use of tempo

i have dance ejay and collection #1, i want to make a composition after importing the relevant wav's, but the dance ejay plate is designed for 140 bpm and i cant compose any grunge at 90 bpm.i can't see how to stretch it to fit.raising the tempo ruins the sound obviously.please help!!

Re: use of tempo

Hello there

If you can convert the samples to WAV you should be able to use an audio editor to stretch the files.

What's more effective though is to use ACID as all you need to is specify the BPM of the song you want to compose and it will do all the strecthing work for you.

For the record, I'm fairly sure the EJAY samples are WAV files but with a different file extention.

Hope this helps
Geoff

Cubase and Tascam DA38 synch problems

I'm trying to synch a DA38 to cubase using an MMC 38 (midi machine control) and a MOTU Pocket express interface. Although it does hook up, the messages are all screwed up. The clocks don't match, when I hit record in cubase, the tascam plays. When I hit stop in cubase the tascam rewinds. Can anyone help me???
Please???

Mp3 editor?

Hello, I was just wondering where i could find a program to take parts of off my mp3 or wav files? like i just want to cut the ends off of some of my songs. if you know could you please email me? thanks!

Re: Mp3 editor?

Hi there

You'll find MP3 editing software here. One MP3 editor you may want to try is MP3 Cutter2.

As for audio editors, they are located at http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/AUDIO_EDITORS/. I'm a big fan of Cool Edit 2000.

Hope this helps

D-man Sound Card

Can Someone give me there opinon on D-man sounud cards...I'm looking to buy

Re: D-man Sound Card

: Can Someone give me there opinon on D-man sounud cards...I'm looking to buy

I used a D Man for about a year and thought it did a great job. A friend gave me Turtle Beach he no longer used so I took out the D Man and installed the TB. If you're interested in the D-Man let me know. It's a 16 bit ISA card with 6 available IRQs. 16 channel, UART mode MPU-401 MIDI interface.

Volume control software

I am rather new to burning music CD's. I take songs from various CD's and copy them to my hard drive and then burn a music CD for my own use.

One problem I have found is that I can't control or adjust the volume (loudness) levels on the individual songs, so I am forever turning the volume knob up or down for each song while playing .

Is there a program out there that either lets me equalize the volume for all of the songs before I copy them to my hard drive, or allows me to equalize the volume level while I am burning the entire CD? Maybe I am not using the correct terms, and there is something already available and I just don't know the proper "buzz words" to find it.

Thanks in advance for your help and patience!!!!

installing 2 sound cards

I currently have a sound blaster live platinum card in my machine and was wondering if it's possible to add a yamaha SW1000XG and if so how do I configure everything on my computer?? Is there a way....say....to use the sound blaster for everyday computer things and games and turn around and use the yamaha for serious music production. By the way one potential problem I might have is that I have 4 open pci slots but I have no free IRQ's. thanks for any and all imput.

Yes you can put two or more sound cards in your pc, BUT, unless they have link-up ability then you can only use one at a time. You mus tdesignate the preferred card in your system device panel for a specific usage, or you can let eh computer decide for you, BUT, AGAIN, they have to share an IRQ which is fine if there is no other conflicts.
My question to you is , why not simply use the better of the two cards ? Take out the cheapo one and use the best one (why not?)
good luck

Well the main reason I wanted to keep both of them was because I heard that the high end cards like yamaha kind of suck for gaming and other everyday computer things. Was wondering if it would work to create a second hardware profile with the soundblaster deactivated and the yamaha hooked up.

Re: Beginner question

I use Mac and PC everyday, and still prefer the Mac, especially for music.

I have used ConcertWare by Jump Music for many years for music notation and playback.

Re: Beginner question

Try orangator (it's free and downloadable from this site). It's a cool softsynth; although it might seem a bit complicated and too scientific, it's great to create all sort of sounds , and it's good to learn something about the basics of sound design.

Greetings,

Rosk

Re: Beginner question

cheers rosk,

in fact one more question still to buy a computer and am thinking about buying a mac for the first time. wise choice?? does orangator work with mac.

thanks again

CAPABILITY OF A MAC & 50 RANDOM BISKITS ???!!

