Hello Ms. Kennedy, I hope I can help.

There are so many options to choose from in the audio world that there is no right or wrong path to follow. I am not sure what "papapopalung" is talking about because there are virtually tonnes (digital tonnes :]) of low-budget hardware/software options to choose from.

I would be happy to give you more information via email, since I only pass by here occationally. My email address is cilanntrus@zeroworks.org if you would like to reach me.

Zeroworks is a computer audio website that I work for and you can probably find some good information there as well.

Hope to talk to you soon,

Cilanntrus

Re: Help for beginner please! *text*

it depends on what type of music you are doing. if you want to record a lot of live stuff (vocals, instruments, orwhat), there are cards for that. some cards have whacking synths, some have lost of sample ram. no help realy.

BUT IF YOU ARE GOING THE PC ROUTE< THE SOFTWARE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT> UNLESS YOU HAVE £1000's OF software your computer isn't worth sheeeit!

Cubase: External devices vs. internal sound card

Controlling external devices work fine with Cubase,
except for one thing: The internal sound-card synths
seem to be in some kind of omni mode. Right-clicking
on the instrument column, only lists the two internal
"synths". How do I set up this properly? I want to configure
all of my external devices in the instrument column.

Need Mac Software to Burn MP3's....

I currently have Toast, and it burns mp3's but it burns them by the length of the song. I want a program that would burn mp3's by the file size. Thanks for your help.

Re: Need Mac Software to Burn MP3's....

Huh? I'm not sure what you mean... The file size is dictated by the original size of the source material. Choices of quality for the MP3 and stereo/mono selection will vary the size of the resulting MP3. What are you trying to acheive?

Voice effects processor...

I am looking for a voice effects processor or software that can make your voice have a digital\electro voice sound to it... bands such as Zapp & Roger, 'Nsync, Cher and Britney Spears have all used this effect.... any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Hello SP.

The tool you are looking for is called a Vocoder. These programs/plugins tend to be quite expenisve (for good quality ones anyway), but there are some cheap/free ones around as well.

Here are some links:

Zerius Vocoder - a freeware command line (DOS) vocoder. http://heatdeath.org/Code/Vocoder

Cyclonix Vocoder - a stand-alone (not a plugin) vocoder that costs about $50. http://www.cim.mcgill.ca/~clark/cylonix.html

FXpansion's Robotik Vocoder (great!) - at $30 this VST/DirectX plugin is killer. http://www.fxpansion.com/index1.html

I also work for a computer audio website (http://zeroworks.org). We have samples, tutorials, interviews and whatnot, and we are adding new stuff all the time.

I hope this helps.

Need help in making arrangments for Tejano Band

I'm a saxaphone player. I make arrangments for several bands including the one I play with. Band has(4 horns (alto sax, trunpet, tronbone, tenor), guitar, base, organ, drums, and two vocals. I have a computer and looking for a real friendly program that I can use to compose, arrange, edit, play, and print when it sounds right for use with band. The only program I have seen is a four part harmony program but it has no tutorial for assistance. I can provide unique arrangements in return for help. Thanks

Cakewalk: Recording Guitar

Hi, I have Cakewalk 9.0 but I'm having problems recording my guitar. My guitar is plugged into my soundcard and it sounds fine through my speakers. The problem is that I don't hear anything when I playback a recording. Sometimes if I turn my speakers to 9 or 10, I can barely (I mean barely) hear the guitar. Can someone help me please?

Re: Cakewalk: Recording Guitar

plug your guitar into the ini socket or the mic imput not knowing your sound card type

try pluging the guitar into the amp then record with the mic after setting the vol and Db boost

File name converter?

Is there a program that will automatically take out those annoying underscores in filenames and replace them with spaces, etc.? Just curious.

Thanks,
Brian

Re: File name converter?

There are some good freee ones too, I think.. but another okay one is Rename it. However, you can simply single click the song, and rename it manually easily enough, I find.. but then, if you ahve 100 MP3's to rename, it can be annoyiong :)

Hello Brian.

Although I am against Get Paid to Surf schemes, I thought I would answer your question anyway because someone else could probably use this info as well.

I have used several file renaming programs and NameWiz is by far the best (http://SoftByteLabs.com). You should check out the demo; the full version is only $20.

