Re: i-tunes and minidiscs

I would just record the audio straight in. If you have an audio card with a SP/DIF (digital) input then the quality will remain the same as the MD itself.

iTunes is an audio/streaming and CD burning application as well as an interface for the excellent iPod. It doesn't actually double as an audio recording program. There are however some audio recording programs that will work for you in the file area of this site. It's just a matter of plugging the audio outputs of the MD to the audio inputs on the mac, conquering the use of the audio software application (pretty straight forward at that level) and recording the audio in..

mac vs. pc, which one is better using pro tools

what's up!

i am in the process of putting together a business proposal for equipment that i will need for two studios that are almost finished. right now i am in a state of confusion, trying to find out if the pc is better to use with pro tools, or if the mac is better. basically advice from those who are "pro mac" have come from a couple of engineers that i know that have their own setup. those who were "pro pc's" were really dudes i know that build pc's and were saying that pc's are better computers, but because they're not musically inclined or haven't the slightest idea what a mixing board is, i am faced with this dilemma. i would also like to know do i any other outboard gear with pro tools besides mic pre's"? i should also mention that primarily i want to do r&b and hip-hop, but also want to be ready for someone that wants to do live recordings as well. also, what kind of mics are really good for these applications?

Re: mac vs. pc, which one is better using pro tools

I don't want to get into a Mac/PC debate.. I use a Mac and very very rarely see a Windows PC in a serious PT setup.

When you say "but also want to be ready for someone that wants to do live recordings as well", do you mean recording live?? or live recording as in venue recording?

Rather than list mic manufacturers like Studio Projects and AKG for days, it's better to think of the overall picture for recording live instruments and vocals. The environment you record in is paramount. You could buy the most expensive mic's and pre's and still be recording a cheesy room sound. I would consider some sound proofing, Some movable sound partitioning and the like, so you can create semi sound proofed environments for different instrument situations.

Proper mic stands and pop shields are also overlooked generally. Proper mic preamps will make the world of difference. Proper headphones with minimal leakage from the playback material. I would rather have a small selection of decent mic's and preamps than one hyper expensive mic and preamp chain.

You can have the most expensive protools setup with the nicest of desks but it wont dig you out of the hole that is a badly thought through signal chain from mic to recorder.

Get yourself a decent compressor for the mic preamp. I don't condone dynamic effects to tape but, a compressor used as a compressor/limiter when recording is as much to do with protecting your equipment as it is to level sometimes overly dynamic instruments and voices.

Variety is the spice of life. Luckily for us all, it's sooo much cheaper these days..

hey

I was just wondering what i should be looking for. Everyone is telling me a different thing towards buying a mac or pc laptop. Im in the sound industry i want to be able to use protools, and reason. Everyone keeps on telling me that macs are just a waste because you can get the same programs for macs to pcs and pcs are usually more powerful and have better performences. The only thing though, is that i know that in the whole sound industry is based on macs. So please help me out with my decision. Thx

Cakewalk 6.01

This program doesn't provide, according to message I'm getting, the room for recording of downloading anything. It says "disc is full" when I try. I recently upgraded to the XP for my OS, is this the problem, I couldn't find any patches to fix it however in fact I could not find any mention of the early programs before 7.0 on the Cakewalk site. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

Help with Karaoke CdG

I am familiar with burning movies and audio cd's but I have no clue on burning a karaoke cd and was wondering if anyone could give me some good advice to get started. I would like to have the good quality music not the midi files if at all possible. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks so much!!!

Re: sound forge 6.0

Although I have "help" on software, I don't know the terminology to request data.
1-I want to record a stereo source (both L & R same time.
2-I want to divide both L & R waves in several places. I hope that the division won't cause a separation so beginning with track 1 and play thru nn.

Taking a already made wav file and splitting up the parts

Is there a program that you can take a wav file of a song, and move vocals on to a track, lead guitar, bass guitar and drums and put each on a separate track and listen to each part of the wave file separetly? Never heard of a program that does this but never know?

Re: Taking a already made wav file and splitting up the parts

This question has been asked hundreds of times in this forum and a quick use of the search engine will give you the full answer. The short answer is no.

Brain Damage

I'm looking for a song that is called "Instant Brain Damage" by Smile. I accidentally stumbled onto it while looking for the song "She Bangs" by Ricky Martin (Is there maybe a connection between the two songs?) Anyway, the chorus goes: "You're love is like brain damage". I'd really appreciate any help with this. Thanks

POWERFUL, NEW HARMONIC EQUALIZATION SOFTWARE PRODUCES FLAWLESS SOUND TRACKS 100% OF THE TIME WITHOUT A MASTERING ENGINEER

Atlanta, Georgia - August 15, 2003 Har-Bal International - a joint venture between TAQUIS (Australia) and HDQTRZ Digital Studios (US) - announced today the release of Har-Bal (Harmonic Balancer) A powerful, new mastering equalization system for all Windows systems (95,98,ME, NT, 2000 or XP) that corrects inconsistencies in mixed track sound files 100 percent of the time. Har-Bal will revolutionize the music industry by completely eliminating the need to have a mastering engineer in the end process of music production.