I AM GETTING A MAC LAPTOP AND WAS WONDERING THE CAPABILITY IT HAS TO CONDUCT MUSIC WRITING, SAMPLING, WEQUENCING, EDITING, ETC. ETC. PROGRAMS.
I THINK ITS 2 YEARS OLD, AND I'M RELATIVELY NEW TO THE ELECTRONIC MUSIC THING, SO ANY INFO ON PRODUCING, CREATING, AND WRITING DANCE TRACKS, OR IF THERE ARE ANY GOOD PROGRAMS/SITES U WOULD RECOMMEND 4 BOTH MAC LAPTOPS & PCs...especially if they are free.

IS THERE A CERTAIN TYPE OF PC YOU WOULD ALSO RECOMMEND ME USING (NOT A mAC) FOR THE PURPOSES OF ALL THE ABOVE AND MORE.

THANX FOR HELPING, AND PLEASE DO...
;O)

I AM NEEDING TO LEARN SO GUIDANCE WOULD B MUCH APPRECIATED.

Re: CAPABILITY OF A MAC & 50 RANDOM BISKITS ???!!

I have used Mac and PC for years on a daily basis. I still prefer Mac, especially for music. Mac's have a built-in synthesizer chip that produces the same quality as most synthesizers. The hook up between synth and computer is much easier (you need a MIDI interface), and there is a lot of music notation software available.

See these web sites

Ripping CDs without track skips

I've tried recording continuous DJ CDs using the usual Adaptec burner programs, but each time I end up with skips between track. Does anyone know how to record a whole CD as a continuous MP3? Especially with Adaptec software.

Thanks

What your wanting to do is called DAO "Disc-At-Once"

SONY CD-RW

i'm having trouble with my burner. it's an IDE, and i
assume it's hooked up right internally because it shows
up in the "my computer" section as a drive, but it is
showing up as a CD-Rom drive rather than CD-RW, and it
won't record on blank CD's, says they all have a 44 byte
track on them. I'm sure it's a software problem, and i was
wondering what i might be able to do for it?

thx-Justin

Software for fixing clicks?

I was wondering what is the best software for preventing clicks and other unnormal noises from a created burned cd? if there is one and the best cd-r disc to use thanks.

Re: Software for fixing clicks?

: I was wondering what is the best software for preventing clicks and other unnormal noises from a created burned cd? if there is one and the best cd-r disc to use thanks.

It all depends on what type of clicks you have. Are they from vinyl which you are trying to record on to a CDR because these types of pops and clicks can be easily removed by using Audio Restoration Software.

Hey,
THere is a number of reasons for clicks and noises. Usually it has to do with ram, settings on the software and hard drive speeds. However, Samplitude has a DeClicker program and it works pretty good from what I am told.
Good luck,
Tony

No they are either from the person i downloaded the song from or the conversion to wav. or when i am burning the cd .I asked this question because i heard there was a product that removes all clicks and other noises while creating the cd.Thanks

deleting wmas

Each time I have downloaded a wma music file from Napster, I am unable to remove it either from my base directory or from the computer - any attempt to delete one of them results in an "access denied" message - how can i delete them?

Re: deleting wmas

That is just really weird. I use WMA files myself and have no trouble, they have better fidelity than MP3s you can see it clearly on a frequency analyzer that less high frequency information is discarded. As for your problem, have you checked you dont have the WMA files open in another application when you try to delete them?

This is not a normal problem, WMA files are just as normal as any other file on your PC.

Hey David,
Only one suggestion aznd you probably thought of it already but,
Take a good quality mike, record from the speakers (centered) then master the sound in stereo with the software. Otherwise, get a new stereo.
Good luck,
Tony

Re: Making tapes into cd's

Just headphone from hi-fi to computer-line-in and adjust volume on hi-fi or input on computer.
CoolEdit will do all that.

HEy Hux,
If you are Miking the guitar, try using three separate mikes, one on the neck, one on the bottom and one mid sound hole about eight inches out. If your are pluggin straight into a mixer adn into your card from there, hey man, it's in the pick-up or the mix. Usually the pick-up is VERY important if you are doing in that way. Another thing to think about is mixing into a speaker and recording from it when you have a great acoustic sound using a good quality mike at the speaker.
good luck,
Tony
