cubase nightmare
I recently got hold of Cubase 5.0, and I thought it would be a great idea to put all my old 4-track stuff into it, track by track, and remix/remaster/archive it. Problem is, it's all gone out of time. I'm a total beginner at this, and I hope someone can make a fool out of me with a really easy reply !! This is how I've been doing it...
Line out from four track (1 channel at a time) - Line in on computer - select a track for recording - Get a level and record.
When I've recorded all the tracks, I synch them up at the beginning, but after 20 or so seconds, they all start to 'go out'. It seems to worsen if there's any gaps or staccato playing.

I have been trying to do the same thing with a friend of mines 8 track recording. We tried to get it to sync up for around 5 hours the other day and gave in.
The amount of work it would have taken in aligning every track every few seconds was more trouble than it's worth so we set about recording the tracks again... (which are sounding much better now).
I personally wouldn't do it 'One track at a time though'. If you have stereo in on your computer, Cubase should be able to treat that input as two mono inputs. Audio track one receiving signal from the left input and then audio track two from the right. As long as you 'pan' the tracks left and right (if your doing two tracks at a time) on the four track, the spillage (crosstalk) should be virtually non existent.
If the four track has AUX sends then you could send information out from track three and four on seperate sends although it sounds like you only have two track inputs at a time on your computer. Time for a 4 in/out audio card??
Vocal Writer Or Something Like It
KAE Labs(www.kaelabs.com) has a nifty program called Vocal Writer. It works just like any MIDI sequencer except that it will also sing you lyrics. The problem is that it is only for Power MacIntosh computers, and KAE Labs has yet to release a Windows version. Does anyone know of a similar program for Windows that will sing my lyrics? I'd love to have it.

alesis adat playback dropout
I am using an ADAT XT and on playback, at a precise point (almost as if it had something to do with the timecode) tracks 5-8 stop playing back and won't come back on unless I reboot. The same tape plays fine on another ADAT.
I also have the problem on all 8 channels when I try and record.
What's wrong??? Machine has 480 hours of head-use, in case that matters.

HOW DO I RECORD MY 2ND TRACK WITHOUT RE-RECORDING MY 1ST TRACK AGAIN? ON PLAY BACK THE 1ST TRACK IS ON MY 2ND AND I HATE IT!
DO I ROUTE IT THROUGH AUX. SO I CAN HEAR TO PLAY WITH THE TRACK OR WHAT?

You will need a CD burning program to burn to disc. Get <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Nero_win32/">Nero</a> as it has a help wizard which makes it all pretty easy.

After listening and collection electronic music in the Berlin School style for almost 30 years now that I have more time I will like to iniciate myself in the creation of sequencer music for my own satisfaction only.I am not a musician and I dont want to be just work with computer music and sequencing especifically.
I will like to kno to beging How to obtain free software, purchase used software or sequencer machines or samplers.When I read all this site I get a little bit confuse so I am looking for something simple to learn and begin. Thanks in advance for any help or idea

Buying CD's versus Downloads?
I recently checked out www.buymusic.com which appears to be the PC answer to Apple's iTunes. I recently converted all my CDs to variable bitrate MP3's (using LAME - my file sizes are averaging around 5-6 MB so I've got really good quality playback.)
In examining this ByMusic service it appears the downloads are WMA files that have the DMR copyright protection which allows you to only transfer the files to certain digital music players or burn CDs.
I am crazy or does this restriction really make it still much more attractive to buy the CD with the songs on it you want and get the uncompressed version that you can convert to any format you like and transfer to any device you like. It seems the only allure of this download service is if you only want one or two songs from the album.
My other concern is how good is 128bit WMA compared to a Variable Bit Rate MP3s (using LAME's Medium compression setting)?

I wouldn't go near any of those sites that favour WMA. MS are far too willing to be the copyright overlords on behalf of the dying music industry mafia.
Apart from anything. I found a program called Audiohijack for Mac OSX that will rip the audio from any audio application (including the OS) and save it as an uncompressed .AIF file.. Kinds of pisses on their fireworks...
"ALESIS didn't update with XP" I need someone who knows what to
I just got and XP. I have an Alesis that i use with Cakewalk for mixing. The disc I have only downloads drivers on 98's. Alesis said they aren't making anything compatible with XP and to use some "Roland" serial driver.
IT'S NOT WORKING.
I MAKE A LIVING OFF THIS, now I wish I still had my '98.
I need a play by play of what to do.
I've e-mailed Alesis and Roland, nobody has helped.
I need a smart person who is familiar with the Alesis format.

Hi Kenda.
Same problem, same disappointment.
Here's what to do:
Download this http://download.edirol.com/drivers/serial32_wxp2k.exe
it's the roland serial midi driver, as you know.
It will work with your alesis if you set the serial port under xp with theese settings:
- Use Multiple Ports: OFF
- Activate CTS/RTS Flow Control: ON
Also, make sure that the PC 38.4 Kbaud setting is enabled in the QS Global settings

Macintosh CD+G
What's a good prgm for CD+G for Macintoh (OS X if possible) I like the QuickTime Karaoke-Jukebox but, I can't figure out how to use a Karaoke CD+G and import it into QuickTime.
Any help would be most appreciated. I'm getting married and want to do some Karaoke at the reception.

I never really thought about it until now, but are mp3's in stereo? Will they switch between left and right speakers?

live bass loops
My band is having trouble finding a bass player and I wanted to know the best and easiest way to get a bass sound live without the bass. I don't know much about using recorded loops live and am concerned it might be too difficult to get the timing tight but I have seen other bands do something similar....Any ideas??
