Re: convert .rmx to .mp3 - help me please

Every one of my audio files were converted to rmx because the program I usually use stopped working; I had to use Real Player. I didn't know that rmx files SUCK. Now I have a very expensive Walkman that plays CDs and mp3s. I thought this was great, and made a huge disc, but they were ALL rmx files. Is there a program that will change them back, and if there is, where can I find it.

PC Based recording/Mastering software

Dear Sir;
Can you please send me info on the best or ideal DIGITAL MASTERING SOFTWARE I may be able to use for my PC based digital recording. (example t-racks is that an ideal software? ) considering the sampling bit/resolution and sampling rate. DAT Quality with of course expansion on the sound output. Thanks a lot !

Re: PC Based recording/Mastering software

Take a look at Steinbergs software, www.steinberg.net

As for format, software will support any sapling rate/bit rate, but if using a digital connection for DAT, your soundcard has to have an output with a compatible sampling rate. DAT is usually 44K or 48K, and, for example, the SPDIF on a Soundblaster Live! card is locked to 48Khz.

.WAV Files --> Audio CD Question

I've converted my MP3s to WAV files and want to burn them to a CD I can play on any machine (not just my computer). I'm using Adaptec Easy CD Creator. I'm choosing the "create audio cd" selection and am choosing the "close session" option for after the CD is created. This does create a CD that I can play back on my computer, but no other CD machine will recognize the CD. Can someone help? How do I burn a CD that another CD player will recognize and play?

Re: .WAV Files --> Audio CD Question

I can think of two possibilities right now:

1. You are using a CD-RW disc, most cdplayers can NOT read these, you must use a CD-R (Write Once)

2. More likely, you must drag all the songs in at once, before burning, if you burn one track, then try to burn another, it will NOT work, as once it finishes burning, the burner burns a 30 megabyte(+/- 3 second ) "barrier" and the CD's tend to not work in cd players , sometimes not even on a computer.

Re: .WAV Files --> Audio CD Question

Thanks for your feedback. Yes, it was the discs. I initially used a CD-RW disc (duh), then a relatively cheap CD-R disc. Today I went back to the store, shelled out a few more $$ for a better quality disc and voila, I can play the disc on all my CD players, even my 1st generation one (which kind of surprised me). Thanks again for your help.

: Sadly, with some cheaper CD players, that is true:

: "Since the reflection ratio of CD-R/CD-RW discs is a little bit lower than that of CD discs, the pickup may not be able to play some CD-R discs, depending on the condition of the discs and pickup."

: This is from Pioneer's site, in regards to a DVD player, but the same applies for cd players. ut a regualr CD next to a CD-r and hold it up to the light, the more light that gets through, the worse.

Re: .WAV Files --> Audio CD Question

I'm glad I could help, this goes to shoe though, that the CD medium is still not perfect, for sure, and that there are some factors which are important when you buy CD-r's.

Still, opinion is wide and varied in what kind are good. However, I have a friend who is a strict user of Maxell, and claims to NEVER have had a coaster... but I think it's a bit of a fish story..

Re: .WAV Files --> Audio CD Question

I get songs from mp3grandcentral.com and I'm a first time user so I'm confused. How come when I use CD-R disk and press burn it says successful burn but doesn't work when I put it in a cd player? And can you burn over stuff?

Re: .WAV Files --> Audio CD Question

I don't care about burning disk's right now I just want to downlode music, OK?

How to record guitar directly other than using DI box?

My digital multitracker without dedicated guitar input, how i record guitar directly( I mean without using mic) other than using DI box? Thank

Micing the Amp...

Like seth said, mic'ing the Amplifier is the standard procedure if you want to record the sound of the Amplifier. Most guitarist have chosen their Amp for the sound it gives and may expect that sound on the recording. The problem is to have a decent microphone that is capable of the sound pressure levels (SPL) of the Amplifiers speaker and able to reproduce the sound accurately. Most amplifiers have a "Line OUT" that is a line input for use with your MultiTrack or other line level input hardware. Note though that this line contains the characteristics of the amplifier circuitry but misses out on the nuiances of the speakers own sound. Headphone outputs are variable in volume and not comparable to a fixed line output. Damage to the input stage from an over amplified HeadPhone output is possible.

