canuck looking to buy digi oo2 & octopre

I'm looking to put together a recording system (which hopefully can double as a live set-up when not hooked up to a computer in my studio.) I would like 16 channels of input with some sort of high quality 96 kHz resolution (eventually upgradeable to 192, etc.)

I'm contemplating the Digidesign 002 mixer along with 2 Focusrite Octopre's. All this (in studio only) hooked up to a Mac G4 with dual processor (I don't know why a dual since NONE of apple's new stuff is designed for dual even with osX, just being rich i guess) using ProTools LE for recording and mixing...
Can anyone see any reason why this would or wouldn't work? AND, can you quote me a price on any or all of these items.

HERE ARE A FEW SPECIFIC INITIAL QUESTIONS I HAVE:

1) How many tracks does ProTools LE accept at one time (input)... Can I record/input 16 simultaneous tracks or more or only 8?
(2) How physically would the 2 Octopre's hook up to the Digi 002? Are we limited to one Octopre?
(3) Would I need the Lightpipe/ADAT card (from Octopre) to hook up to the Digi 002?
(4) Does the Digi 002 recognize more than 8 channels with it's 8 faders such as like the panasonic mixer with it's 8 faders but multiple "scenes" that allow access to say the other inputs such as the octopre? i.e. If I would like to access strips for tracks 9-16 / 17-24 etc (coming from an Octopre)
(5) Is the octopre and digi oo2 limited in it's 96 khz capabilities or is it going to be able to be expanded down the road. (I don't want to pay alot for something that dosent adapt, things are always changing !!!)
Maybe this doesn't work at all, but I would love to have 3 stand alone pieces that can come together as one nice complete system...

So far i've figured out that the 002 rack (same as the mixer system) can only do eight channels worth of mics at 96k.
These eight channels are: one thrugh eight.
One through four are the pre amps supplied with the unit 5,6,7 and 8 are the only other 96k "analogue" channels (wait: for mic pres).
So you can only hook up eight mic pres and still have 96k.
Then, you can also hook up eight more pieces of equipment at 96k, just not mic pre amps.

Fruityloops 3.5.6 stops Clean 3.0 form working

Hi there,
Worth a shot ... I am using Steinberg Clean 3.0 to clean up some old cassettes and it has been working fine until I installed Fruityloops 3.5.6. Now when I try to run Clean, the FL Midi preferences box comes up on screen for about 5 seconds, then I get a fatal error and the program dies before it starts. I tried installing on a different partition on my drive, but my guess is that Clean is using some shared dll that FL has corrupted. Any ideas how to get round this one?
(the error is reported in Clean.exe)

CD&G on computer

I recently bought a CD&G full off Karaoke songs. Currently I do not own a CD&G player;However, I thought my Windows 98 computer would suffice. It (my computer) did not recognize any graphics. It only played the disc like a CD. Is there a program out there that will allow me to view lyrics on my PC from a CD&G?

You need special hardware (like a Plextor burner) to read the graphics from CD+G disks. WinCDG Pro is the program you want to use.

Get it here: http://www.tyrannosoft.com/

If your CDRom or burner can read subchannel data, create a disk image with CloneCD (have checked on 'read subchannel data from audio tracks), and then mount the CCD file into Daemon Toolz, and playback the image using WinCDG Pro.

1. Connect said cassette deck to PC. Get the best quality you can from the cassette as this will determine how good the CD is. If you can get a component deck, all the better

2. Connect the deck to the LINE IN on your PC sound card. Use either the headphone socket or, if using components, use the RECORD OUT on the amplifier.

3. Get a suitable audio recording package (e.g. Cool Edit). There are plenty in the software section

4. Record each track from the tape separately, making sure the recording level isn't set too high. Record in stereo at 44kHz, 16-bit

5. When you have all the tracks recorded, transfer to CD using a suitable package (Nero Burn, Roxio Easy CD Creator)

And that's it.

A quick software recommendation: Steinberg's Clean ... easy to use, cheap and takes out the tape hiss, you can also burn CD's with this software ...

Music mixing software comes in many different flavours from synth based studios like Reason from the Propellerheads to hardcore Audio/midi sequencers like Logic Audio. There are some cheap versions of Logic that will run on 8.6 as in Logic AV and even a free version called Logic Audio Fun which is a taster version of the big boys version.

Short answer: forget it! With a bit of patience and magic you can to some extent do it the other way and take out most of the vocals, but this is a very imprecise science. Best to find a good singer :o)

For 3 days I have been trying to uninstall kAzAA and I can't get rid of it. Uninstall software procedures don't work. My computer is behaving erratically since I installed it and I get unsolicited pop-ups.

please help. i am trying to install kazaa lite and it wont let me. i believe old kazaa is still in my pc

goto add remove programs in the control panel, get rid of it from there. Then get 'spybot search and destroy', to get rid of the adware that it installed.

then i'd reccommend www.slyck.com to find an alternative, winmx is good for audio, kazaa lite is your best choice for movies/games
