Re: How to download streaming videos

I used a similar technique to download audio files, but I haven't tried it on video. The original link was to a .ram file which I downloaded. I opened the .ram file in a text editor (as previously mentioned in this group) and extracted the internet link to the .ra file. This link started with pnm:// but when I changed it to http:// the link worked and I when I placed in the address bar, RealPlayer was opened and the file started playing. The next step was to go into the File Types tab of Folder Options (PC) and delete the file type for .ra. This time when I placed the http:// link in the address bar, the browser did not recognize this "unknown" file type and gave me the normal prompt of whether to open it from its current location or save the file. I saved the file. The End.

Re: Can I convert .ram files to .mp3 (or .wav)

From my peronal experience, there is not necisarily a strict convention to their file extensions, I've seen
.rm
.ra
.ram
and more...
some are links, some are audio files, and some are video.. as for a video de-compressor, I haven't seen one, but check www.real.com
if that doesn't work, contact the people who made the video and see if you van get an MPg version, or whatever.

Re: Help

If you get Adaptec Easy CD Creator it has a wizard which walks you through the whole process
what you do is have all teh songs you want to put on the CD in WAV format. you select "Audio CD" for the type of CD you want to make. then, you simply drag the wav files into the program.

Good enuff mic for my remixin' adventures

I am a semi pro club dj, background on production and pseudo musician (I also make a mean spaghetti). Anyway, recently I found just the baddest virtual remixing studio software. Yep! I am making music using the Mixman Studio Pro. Of corse now I am hurrying trying to updatye my platforms, memory and all so I can do justice to my future remixing endeavours. I need to find a good kind of mic that is both sharp and dependable for the recording studio part of my Mixman. You can actually get wav files and in-house recorded tracks and add to a Dance/House/Trance/latin/Rock whatever mix you are into. So in essence I need a mic that will work well. Any recommendations? Nothing too specific about the mic itself, just a mic that is used for regular PC needs, 56k connection and stuff. Help me out and I'll name a mix after...Wait who are you?

Re: Good enuff mic for my remixin' adventures

Microphones

Hi,

Microphone recommendations can be quite tricky without lots of information. You say your need a microphone for the 'Studio' part of you recording but i'm not sure if you might want to take the microphone for use live. If you do then you'll want a 'Dynamic' microphone. If it's just for studio stuff then 'Condensor' microphones provide better quality reproduction but require a 48volt DC supply to work (which is often provided on even the cheaper end of the mixer market)

You should also give some idea of how much money you want to spend which will narrow things down a bit. Give us a ballpark amount you wish to spend and then i'll try and be a bit more helpful.

Cheers

Steve

anyone know of recycle simalar program thats compatible with Aka

Converting multiple Cakewalk 8 tracks to stereo master mix? How

How does one convert multiple cakewalk 8 tracks to a stereo mixed-down master to be used by either Sound Forge or Acid?

Re: Converting multiple Cakewalk 8 tracks to stereo master mix?

Converting Cubase .arr into mid or midi files without using cuba

I do not have cubase anymore but need to convert .arr into midi or mid files, how do I do this?

how do you tape internet radio

I do not have recordable cd on my pc (I do have a zip drive if that helps). How can I feed the audio of an internet radio station to a cassette player?
Thanks

Re: how do you tape internet radio

You need a Y-cable, on one end will be a 1/8 inch mini plug, like a headphone connector. it goes into the soundcards output.

the other end should be 2 RCA connectors to go into the input of the tape deck, or whatever connectors your uses.

How to get vst instruments to work in cubase

i have the dr002 that fxpansion gave away. i have it loaded into the arrange window in Cubase, selected it, and assigned a wav to a channel. for some reason, i'm not getting any sound. shouldn't i be able to just strike my controller and have it sound?
help.

i'm using a wavecenter/pci witht he asio driver.

Re: How to get vst instruments to work in cubase

I believe that the fxpansion stuff is ASIO 2 MIDI controlled.

That means that you have to set a MIDI track as the input for the VST instrument.

Just assign any existing drum track as the input, and the dr-002 will output according to the pads you have loaded into it.

I think....

Cubase- Great Latency Problems

Hello,
i have just started to use cubase vst 3.7 with my
TB Montego Home Studio II card. I decreased the audio
device buffer (direct x) to value of about 1500 so that the vst
instruments sounds proberly. But I am having big latency
problems - about 104 ms. It is impossible to proberly
with the keyboard.
I hace a PIII, much RAM, what else can I do to reduce
the latency? Is it worth to buy a better Soundcard?