The software is composed of two parts: a spectrum analysis engine and a high-resolution linear phase digital filter to perform the EQ'ing so there is imperceptible degradation in quality (i.e. noise wise). Har-Bal analyzes a recording, which gives a measure of the average and peak spectrum content (displayed graphically) from which any user can easily judge the spectral balance. Next, through a novel user interface, the software allows you to design a matching digital filter. This differs from conventional approaches in that you no longer need golden ears to judge the problem areas of a particular recording. The spectrum measurement provides you with an accurate indication of any problems in the recording. Har-Bal International is the first company to address the classes of frequencies that have proven to be troublesome to the human body. Frequencies felt in the body, i.e., low frequencies, with high amplitudes and throbbing, pulsing envelopes can make listeners sick to their stomach...so the expression goes. There definitely seems to some connection with the corrected resonant frequencies of a song that has been harmonically balanced as opposed to mastering.

For an undetermined period of time, a restricted version of Har-Bal can be downloaded at www.har-bal.com. You will no longer need to test your mastered CD in cars, boom boxes, walkmans, etc. The software uses an 8192-point linear phase FIR filter whose characteristics are designed to match and compensate for the average spectrum as closely as possible.

The degree to which you can boost and cut a particular region is essentially unlimited. Har-Bal International has proven that by coupling spectrum analysis with linear phase digital filtering, Har-Bal provides a powerful, yet functionally simple means of re-adjusting the spectral balance of sound recordings…be they original new masters or re-masters of existing works.

Har-Bal International is currently working on a plug-in version for individual tracks. Har-Bal has definitely taken the pain out of mastering music and will prove to be a necessary tool in any producer or engineer’s studio. Har-Bal International may very well be the next Microsoft of the music industry. Their product really works!

Prove It

If this product will work, I'll make you a ton of money in sales.

Re: Worlds First Visual Mastering System

I've tried the demo version (8bit playback, no output). This tool is amazing! I've used it on a few of my band's tracks that i had already mastered using Wavelab and some excellent Waves plug-ins. The EQ part of the mastering process is always very tricky...you need a good monitoring system and some very good ears.

This software tell you exactly where you went wrong. It's great to do the final polishing and get rid of those nasty peaks and dips and especially to get a consistent overall tonal balance from song to song. It doesn't do the job for you but, it definitely puts you on the right path. And for $95, it save you lots of hours of trial and error.

Re: Worlds First Visual Mastering System

For a limited time only Har-Bal can be purchased for the special introductory price of $95.00.

Re: Worlds First Visual Mastering System

Although i'm interested in some ways, you can't beat a proper mastering engineer in their mastering suite... and that's a fact, jack.. :-)

Re: Worlds First Visual Mastering System

Their software is only 95.00.

Re: Worlds First Visual Mastering System

It will be a good tool to assist mastering engineers.

Re: Worlds First Visual Mastering System

This software is the bomb. I can't believe this. My trakks sound great!!!!

how to repair .ra files

Hi, Does anyone knows of any program that will repair corrupted.ra files? Thanks.

Re: how to repair .ra files

http://www.mp3machine.com/software/AshampooAudCent/ might be able to do it, as it fixes corrupt files. But I don't know whether it will deal with a RA.

Magix v2000 problem, how do you get all tracks on one file!?!?

Hey there, I was wondering if anyone knew how to save all the tracks to one file so I can burn my songs to CD, I've worked a long time with this program and its getting increasingly frustrating. Any feedback would help, I have a deadline I must meet!

Help! I don't know the title or artist of this song.

Here are the lyrics.
It's difficult to say goodbye, after only one life; and rain will fall down, replenishing all of our broken dreams. And there's been a tree that's withering, will bloom again. Would you believe? Chorus: Goodbye, Goodbye, walk away, it's time to say goodbye. Goodbye, Goodbye, walk away, it's hard to say goodbye.
Any help with this would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

your kiss might kill me
so wont you kill me
so i die happy

Re: Help! I don't know the title or artist of this song.

Does anyone know who sings this song or what its called one of the lines is:

somebody loves you and you just cant make it stop

Re: Help! I don't know the title or artist of this song.

There are two songs that I know some of the lyrics, but unfortunately don't know the title of the song nor who they are sung by! I do know however that both songs were used on Baywatch in the Baywatch Hawaii series:

#1: THIS IS FROM THE EPISODE WHERE JASON'S GIRLFRIEND AT THE TIME LEAVES HAWAII AND GOES BACK TO LOS ANGELES... THE LYRICS ARE:

So dear to me, always keep me calm...
be beside you... can't take my eyes of you, nothing to be said you send messages to my head.

#2: THIS SONG IS FROM THE EPISODE WHERE NICK DIES AND ALLI IS SITTING ALONG MOURNING HIS DEATH... THE LYRICS ARE:
I wanna get the chance... this is a fairy tail dream come true
fantasies come true... i want to drown right now in the deep blue sea with you

If any one could help it would greatly appreciated!! Also, if anyone knows the lyrics and titles of the songs from the movie "Out of Sync" (AKA "Lip Service") Starring Kari Wuhrer and Gail O'Grady. Or even the name of the voice behind Gail O'Grady's character, "Maggie" in the movie!

Thanks!! :-)
