recording accoustical instruments digitally

Hi. I want to have a multi track program that i can play trombone quartets and play all the parts.

Can you recommend?

Re: recording accoustical instruments digitally

ProTools is my best recommendation, but there are several others: Cubase, Digital Performer, Logic Audio, Cakewalk, etc. etc. You will need an audio interface to convert your analog signals into digital audio and send it to the computer. There are lots of options and it'll depend on your budget, computer, the program you choose,...

how do you put drum machines, synth mod, ect. together?

I've messed around with some music software but I'm not exactly sure how to put together real drum machines, synth machines, mixer/recorder and whatever else. If anyone understands what I'm talking about and knows how to do this please contact me and tell me how to do it.

In a sequencer

Yes you've come to the stage of needing a sequencer by the looks of it! If u 'export to wav' your drums in 4bar loops for example you simply load this little loop into a sequencers audio track then copy and paste the loop to make a 3 minute or whatever song. You can export many variations and add these in too where ever needed. Do the same with bass lines and synth lines etc etc. This is basically the way the pros do it as sequencers allow you to EQ/add effects to each track and make a final mixdow (another 'export to wav'!) You may also want to check out 'all in one' programs like fruity loops which acts like a drum machine/synth/sequencer all in one. But again anything made in this CAN be put into a sequencer to add EQ/effects and vocals or live instruments alongside before mixdown.
Also check out 'Orion' if u want to make quality electronic music - need a fast CPU for it though unlike FruityLoops.

Recording

I have an audio tape of music I have mad on an organ and would like to transfer it to a CD using CEQuadrat for cutting the disk and Cakewalk 6.01 for transferring the audio tape to the hard drive. I assume I do this through the microphone input to the computer. Could I do it by using my MIDI cable from the organ to the computer? The MIDI on the organ is 1991 vintage and the organ has a maximum of four tracks, but I do not know how many tracks are used for what I played. Thank you.

Re: Recording

Yes you could probably use midi lead I don't think the protocol has changed since 1991. Remember though that midi is only data not sound so the midi signals will go to your soundcard where they will be converted to Organ sounds or even Clarinet if u wanted! The point is the actuall sound of the Organ (if u like it) will not be reproduced - but most cards have very good organ voices.

Yes mic input make sure levels OK in cards audio options. Mid would also be recorded on Cakewalk midi tracks as opposed to audio. Will have to assign each of 4 tracks to different tracks in Cakewalk for mixdown ability. Then midi is converted to audio inside Cakewalk again - simply play song while recording onto a spare audio track.

cdr continuous mixes

I'm trying to burn a continuous mix onto a CDR from my Mac, with the tracks defined, but Toast puts tiny pauses between the tracks. Does anyone know how to avoid this, other than burning the mix as one long track?

Buzz is cool, but I heard of something better

Buzz is a really cool software for creating music, and it´s completely free, however I heard that there is a similar program created by one of the guys who make all those buzz machines. This is supposed to be able to load VST instruments into it, and supposedly does very well with samples. Does anyone know who made it and what it´s called????? Please help me...

Re: Maybe it's this one

I have seen some new release of this sort that you're talking about - it's called PsycleDelics or something and you can find it somewhere on this site.... good luck! :)

Do I Need A Burner To Use A Burner Program

dO I NEED A CD BURNER TO USE ANY OF THIS SOFTWARE, IF SO DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE TO GET A CD BURNER FOR CHEAP, THANKS

Re: Do I Need A Burner To Use A Burner Program

You'll need to ask for a 'CD Writer' at your local computer shop. Don't get one that is too cheap as it may cause you troubles.

WinCE and Music editor/sequencer

I own a HPJornada 720 and am looking for WinCe programs
which allow music editing/playing/sequencing. There is
a PalmPilot program called Noter which looks like what
I am looking for(see www.storm.it), but they won't port

DOS emulator on WinCe machines. Any ideas?

From online radios to mp3 format?

Hi!

Is it possible to record online radio music direct to mp3 format? How can I do that?

Thanks

Amp Radio

I have Amp Radio from Subband which has a record button that will stream an MP3 to the desktop of what you are listening to. I don't know what computer you have but if it's a Microsoft computer then check out if they do a Windows version.

Re: From online radios to mp3 format?

I don't think so. Total Recorder can record sound being played by other computer programs (RealPlayer, Windows Media Player, etc.)

Drum software that can record

Hello,

I am looking for a drum software, in which I can play and record live the drum patterns on my computer keyboard... I've checked a few softwares and all they could do, is have me drag lines all around the place.. are we musicians or what? I have my drumming in my head and my fingers, I can't view it as lines in a time graph ;-)

Anyone knows of such software?

I need Heavy Metal/Industrial/techno software..

Hey.

Can anyone suggest any programs that would be useful in making strong, heavy industrial music (for example, Nine Inch Nails type stuff) with a bit of a techno background beat to it?? I need a program that will aid in generating drums beats too.. since i dont play the drums. Can someone suggest a program that does this all in one? I have tried literally dozens of programs and nothing is quite what I'm looking for yet... Thanks alot.

Re: I need Heavy Metal/Industrial/techno software..

Chase,

I recommend Cubase VST far and above over all the rest. Not only is it's audio quality totally top-line professional, but it allows you to have "virtual instruments" that play MIDI tracks and can be effected (with plugins) in the same way as audio tracks and live happily along with any audio tracks you have. You can do your drums with a freeware VST instrument called Loopazoid (which is available on this site). Loopazoid is a drum sampler plugin.. just load your sampled drum sounds into it. Write out your drum sequences on a MIDI track and choose Loopazoid as its player. It's pretty simple, and since virtual instruments are treated like audio tracks you can totally tweak out the drum sounds with plugins and effects.

I use this basic system all the time and it totally works. Cubase VST the the best Audio/MIDI/Sequencing program... period.
