SBAWE64 hiss in CUBASE! Help!

[The body of this post has been lost]

Re: SBAWE64 hiss in CUBASE! Help!

I use a SB32AWE :( and I get the same thing when cubase is using the MME driver.
But, after recording I switch to the DirectX driver, and all recordings are crystal clear.
The reason is simple, DirectX "mode" doesn't support recording, hence your soundcard is not used full duplex and your 16 bit DAC is used for playback.
MME "mode" supports full duplex and uses your 16 bit DAC for recording and 8 bit for playback.
So basically the monitoring of the recording sucks beyond belief, but the recording itself is allright, provided you don't record any wave output from your soundblaster.

Re: SBAWE64 hiss in CUBASE! Help!

Maybe the soundcard is sending the tracks in with volume at full and Cubase is then lowering them with full hiss.
Or maybe the record volume in soundcard is too low and Cubase is amping it.

Make both volumes in the middle/upper area.

Then again, it's most likely the fact that you are using old-consumer grade goods. If your input is too high, you are getting digital clipping. (soundwave extends beyond normal bounds and is flattening at top).
Record to a high quality tape deck first. Overloading a tapedeck will increase its image (saturation) without introducing the same static. As well, it will set a constant volume (max). Then record to computer. Since the volume is constant or less than max, you can prevent digital clipping.

If the problem is noise, increase the space between your computer and AC transformers (big black boxes on the end of power cords). Point your amplifier in a different drection. Don't plug a microphone directly into the computer.

enough for now.

HOW DO I SAVE MY MIDI INFO FROM ME SYNTH TO MY CUBASE PROJECT

How 2 Create & Record A Mix Compilation Then Burn To CD

Forgive the newbie but how do I mix two tracks on My PC (useing MP3000f at the moment) and record these in a format that I can later mix into other tracks and then burn everything onto CD - and all of this for free of course!

N-Tracks I guess.

I'm pretty sure n-tracks will give you enough functionality for that.

Or no, wait, try Multiquence. Yeah, both of those.

imac+cubase=headache.

Thinking that I was actually as clever as I
first thought, I foolishly bought a new imac
(wait for it...) and popped cubase (3.5.2 ?) into it.
Unfortunately it crashes every time I try to run it.
This has made me very upset indeed. Has anyone
actually got these two to work together?
please help me. jay

iMac Audio...

It will work nicely after an update for Os9 I think or an update to Cubase. My friend uses it and it's wickedly fast on his iMac... Persevere....

Pitch Creator Shareware?

Luke Slater mentioned in an interview for Future
Music Magazine that he has been using a Shareware
program (for Mac) that can create pitch in any sample.
For example, a sample of a train going down the track
could be made into a pitched sound rather than just
rhythmic noise. I imagine the program would work by
filtering the sound in such a way as to leave a harmonic
overtone series.

Does anyone know of such a program (for Mac or PC)?
Please eamil me. Thanks.

Re: Pitch Creator Shareware?

AnalogX makes such a program.

N E E D: SB live driver for _plain_ dos

Hi!

I'm in desperate need for the Sb Live 1024 Player driver for DOS.

I already have SBEINIT.COM and DEFAULT.ECW but am still missing ctsyn.ini. The Soundblaster 1024 PCI installation routine does not create it and, I don't know the format in which the entries are made.

If anyone has a working ctsyn.ini or even a complete dos boot disk with all soundblasters (in case of problems due to the german language version of sbeinit.com), please send me an email.

pc or mac

Okay, I'm just looking for some opininons before I go lay down a couple grand on a system...Mac or PC for digital audio mastering/production? (And why?)

Also...anyone doing any of this stuff using laptops?

Thanks!

Re: pc or mac

PC.

Because the new product cycle time is so short and exponential. Anything possible is currently being created by some guy in his basement.

I guess it depends on how much money to burn.

Oh, here are the customary links, so that you don't just go and buy any old computer (this is the wrong choice).

www.faqsystems.com
www.wavedigital.com

Don't even think that your local Future Shop can give you anything anywhere what you need for really producing music. And if you are coming to THIS forum and asking the PC/MAC question, you really have a lot to learn before buying a computer.
And don't even think about buying something from Creative Labs.

Re: pc or mac

I have had the experience with both systems.

I found the apple mac the best of the two. with PC
most of them have micro$oft windows, and to be honest
this is a pants system, it is so unstable I had my pc
crash when I was doing my music cause work and lost the lot.
at college I have been using the apple mac and for music it is a much
better system. but the new Imac (the one all in the monitor.) does not have the
same capabilitys as the one with the seperate tower (if this is wrong I will kill brian)

but over all I find the mac a much better way at handeling music in genaral.

Re: pc or mac

There are benefits for both systems. The amount of choices of software hardware for either system is a kind of redundant argument. The reality of it is is that you have a good choice for either system of software and hardware. Your not going to buy all of the offerings for either system so how much of it is available is not the point, just that you get offered what you need and it's all there for either system.

I must confess, I have never seen a PC (microsoft) in a professional studio ever. The Macs are considered more reliable by professionals. My friend has had a Macintosh G3/266 running 24 tracks in his studio and claims it has never crashed. It's a proven Professional audio computer.

Cheers

Re: pc or mac

Overall, there is more software ad hardware available for PC than Mac..

Laptops are ok, but they aren't as upgadeable.. if it's a good one to begin with, then you can certainly use it for mixing, but mastering is a bit different.. the soundcards in portable computers anren't so great....

converting music to notes

Is there any music program out there that can let me take a song and covert it to a visible spreadsheet of notes so that I can play it on a musical instrument?

Or, is there a program that can take the melody of a tune and reconstruct it so that the tune can now be heard as an instrumental?

Well there is a program called WIDI which says it
can do it but I haven't used it and I have my doubts
than any program can yet.
