Re: Anyone know anything about CD+G?

MTU's Disc Architect(tm) software for PC-Windows
copys individual songs from Karaoke CD+G discs
to the computer hard drive, then allows creating
a custom assembly to make a new disc. The
duplicate function copys an entire CD+G disc
and allows making multiple copies. Price is $195
from MTU. Our CD-Recorders are fully tested
to perform all CD+G operations correctly.

Our Kaper(tm) software allows mastering CD+G
songs. It is the definitive work for mastering.
Check it out at:

Re: Writing CD+G

Ok, I have read all of the posts here and the consenses seems to be that only certian CD drives will read CD+G. However, I have downloaded the Mac program mentioned in the response from boozie and it works! Additionally, it plays from both my internal CD drive on my PM7100/80AV and on my Yamaha CD recorder. This being the case, I am inclined to believe that CD+G compilations should be able to be read/burned from ANY drive, with the right software of course. Alas, I am not a programmer and don't have the knowledge to really explore this in depth but hopefully this will give this forum something to discuss.

I also am looking to make compilation CD+G on my mac, if anyone has any info or comments please e-mail me at QualleyIV@navix.net

Have software to make from scratch for sale(cd+g)

Re: Anyone know anything about CD+G?

I have cd+g author 3.0 and one-off for burning
along with the dongle(making your own graphics)

Here's how to Copy CD+G Discs!

[The body of this post has been reconstituted from replies so it may differ from what was originally written.]

To copy CD+G discs, you will need a CD-ROM/CDR drive
that will read and write the subcode channels (channels R thru W for you techies).
99.9% of the drives out there will not read these subcodes and only a small
handful of CDR's will write them.
If you are looking to buy a CDR burner, check out Goldenhawk's site for a list of
drives that will do both. GoldenHawk creates a program called CDRWin for reading
and writing disks. Their software is the best in my opinion and includes specific
options for reading and writing CD+G discs in the program.
I recently purchased a CDR that was recommended on their site as able to read and
write the CD+G subcodes. It is the Hewlett Packard HP8110 (8100 also works) and
it works great. The others recommended were by Yamaha and Plextor, but these drives
are in the $600 and $700 range. I picked up the HP8110 CDR/CDRW drive at Best Buy
for $399.00 and a pack of 50 Memorex CDR Blanks for $59.00.
The box for the HP8110 does not say much about the technical specs and is fairly
plain jane IMO. It comes with Adaptec's Easy CD Creator, which as far as I can tell,
will not allow you to copy CDG's (it will only grab the audio and turn it into a WAV
file when reading the disk). Thus, you will need a program like CDRWin by GoldenHawk.
GoldenHawk is at http://www.goldenhawk.com
The trial version of CDRWin will only read and write at 1X speed, but the HP8110 is
capable of 24X read and 4X write, so the $59 registration fee for CDRWin will save
you tonz of time.
I am in no way affiliated with HP or GoldenHawk. I am simply someone who has
already spent a great deal of time doing research on how to make my own compilation
CD+G discs (which I was able to to the first evening I got the drive and software,
which happened to be last night).
If this info helped you out at all, or you have other questions I might could answer,
send me e-mail at scottc@webcatering.com and I'll see what I can do.
P.S. I also purchased this setup in hopes of writing a program to create CD+G's from
scratch. I would like to put my own graphics/lyrics to music and burn them to disc.
If anyone has any info on the CD+G format (created by Phillips and Sony and would be
found as an extension the the Red Book format), please send me whatever info you have.
Thanks,

It will take more patience to optimize your PC fully than to rea

Because you require more processor time and more RAM, you should optimize your PC for audio. This means that you'll need to do more research on what uses the most and the least RAM and processor time.