DI boxes should be owned in my opinion. Not only do they condition the guitar signal level for input at line level but they isolate the player electrically from the rest of the equipment. Playing live without a DI box has resulted in the death of some well known musicians. Although very unlikely, it's a precaution worth considering.

Cheers

Steve...

Re: How to record guitar directly other than using DI box?

There are only two ways to record- a direct box or a mic, period. It is possile to direcy out from your amp if it has a headphone our. There are onther options besides a true direct box, though. Most pedals or rack effects with amp modeling technology (Boss GT3/5, Rocktron Voodoo, etc.) all sound pretty decent direct in if you are not looking for a whole lot crunch. If you want a real big sound though, mic'ing is the only way to. Trust me, I've tried every direct method possible.

Re: How to record guitar directly other than using DI box?

plug it right in there if you can get enough gain, or use the line out on your amplifier. Another idea is one of those mini guitar amps with a headphone output. There are especially nice to have because they are great tone tools.

Live effects

Is there anyway that I can have effects put on voices in real time as I need it to do so on radio mic inputs for a play?

Live effects

: Is there anyway that I can have effects put on voices in real time as I need it to do so on radio mic inputs for a play?

Yes, you have to have a hardware FX unit and a mixing desk that you plug the microphones into. (You can do it other ways, but this is standard practice for live work). The general idea is that you use the 'auxillary sends' on your mixing desk to send some of the input audio information to the FX unit. The 'affected' output from the FX unit is fed back into the mixing desk so you can mix it back with the original 'dry' input audio... What equipment do you have for your play and i'll try and be more helpful...

Cheers

Steve.....

Re: Live effects

I know a fair bit about play productions and my experience says the simpler the better. Feed your mics into your mixer and send them on an effects send through a multieffects unit, or even simpler, guitar pedals. What board do you use and what effects do you want to use?

Conversion freeware?

I have two midi files I need to turn into CDA's. I don't mind using more than one program. (Ie. using one program to make the midi an MP3, then another to make the MP3 a CDA) But it has to be downloadable freeware, since I'm currently broke.

Re: Conversion freeware?

To convert Mid to wav, you can use either Wingroove or Timidity... Winamp might work also, but I haven't tried it. To put them on CD in CD Audio format, you need a burner program which supports CD Audio (Most, if not ALL do) when you select that you want to make an Audio CD, you drop those wav files in the window, and select burn, the max time for a standard CD is 74 minutes of audio. The files MUST be 44Khz Stereo.

CDA to WAV -

Converting CD Audio to a WAV is simple and there
are many free '<a href="/smm/win95/CD_RIPPERS/">CD Rippers</a>' out there that you can use to do this format

What if DPS12i compare to VS880EX-If same price?

Hi, I am looking for a good multitracker recently, I found that Akai's DPS12i and the Roland VS880EX with the prices of 740 and 749 pounds respectively. Of course, both of these machine do not including optional effect board, hence which one is the best buy?
In addition, both of these machine without a guitar dedicated input, how to record guitar directly other than using the DI box? Can I use the 'line out' of my Marshall guitar amp to plug to the multitracker as a alternative way instead of using DI box?Thank you.

Re: What if DPS12i compare to VS880EX-If same price?

For sound quality go for the dps12i all the way. If effects and a bit more flexibility in exchange for overall fidelity is your game, go for the 880ex. Either way they both are great machines and you WILL be happy with both. The 12i has a few effects, while the roland is oozing with them, making it more ideal for electronic music, while the 12i is better if your recording more vocals and live sound, where overall sound quality is prime.
Drew

Re: What if DPS12i compare to VS880EX-If same price?

Yes, you can use the line out of your amp into the multitracker. I cannot recommend either of these as I have no experience with either, but I do recommend you go computer based because it is cheaper, better and more powerful.

Good Luck
