Re: want to start

: I am jazz pianist who has no idea of computer and any software stuff. Want some help to get started in composing with computers and whatever is needed. What kind of hardware and software should I get. I am in Bangkok and it's quite difficult. Please help !!!!

Don't know how well you know Bangkok, but as for software, you will find a lot of audio recording software at Pantip Plaza (near the world trade centre)at about 120 baht a disk. Cakewalk is supposed to be one of the best names - I don't know much about it myself - hope this is of some help.

Re: want to start

Jazz pianist in Bankok, coolll.....

You need to be more specific with how much money you've got. If it's a pitance then you could find yourself with an Atari ST, if it's no object then you could have a G4 Macintosh running Logic Audio. Either would allow you to record from and play back to a Midi Keyboard. If I was a good pianist, I would spend money on the Keyboard and then supplement it with Midi sound modules. You may get cheesed off with the key action on most synths if you are used to a proper piano, it's important you feel comfortable with the imput device (as it were...)

Give more information about what your trying to acheive and how much you have to spend to allow other's to be able to help better.

If You Have an Old PC (With a creative SoundBlaster 16/32/64 ) www.Digitalaudioinnovation.com has S/W which will
allow you to do this in the Demo Version but wont let you save the samples afterwards. However this S/W is old so you could probually buy it for next to nothing !

Re: Does a real time software sampler exist? HELP HELP!

Try Softcore on this website, all it is, is a Wave pitch Sampler and you can use the MIDI Keyboard to trigger all the pitches

check out gigasampler

Please.....Help with converting wav file into numeric data file.

I was wondering if there is a program out there that converts wav file information into numeric information.

The numeric information needs to be in columns (to be imported into a spreasheet and graphed).

Thanks,

Mike

Beatnik Player

I recently downloaded the Beatnik midi player because of a cd-rom problem. I later uninstalled Beatnik and reinstalled Voyetra's Midi Orchestrator Plus with a new cd-rom. The problem is that after uninstalling beatnik there is something left of it that prevents Orchestrator plus from loading when playing a midi from a website. What might be left and how do I delete it?

There are 2 ways - you can plug your Atari ST into
your PC and record them (<a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/wwwboard/messages/33864.html">see this post</a>) or you
can export your sequences as a MIDI file and save
them onto a 720k IBM formatted disk - your ST can
write to these disks and your PC can read the MIDI
file off them.

Alf.

Midi Lead

I've done this once but to a Macintosh althought that doesn't make the difference. I assume you still have the AtariST? they may be cool ways to do this but this'll work and it does take too long...

Plug Midi out of the ST into Midi in of the PC.

Set up the midi tracks on the PC the same as the ST and set them to record.

Press Record on PC, play on ST.

AtariSt's can read PC disks as well so you could save the Song on the ST as a .MID and then load it up on the PC. The problem is the Double Density diskdrive on the ST wont read the PC formatted disks as they are HD 1.44 I don't know windows very well but i'm sure you can format a disk 720k, maybe in DOS. If not, you can do it on the ST but I think you have to run some software as I don't remember the OS having the ability built in...

Good Luck

Steve...

Re: Midi Lead

I have shed loads of old atari disks full of midi files, but no atari! Any suggestions how I can play the old files on a PC/Mac?

Low trim filter

I need a device, software or hardware that will trim/erase all signals BELOW a preset level. Please help

High Pass Filter....

I know I shouldn't be abusing the shareware, but I use Goldwave cuz you get so much leeway on the shareware version.

It isn't realtime, but Goldwave will let you run a programmable ffilter over any wav file AND SAVE.

If you need more control, try using a free VST plug -in from Dave Brown enterprises and use it in Audiomulch.

Get to DAve at http://www.dbrown.force9.co.uk/index.html

and audiomulch is available on this (Hitsquad) site.

High Pass Filter

What you want it a high pass filter (HPF...) you may have come across them on a mixing desk before beside Low pass filter (LPF...)

High pass allows all the frequencies above a point set to pass and filters off everything below, (almost...). If you have any audio editing software or equalisers then you will probably find the facility in there somewhere. If not then you will have to say what platform you are using so that people can recommend something...

Why do you want to do this if you dont mind me asking??

Cheers

Steve

Re: High Pass Filter

could u pls give me some simple HPF used in finding out the cycles ,which are widely used in trading of shares, since i am a student of Finance major in MBA i am interested in it.

MP3 on a 68K Mac

Hi,

Can anyone out there tell me if mp3s can be played on
a 040 68k Mac? I will be grateful for an answer

Thanks a Million!

Re: MP3 on a 68K Mac

I suspect it might not be up for it although I would go searching for MP3 software and specify 68k in the search.

Try this...

http://download.cnet.com/downloads/1,10150,0-10005-103-0-1-7,00.html?tag=st%2Edl%2E10005%2Esbsr&qt=mp3+68k&cn=&ca=10005

Sorry, it's a bit long but I think there are somethings there that may help...

Cheers

Steve

1 TRACK MIDI FILE (w/ several instruments) TO MUSICAL SCORE WITH

I have Cakewalk 5.1. When I converted a .cda to a .wav file. Then the ,wav file to a midi file, which made the midi file 1-track. So when I looked at the the staff every instrument was on 1 stave playing into a piano sound. How do I get the original instruments seperated into their own stave of music with their respective notes or what program(s) to I use?

Re: 1 TRACK MIDI FILE (w/ several instruments) TO MUSICAL SCORE

I am not all that familiar with Cakewalk but you need to know that there are two types of standard midi files. TYPE 0, places all of you informatin on one track. Type 1 will place oyur information on seperate tracks. Good luck.

Timbalnd beats

Does anyone know what type of equipment Timbaland uses?

Re: Timbalnd beats

Well I don't know Timberland, but I do like as well as study his music - I also produce music my self. From hearing his sound I suspect he uses a Korg Trinity - I have actually heard some of his sounds from the Trinity, he will be definately be using an akai sampler.. may be an MPC... er a bass rack unit like the novation, but his sound is based alot around samples so if your looking for his type of sound make sure you got a tight Akai sampler and software to manipulate samples... hope that is helpful - peace out...