By the way, I did _not_ click on your fetid and scheming link.

Hi
You can order it at www.madtracker.org. Your mad tracker have an option called "Export->wave", and you cant push the button. If you order the Mad Tracker's "Professional registration" for 40 € than you can did it!

Re: MT2 to wav

If you load the mt2 sample in madtracker, you should be able to either save it is an wav file, or save it as a Fasttracker xi, at which point you can use awave to do the conversion.

Re: MT2 to wav

I think the chap meanted the file format mt2, which is beeing used as a module extension e.g. blabla.XM

Does anyone know if there is any site which give away music video of bands such as Radiohead?

Rebirth w/Logic

How do I use Rebirth with Logic Gold 4.2.3 for PC? Is it possible?

Re: Rebirth w/Logic

The answer to this one after checking it out a bit is:
for PC get Rebirth 2.01, which runs Rewire, and use the lateset version of Logic which supports Rewire.
That way you can select sections of Rebirth directly into audio tracks, e.g. 909 into audio track 1, and use
Logic's effets and plugins with it.

Re-wire.

I have been thinking about doing the same thing on my Macintosh. I used both programs and fancy syncing them up together so hopefully I can press play in Logic and Re-Birth starts playing in time. My friend does it on his Mac using Cubase VST, wiring into two Logic Mixer inputs using 'Re-wire'. I'm still trying to establish Logics compatibility with Re-wire at the moment but I think it's the answer. Sorry I can't be more help at this point.

Steve...

Re: Rebirth w/Logic

Well, what I have done with other apps and rebirth is set your mixer to record from wave and start recording on Logic. Then play what you want to record in rebirth. This might depend on what sound card you have, but I know it works with the SBLive.

Good Luck

real time effects using CD ROM as input

Can any one recommend the best software to use if you want to add efects like flange, reverb and echo in REAL TIME from a CD ROM niput source. I see lots of editing tools, like CoolEdit, that let you do this on saved files, but is there anything that lets you do it real time???

Re: real time effects using CD ROM as input

If you mean doing effects that are in real time, and are kept on the CD, you can't do it, but if you mean applying effects to teh output of a CD, with realtime chorus, reverb, etc... you can get some reallly nice effects, there are programs that do that, but not many, as that isn't a big market, really.. most of the ones I have worked with will only work with audio stored on your hard disk.

Yeah, I did mean applying affects to the output of a CD. You say there isnt that many programs - can you give me some names and/or URLs???
Thanks

Re: real time effects using CD ROM as input

I haven't had much need to work with Live effects, on PC, however, I just checked out this audiomulch program , and I reccomend it, I haven't tried it yet, but in theory, it looks really good!

MP3 to CDROM

I am looking for a decent ripper that I can use to put MP3's onto CDrom. If you can help, please send an e-mail to me. Thanks.....

Re: MP3 to CDROM

You have your terms mixed up a bit, a ripper is for copying tracks from a CD to your computer in wav or MP3 format. a burning program is what allows you to copy those songs or even non-musical data to a CD in audio format, or other formats. If you let us know which you mean, we'll be happy to let you know how.

Ram to WAV or MP3

Would someone who knows please tell me and the rest of the community if it is at all possible to convert .ram to .wav or .mp3 and how. Thanks!

Re: Ram to WAV or MP3

: Would someone who knows please tell me and the rest of the community if it is at all possible to convert .ram to .wav or .mp3 and how. Thanks!

Hello Dennis.

You can use a program called Ra2Wav to convert Real Audio files into wave files. This program is "okay" and it gets the job done, but it certainly doesn't get my 100% approval. Here is the link to the demo copy: ftp://ftp.2bsys.com/Ra2Wav/Ra2Wav2003demo.exe . It will insert a robotic voice that says "R-a-2-wave-Demo" every 15 seconds unless you pay $30 for the full version. That is no good.

Another option, which I think is much more worthwhile, is to purchase a program called Total Recorder. This program can record virtually any digital audio output from almost any other program. If it sounds complex, read their website for info (http://www.highcriteria.com/trinfo.htm). Total Recorder only costs $12 and you can use it for many things. I love it!

Soundforge and Cool Edit Pro both support Real Audio files too, if you already have on of them (they are too expensive to purchase soley for ra to wav conversion.

Hope that helps,

Cilanntrus
