes down to personaly choice/money and what your going to be using for in the long run.

Re: PC vs. Laptop (New user)

There is a major drawback to laptop use - MIDI timing is not as accurate on some laptops as a PC for the main reason the drive and bus speeds are not as high. I know this from experience - have the newest Winbook made, but the MIDI suffers unacceptable lags because of poor drive/bus design and speeds. If you're going to use a laptop - make sure to get a GOOD one...Compaq or the new Vaio would be best.

music and computers

I'm interested in music and computers. I'm just getting started. I'm ripping CDs with Music Matchmaker and listening with Winamp. I want to know more about this technology. I'm interested in downloading my mp3 files to CDs for playing and for archive. I want to purchase a CD writer. Will a better sound card in my computer help? I have alot more questions. Can you help?

Re: music and computers

The soundcard quality don't give better sound when you burn CD's. Because the data you burn is a digital copy from your mp3 file. The burn software is important here, it have to be an excelent decoder, it have to enhace the mp3 file to match CD-quality. With good quality wav's there's no problem.
