Beat Making?

Hello, thank you for reading this. . . I was really wondering if there are any Beat-Making(rap beat)programs for computers. I couldn't tell under what branch of software these might be found under in the site. Some program that can make professional wavs or mp3s. Please mail me if you know of one or can help at all.

Loops !!!merry go round.........

There,s many softwares that you can use,
Ex:Sonic Foundry Acid,Groove Maker,
Fruity Loops Ts 404 v2.5 and many more.
What you have to do is play around with the loops.
I mean, cut and paste kind of thing. Those softwares can also convert their format to wave or
mp3 files etc etc...

Turtle Beach Soundcard

Is the Turtle Beach Montego II a Soundfont
compatible soundcard? I don't think it is, but I haven't
found anything that says it isn't. I also have a Gadgetlabs
8/24 soundcard. Would I be able to use soundfonts with this
card, or is it only good with audio I/O?
Thanks

don't think it uses soundfonts - check website www.etcetera

Some Creative Labs cards do ofcourse

Logic Audio and Native Instruments B4

Does anybody know how to run Native Instruments B4 (hammond emulator) in Logic Audio Platinum 4.5?
I suppose it should appear in the audioinstr inserts, but it doesn't!!!
I'm getting crazy...

Re: Logic Audio and Native Instruments B4

Yes you'll be using it as a VST plugin? Well ensure the B4 .dll file is placed in Logic's VST plugin folder - alongside any other VST instruments u may have.

insights on velocity engine acceleration...

(G3)

The design philosophy on MPC7400 is to change from the MPC750 base only where required to gain compelling multimedia and multiprocessor performance. MPC7400's core is essentially the same as the MPC750's, except that whereas the MPC750 has a 6-entry completion queue and has slower performance on some floating-point double-precision operations, MPC7400 has an 8-entry completion queue and a full double-precision FPU. MPC7400 also adds the AltiVec instruction set, has a new memory subsystem (MSS), and can interface to an improved bus, the MPX bus. The following sections discuss the major changes in more detail.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

AltiVec is designed to improve the performance of vector-intensive code, as can be seen in such applications as multimedia and digital signal processing. AltiVec-targeted code can speed up many two-dimensional and three-dimensional graphics functions 3-5 times, especially core functions in 3-D engines and game-related 2-D functions.

hey Rob, we only pass this way once so -

let it go man! Life's too short to hold a grudge and just because fate has delt you a bad hand and you've ended up on the substandard platform there's no need to take it out on us high spec PC users.

You can throw the Mac advertising propaganda around all you want and I could go on about the latest Cubase/Pentium III integration or ASIO or Soundblaster Live Drive or soundfonts or 133Mhz RAM but where would that get us? The fact is the Mac based musician is in the minority for some very good reasons - overpriced, underprovided for, underperforming toasters just about sums it up really.

steve

A fast p.c. is great,but...(im just defending a platform from c

Yes steve the mac is not a perfect platform.but neither is the p.c..while the p.c. offers great options for accountants or videogamers for multi media apps the macs high end functions make it a standard.infact with ceertain types of signal processing the g4 doesnt run twice as fast but 3-5 times faster. So there we are with 2 imperfect platforms. One,the pc, catered to business apps and leisure, and the mac catered to multi media. And the mac may not have fruity loops, but it has its own killer apps.

MACS are the accountants choice!

Let me show u rob this quote from cpuscorecard.com -

'Bryce {3D 4.0 Render Rock Island} is an example of an application that does NOT use the Velocity Engine of the G4 and does NOT utilize the dual processors of the Dell. So in this case, the Athlon wins by a mile' -
http://www.barefeats.com/pentium2.html

Well blow me down - 61 long seconds for the G4 400/256MB RAM compared to 35 seconds for the Athlon 800 - thats almost TWICE as fast for the Athlon! So are you being misleading when u claim the G4 is '3-5 times faster'? - I THINK SO!!!

Just what appps DO integrate with the Velocity Engine anyway? You havent really mentioned - is it because it's mostly graphics programs? Well that's useful for audio production! This anomaly (the VE) in no way makes up for the fact that a MAC costs close to TWICE as much as an 'eqivalent' (or much faster!) PC, the peripherals also cost close to TWICE as much, Apple dealers are few and far between, there is a serious lack of audio software for the platform, there is no soundcard upgrade option for a Mac which is VERY worrying as that's the heart of audio production, and to top it all, most Mac users are Train spotters - or at least know one.