A good tool to help is Max Memory (Memory Max?) the EXE. You should also learn to make modifications to your registry. Only mess with those modifications designed to help your memory. Go to DaveCentral.com for some free utilities to do that. I have found that there are a few golden numbers when it comes to configuring. Be sure to use a calculator to estimate exact numbers needed for certain operations. There are ways to make sure that DLL files aren't loaded unless needed, and ways to keep paged memory to a minimum. Sometimes it's helpful to turn virtual memory totally off. Your screen resolution also contributes to RAM space. You should use the minimum amounts of colors and the minimum screen size. Sometimes it's helpful to turn down or turn off your AGP card. You may need to do this via a change to the BIOS during startup. Another useful trick is to turn off the taskmonitor and other programs which constantly log info or write to your hard disk. This will take a while to do, but find somebody who knows how to optimize a PC and edit the Registry, and you will be in business. After you've done that, it helps to defragment the drive and turn off all unneeded accessories. It's also useful to delete all unneeded file types and icons. I did all this on my previous PC and I gained back about 70% of the RAM. I also stopped using programs that crashed or modified the Registry a lot. PC's are basically a pain in the ass when it comes to getting them to behave. They are easy to modify but difficult to control. Macs are harder to modify, but easier to control.

ATTRIB -r -h -s -a C:\*.* /S

you will need to know this command and how to deal with DOS mode in order to make some changes to your system.

Also, you will need to continually make backups of your main hard drive as you make these changes, so that you can recover your system if it fails. I did this on CD's, but it was difficult to do. It's very difficult to copy the drive you are currently using onto a CD. It's because the system is so picky about what you can and can't do.

Essentially, any program is allowed to fuck up your system beyond belief, but you aren't allowed to make even minor improvements to critical aspects of your computer. This is the curse of the contemporary operating system on the PC.

It's easier and cheaper to just buy used CD's for music and maybe buy a used PowerMac for about 20 dollars from a college or university.

I learned how to optimize my PC for audio, but it took about a year and a half working on it about 4 hours per day. I was running a 667 MHz with 128 MB RAM and a 24bit/96kHz sound card. I had a 20GB hard drive after the second drive died. It also had a ZIP drive and a CDR. I never used the ZIP drive.

The best system I ever had (for stability) was an old Mac Centris 610 (Quadra) with a Houdini Card (for PC emulation). I upgraded it's RAM and added an external Zip Disk drive. I installed System 7.5.5 with all of the bug fixes, and made sure to always read release notes and stuff. I downloaded extra fixings from Apple. I actually got it to the point where it never crashed again. I used a LineLink modem which achieved 56k when configured correctly, and I downloaded freeware programs for everything from news to animation to PC conversion to sound to sequencing to pictures. I made sure that I understood the function of every item in the system folder, and I kept the system folder extremely sparse. I did that back in 1997-98. And I got on the Interned with Fetch and MacLynx and iCab. The only thing I couldn't do was play mp3s. I used SoundSculptor II a lot for synthesis. I also used an old copy of SoundEdit 1.0 which seems to work on every Mac ever invented even though recording is impossible without the original MacRecorder. I used NIH Image as a nice graphics program (free). And used MacSoup to download all of my porn from usenet. I paid 12 dollars a month for Internet access, and I really didn't have any problems with anything. I eventually gave up the system when it died in my car on a long, hot, dusty drive from one city to another. I also accidentally left it out in the rain one day. I was heartbroken, but not too much. The entire system costed my Dad $40 to get me.

A lot more impressive things have been done by others in the past. Just consider those gurus who get 8-bit commodore computers to do live webcasts or those wizards who run ftp servers off of a floppy diskette on a MacPlus!

That's all you need to know about computing to get an idea of how bloated and annoying these things got over the last 15 years or so.

Re: Tape to CD

I highly recommend Sound Forge 4.5...if it's too expensive for you, try the XP version.

Also use the Normalize feature on Sound Forge. I love it!

: I have a rookie question to ask. I want to burn some old tapes I have onto CD's. What soft ware should I use? I'm using a HiVal 2242 CD-RW and my hard drive space available to me is 3.5 meg and I'm using a Pentium 0ne chip.
: Thanks,