Thank you,
Olli.

Re: Cubase- Great Latency Problems

hi
i think everyone must get latency problems like this unlfess theve got pro hardware.

for intell 600MHz+256MB RAM+cubase vst+creative labs platinum live+ASIO drivers = at best 43mS latency (or so cubase setup reports, although it sounds a lot longer.)

if anyone can do better with this sort of configuration i'd be very grateful if you could tell me how.

turning off the cubase audio channel monitors on the recording track and monitoring instead the pc-midi-audio-out helps.

another solution i have found to date uses an external mixer-pslitter configuration. details are at http://www.sospubs.co.uk/sos/aug99/articles/zerolatency.htm

any more info on this subject welsome.

You've stumbled upon Cubase's major drawback, i.e. the latency.
104 ms is actually very good for Cubase :(
There's a way around the problem: record the tracks for VST instruments using your soundcard's MIDI synth, this way you'll be playing the notes quite happilly in realtime, then assign the tracks to VST instruments. When you play the tracks the latency will be corrected by Cubase, so there's no problem on playback.
DO NOT buy another soundcard, it will set you back a lot of money, but it won't solve the problem.
VST instruments just aren't realtime synthesizers ....

Re: Cubase- Great Latency Problems

Yes, your soundcard should be ASIO/ASIO2 or directX compatible. Try updating your directX drivers and using the directX drivers as the sound drivers for Cubase.

Microsoft cranked out directX 7.0 recently. It's free.

Momentary Stutter While Recording With Sound Forge 4.5

I am currently trying to record old LPS on to my hard disk with Sound Forge 4.5. When I play back the recorded wave file I get an occasional Stutter. My Machine is confiqured as follows: AMD KIII-450, VIA MVP3 chipset, 384 MB SDRAM, 14.4 GB 7200 rpm IBM ultra 33 HDD, Windows98se, Lexicon Core 32 soundcard. Sound Forge suggested reloading the soundcard drivers which I did. Lexicon suggested playing with the wave file preferences in sound forge (pre-load settings and buffer settings) which I also did. I am still getting the momentary stutter occasionally in the recorded wave file. Anybody got any suggestions? Any help or solutions will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Momentary Stutter While Recording With Sound Forge 4.5

: Dear Stutter: I have been using SF for over three years in heavy traffic postproduction. The only time I have ever had your described problem is when 1) The original source material (unbeknownst to me)had minor variations in dynamics which were picked up erractically by SF; and 2)when the headroom was pushed to the very limit causing a repeated 'read' by SF (which is not capable of such a thing. I know you are frustrated. Please let me know if you discovery the precise problem. I would be curious as to the dynamic nature of your source material. What is it?

The source material that I'm trying to record is salsa music from LP's. The turntable inputs are being run thru a Mackie 1202-VLZ PRO mixer into the Lexicon LDI-12T interface of the Lexicon Core 32 soundcard. The stuttering is very short affecting 1 BPM, happens randomly, sometimes once or twice during the recording of an individual song.
I am starting to think that the McFee Virus Scan that is inactive but present in the machine might have something to do with the problem. Unless it's a wrong setting or something else. I'm totally stumped and stuck.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Momentary Stutter While Recording With Sound Forge 4.5

Yes I have the same problem, but the only thing that I can think of that I have changed since this problem became apparent is a bigger/faster hard drive! the old slower one works ok! strange eh?

Trouble with AXS 2.03 (regged) / SBlive

I've ran into some trouble with my SBlive and AXS 2.03

After playing a few patterns there is a sudden digital distortion on the audio output. I've not experienced this with AXS 2.03 and other soundcards from Creative (I've tried AXS with SB16 and AWE32 Gold before) so I figured it has something to do with SBlive.

There is nothing in particular that seems to trigger the distortion (first I thought that lower frequences caused this); the moment when the distortion starts is different every time. It seems that it is unrelated to what's going on in the song that's playing. I've already tried changing the settings in the axs.ini but so far with no result.

Any ideas/similar experiences? Is there even anyone out there who's using AXS 2.03 with SBlive?

Re: Trouble with AXS 2.03 (regged) / SBlive

Yeah, I had the same problem. I just turned down the volume in my sblive mixer (I think it was either the 'wave' or the master volume, can't remember). It seemed to work. I can't get midi to work with AXS. It's a real bummer, cos the synth sounds great. I'm using a midiman portman pcs (serial) interface. Any suggestions?