I'm sorry Rob but the more I've looked at it the LESS viable the Mac over the IBM compat platform looks. It just doesn't make sense to limit oneself with a Mac when the same money gets a top flight, highly upgradable PC with hundreds of audio tools at your disposal, a great soundcard (which with Soundfonts frees up even more CPU power for intensive audio work) and not to mention better internet compatability so faster browsing.

Get out of the slow lane,

steve:)

I can't bare this anymore...

: Well blow me down - 61 long seconds for the G4 400/256MB RAM compared to 35 seconds for the Athlon 800 - thats almost TWICE as fast for the Athlon! So are you being misleading when u claim the G4 is '3-5 times faster'? - I THINK SO!!!

One of so many contradicting reports. If I was to stoop so low then I may even be tempted to go and find some intel reports for you.

You really know so little. ALL the main audio programs us the Velocity Engine. Your talking before thinking. Your assuming you know but are arguing with fiction. The train spotting comment was surely for the amusement of children. To an adult, it just sounds childish. And what was that about the soundcard upgrade??? I can't believe you said that...

Can I recommend a part time stand up comedian job. What's not upgradeable about a G4?? How about all the Mac audio programs?? How many hundred do you want to use at a time?? there is tons of software...

Better Internet capability and faster browsing?? That infantile comment not only tops it all, but has brought the whole discussion to a close for me. What ever is said, you just keep coming back with the bollocks. We have travelled the road from rivalry to the rediculous and I really couldn't waste another breath on someone so deeply knowledgeless.

Steve...R

: Get out of the slow lane,

hehe... my sides are starting to hurt.

Final word then

: One of so many contradicting reports. If I was to stoop so low then I may even be tempted to go and find some intel reports for you.

OK so introducing some scientific evidence (with reference for confirmation) into the discussion is stooping low is it? How can benchmark tests be contradictory? They are repeatable - and in this example the G4 lost by a mile. So if something goes against you Steve you get personal is that it? Well that's your life fella.

: You really know so little

Yes I agree, which is why I asked about VE compatible apps but you are not answering my question with anything other than abuse - very interesting approach.

:The train spotting comment was surely for the amusement of children.

Well, it wasn't a serious comment atall, ahem.

:And what was that about the soundcard upgrade??? I can't believe you said that...

I read that Mac soundcards are integrated and not upgradable, if I'm wrong I am fully willing to accept that - no problem atall.

: Can I recommend a part time stand up comedian job.

yes sounds good - can I start with my joke about the Mac which thought it was a 'proper' computer?

How about all the Mac audio programs?? How many hundred do you want to use at a time?? there is tons of software...

More lies and u know it. The Mac has what, 20% - if that - ammount of software compared to IBM platform period. Get real.

: Better Internet capability and faster browsing??

Yes, that's generally accepted to be the case.

:That infantile comment not only tops it all, but has brought the whole discussion to a close for me. What ever is said, you just keep coming back with the bollocks. We have travelled the road from rivalry to the rediculous and I really couldn't waste another breath on someone so deeply knowledgeless.

Well OK, if you have lost the argument why not just say instead of coming out with needless abuse? 'Rivalry to the Rediculous' - a nice turn of phrase! It really is fine that you want to butt into this exchange I was having with Rob here but to do so just to childishly offer some abuse is a bit, well, just not right! If you've had enough, fine, why tell me? I don't want to know what you think of me really as I have very little faith in your sense of judgement or any other Apple Mac user for that matter. That is a serious comment too.

Now, if only they could redisign that G4 Cube monstrosity into a more streamlined shape you'd be able to shove it right up your..... maybe u can already?

steve

WHERE TO START

I am a songwriter with over 20 years of professional experience. I want to learn how to use my computer to program demos, and be able to use the wonderful new technology. Previously everything has been cutlive in the studio with worldclass players. I am a keyboard player but not proficient of high -level tech stuff. What program should I begin with to learn how to get up to speed using my computer and M1?

Re: WHERE TO START

Hi CR,

Since you have an M1, you'll probably want to work with MIDI. And you'll probably also want to record audio eventually. Also, since you are just starting out, you'll need some software that is pretty easy to get up and running with. You might want to check out either Guitar Studio or Pro Audio from Cakewalk. You can find more info. and download demos from their site: www.cakewalk.com.

You'll also need a MIDI interface for your computer so that you can connect the M1 to your computer. Midiman (www.midiman.com) has some good products.

