not playing audio cds

perhaps there is a simple answer to this problem-my computer will not play audio cds through any music player-the standard windows, CDMax, Real Jukebox, Winamp-it can correctly read the songs on a cd and their length but it interprets each song as being only 44 bytes and plays without sound-any ideas? Thanks.

That other guy was all over the place:

Let's try some of these:

1. right-click the cd-drive icon in My Computer. Select PLAY
2. open the Programs>accessories>multimedia>volume control from your windows start menu.
Unclick all the check marks (mutes).
Select Options>Properties.
make a checkmark in all devices listed. If all devices were not previously checked, you will have to click OK now and remove all mute marks in this section. Once done, go back into Options/Properties and move to the next step.
click whatever play/recording option is not selected (if play is selected, click recording; etc)
add more checkmarks.
click OK at the bottom.
remove all mute check marks.
Exit the control panel.

Note, this panel gives you quite a bit of control over recording an device levels, and is linked to the internal volume controls of most programs.
(ie a change in them changes this panel)

bye.

Re: That other guy was all over the place:

I wasn't way off, man..
many people have had that problem, and Winamp crashing when trying to play CD's.. I usually skip the volume control scenario, because most peoole know about that.

Re: not playing audio cds

The files you are seeing that are 44 Bytes are probably the .cda files, they don't mean much of anything.. what about cdplayer? it's part of the windows system. You should not drag the 44 byte cda files into your player, that doens't usually work.

Guide for Cubasis VST 3.7

Does anyonew know of a site that has a downloadable guide to using the above package I am new to this but have used other music creation software such as Acid and Ejay (Ejay being a simple tool I know), it looks really good and I just need a get started guide,

not working with my soundcard

i get the error message ff7-5-000c[4] and it says that either my soundcard dosent support fullduplex which it does or there is possibly a conflict with another application how can i fix this problem or what can i try?? could the cakewalk or the cooledit be conflicting. but they nevert run at the same time???

Re: not working with my soundcard

I GET THE ERROR MESSAGE MMSYSTEM032 IS NOT TRANSLATED OR SUPPORTED AND EVERYTIME I TRY TO GO TO MY MUSICMATCH JUKEBOX IT SAY THAT. AND WHEN I GO TO MY WINDOWS MEDIA IT SAYS MY SOUNDCARD MAY BE IN USE. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO! HELP!!!

Hey there Sports fan

This is how you cheat at duplex. this works on half-duplex cards too.
Solve all problem now. Happy smiley flashy solution work big time huh.

Assign different driver for each function (play and record) in recording program. The old edit>preferences>etc.
That way, the same driver won't have to be used simultaneously for two things.

Post if no worky.

Re: not working with my soundcard

I don't know that error specifically, but probably you don't have Full-Duplex enabled. If it IS enabled, then you probably have a Creative Labs card.. if t is, then you have to have a delay for recording and playback to start.. that is, have the soundcard start recording after playback starts.

how do i insert a wav file in my site? what's the html code?

: i'm using cakewalk 9 and my soundcard is creative awe64

Let's get fonky

.MID files can't support digital audio. Other file formats are used, such as the immortal .sng and the the proprietary cakewalk/cubase/logic formats.

If you want to distribute music with digital audio, just don't try to distribute it as a .mid file. It doesn't work. Pick another file format.

Re: how do i insert a wav file into a midi file or record a guit

Cakewalk has support for adio files, you should be able to drop it in no rpoblem, as long as it is a wav file.

sound card to hard drive or CD_RW recording

I would like to be able to use the sound card line input to record on my cd-rw or to my hard drive. is there software out there that enables this? Hardware needed?

You need software too.

It will cost you money.

Before you spend any money, realize that it will sound like crap unless you work hard and invest in a lot of pro gear. In the meantime, experiment with as many free software programs as possible until you know what tools you need.
This may take years.

look in the software section of this website for:
audio editors (for recording and editing)
multitrack
CD-burning

talk to your friends. See what they use.

Note: noise can be cut down at the source by using balanced gear, recording through a analog/digital converter which is hooked to your computer by a LONG cord, shielding your outlet transformer, not using dimmers in your room of work, etc. Otherwise, you get what you get.
Do some reading. Learn what you can, and don't be suprised if the product sucks. Good luck.

buy yourself a copy of Goldwave Editor software

Goldwave does a very nice job in the following areas:
Equalization
Noise reduction
Effects

It's very good software for beginners and advanced
users.

I recommend it highly.

Re: sound card to hard drive or CD_RW recording

You need the following special hardware:
1 Soundcard
1 CD-R/RW
1 Sound output :I.E CD, or tae deck or microphone
1 Cable to connect the CD or tape to the soundcard

Record it as a wav file, and burn to a CD in audio format

Sonic Foundry Audio Editor Problem

[The body of this post has been reconstituted from replies so it may differ from what was originally written.]

Hi Crew - When trying to fix up a track that I've voice recorded I get an error message to say that there's "no audio editor specified in your preferences". Can anyone help ?

sounds like you have to go to some sort of options menu and select your preferred audio editing software application that you have installed on your machine. If you dont have an audio editing software , you cannot specify one, ie: you cannot edit! what software are you using?

Editing of two or more wave files in synchronism

I have so far failed to find any Wave editor which
performs even the most basic edit functions on a number
of Wave files in synchronism - edit of multitrack.
When I spent time in recording studios many years
ago, that was a bog-standard facility with multitrack
tape, even if it had to be done with a razorblade!
Surely there is some software somewhere? If the
biggies - CoolEdit etc., don't seem to do it, am I
missing something? Or is there any software which
actually does it that I don't know about? I've
downloaded a great many editors which don't.

Re: Editing of two or more wave files in synchronism

if you buy the sudio plugin for cool edit 2000 it will
allow you to record four tracks at once. if you want any
more tracks than that you are shit out of luck
uless you want to spend 300+ dollars.

YOU MUST CHECK OUT THIS BRAND NEW PLUG-IN

Hi

Try this brand new beta version demo of a guitar amp simulator plug-in called ReValver.............IT IS AWESOME!
And before you ask....no, I'm not linked to the company.
I came across it recently and was absolutely bowled over with it.
Many SBLive users like myself who don't play guitar have to rely on soundfonts along with effects to simulate a guitar sound. And while it's true, there are one or two FX plug-ins around such as Cakewalk's Amp Sim etc...which you can beef up your guitar sound, I have yet to come across one better than 'ReValver'.
Even though it's a demo, it's definitely worth a try.
They give you Pre Amps, Power Amps, Speakers and effects units to mount in a virtual rack, combining them as you please or using their preset setups. It's GREAT FUN !
Just convert a 'clean guitar or bass' soundfont to Audio and process it with this proggie and you'll be hooked like I was.
Here's the link: http://www.alienconnections.com/

Have fun!!