And for audio, Midiman also has some nice audio interfaces. Or if you need something inexpensive, you might want to check out the SB Live sound card (www.soundblaster.com).

Best,
Scott

Old Cassette tape to PC to CD

I have an old tape of music that my father recorded from the radio some 30 years ago. Before I loose the tape to age or some other catastrophe I want to transfer the entire tape onto a CD. Can someone give me some tips as to the best way to do this? I have the CD burner, but lack the knowledge of what software program(s) I need to complete this task. I know how to transfer from tape to PC with line in etc. on a player of numerous kinds, but the files would be huge, right? Can you record directly from tape to .mp3 somehow? PLEASE HELP, would like to get this done by Christmas. Please reply directly to email address if possible. Thanks.

Re: Old Cassette tape to PC to CD

I am unfamiliar with programs relating to burning cds. I would love to turn my husband's tapes into cds but I'm confused about the advice I've been getting from salespeople. If anyone out there can give me the easiest way to hook up my stero to my PC to burn, please enlighten me. No one will give me a straight answer on what programs I need, and cables I have to buy. Since I'm somewhat computer deficient, If someone can spell out excatly what I can do, I'd really appreciate it.

Re: Old Cassette tape to PC to CD

Ok.
you can use Adaptec software to burn the songs
on Cd.After you transfer from tape to pc use Wave Clean to get rid of all the hiss on the Wave Files,I think the wave files wouldnt be that huge(60minutes = 450mb+-).Finish up the first tape then burn it to Cd delete it from your pc then carry on with the second tape.

Please include software needed. and patch cords, etc. Thomas.

Old Cassette tape to PC to CD

I've tried using Adaptec software to transfer my on tapes to mp3 on my hard drive through my audio in jack. The audio quality was terrible & something corrupts my audio drivers every time I try it. My audio input settings seem to be correct. What is the problem? Please help!!

Is pro tools 5.01 le optimised for the g4 altivec/velocity engin

Having a old mac that ive upgraded to a g4 has enabled me to have a digital audio workstation(daw)Now, on most programs not optimised for the velocity engine the performance is identical to a g3's. when optomised the g4 can enact certain features of programs such as in logic audio twice as fast. twice as fast as a g3 or any p.c.
Infact on the g4 unity's software synth is twice as powereful as on the pc.So Im wondering if my pro tools utilises this raw power and also why p.c. users dont trade in for a mac g4?
I also understand cubase is optimised making their mixing and real time effects as well as other options TWICE AS FAST on G4.

useful info on altivec, oh and pro tools le aint pro tools free

Platinum (quote) "New in this version (4.5.1) is the Multi Processor-Support in Logic Platinum and Gold, which results in better audio DSP performance when using a Dual Processor G4. Logic Audio splits the audio and MIDI tasks and distributes them to separate processors. This results in a level of timing precision not possible before; this is also the case when using the USB port. Another big advantage is exceptionally fast screen redraws, even when the CPU load is high."
* Bitheadz Inc.'s Unity DS-1 Digital Sampler. Reader reports say Altivec allows 128 voice polyphony (Only 64 with other CPUs)
* Bias-inc has a G4 optimized version of Peak 2.1 Audio editor. Bias Peak 2.1 full or TDM versions support AltiVec (but not LE or SE versions)
* Steinberg's Cubase VST v4.1 rev 2 has Altivec support for the audio mixer, group mixer, master mixer and EQ according to reader reports. (www.cubase.net is another link for product info)
* SoundJam MP (MP3 encoder/player used in many of my G4 upgrade reviews)

Cheers

Cheers for that information!!! I use soundjam and it is more than 4 times faster at packing than previous versions. I love it!!

Thanks for the information on Peak as it is my main Editor. I have considered upgrading to 2.5 for the VST support but it's just more money..!!

Cheers

Steve...R

I have tried...

... to find that out myself although nobody seems to know. Logic's Mixer page is 'well fast' due to the fact that it uses the Velocity Engine. I don't know how steinberg have used the VE but i'm sure it's as impressive as Logic on the G4. If you find out yourself then let us all know and I will do the same. I don't use Pro-Tools free as it's soundcard addressing has been largely ignored.

Regards

Steve..R

Cubase VST and Korg M1

Hi. I'm having trouble getting my Korg M1 to work properly with Cubase VST 3.7. It's not a timing issue. I'm using a Seasound Solo sound card and I have tried the soundblaster live. When I play the M1 all that I get back is junk (wrong notes etc.) I'm no MIDI expert, all I want is to be able to use the M1. Can anyone suggest a sollution? Please help, I'm at my wits end and I can't seem to get any help from Korg.

thanks, Simon.

MONEY IN YOUR MAILBOX?

I found this on a bulletin board and decided to try it. A little while back, I was browsing through newsgroups, just like you are now, and came across an article similar to this that said you could make thousands of dollars within weeks with only an initial investment of $6.00! So I thought, "Yeah right, this must be a scam", but like most of us, I was curious, so I kept reading. Anyway, it said that you send $1.00 to each of the 6 names and address stated in the article. You then place your own name and address in the bottom of the list at #6, and post the article in at least 200 newsgroups. (There are thousands) No catch, that was it. So after thinking it over, and talking to a few people first, I thought about trying it. I figured: "what have I got to lose except 6 stamps and $6.00, right?" Then I invested the measly $6.00. Well GUESS WHAT!?... within 7 days, I started getting money in the mail! I was shocked! I figured it would end soon, but the money just kept coming in. In my first week, I made about $25.00. By the end of the second week I had made a total of over $1,000.00! In the third week I had over $10,000.00 and it's still growing. This is now my fourth week and I have made a total of just over $42,000.00 and it's still coming in rapidly. It's certainly worth $6.00, and 6 stamps, I have spent more than that on the lottery!! Let me tell you how this works and most importantly, WHY it works... Also, make sure you print a copy of this article NOW, so you can get the information off of it as you need it. I promise you that if you follow the directions exactly, that you will start making more money than you thought possible by doing something so easy! Suggestion: Read this entire message carefully! (print it out or download it.) Follow the simple directions and watch the money come in! It's easy. It's legal. And, your investment is only $6.00 (Plus postage) IMPORTANT: This is not a rip-off; it is not indecent; it is not illegal; and it is 99% no risk - it really works! If all of the followinginstructions are adhered to, you will receive extraordinary dividends.
PLEASE NOTE: Please follow these directions EXACTLY, and $50,000 or more can be yours in 20 to 60 days. This program remains successful because of the honesty and integrity of the participants. Please continue its success by carefully adhering to the instructions. You will now become part of the Mail Order business. In this business your product is not solid and tangible, it's a service. You are in the business of developing Mailing Lists. Many large corporations are happy to pay big bucks for quality lists. However, the money made from the mailing lists is secondary to the income which is made from people like you and me asking to be included in that list. Here are the 4 easy steps to success: STEP 1: Get 6 separate pieces of paper and write the following on each piece of paper "PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST." Now get 6 US $1.00 bills and place ONE inside EACH of the 6 pieces of paper so the bill will not be seen through the envelope (to prevent (thievery). Next, place one paper in each of the 6 envelopes and seal them. You should now have 6 sealed envelopes, each with a piece of paper stating the above phrase, your name and address, and a $1.00 bill. What you are doing is creating a service. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY LEGAL! You are requesting a legitimate service and you are paying for it! Like most of us I was a little skeptical and a little worried about the legal aspects of it all. So I checked it out with the U.S. Post Office (1-800-725-2161) and they confirmed that it is indeed legal. Mail the 6 envelopes to the following addresses:
#1) JW Maher, 60 North Nimitz Hwy, #1902, Honolulu, HI 96817 #2) Mira Wubbens, 11503-A Walnut Ridge, Austin, TX 78753. #3)Bryce Turcotte, 501 3rd Ave., Laurel, MT 59044 #4) Mike Martinez, 5510 Timbercreek Place Dr. #2909, Houston, TX 77084 #5) lisa Zaltz 5001 11th Avenue, brooklyn, ny 11219 #6) Carlos Rodriguez, P.O. Box 2821, Littleton, CO. 80161-2821 2: Now take the #1 name off the list that you see above, move the other names up (6 becomes 5, 5 becomes 4, etc...) and add YOUR Name as number 6 on the list. STEP 3: Change anything you need to, but try to keep this article as close to original as possible. Now, post your amended article to at least 200 newsgroups. (I think there are close to 24,000 groups) All you need is 200, but remember, the more you post, the more money you make! You won't get very much unless you post like crazy. :) This is perfectly legal! If you have any doubts, refer to Title 18 Sec. 1302 & 1341 of the Postal lottery laws.Keep a copy of these steps for yourself and, whenever you need money, you can use it again, and again. PLEASE REMEMBER that this program remains successful because of the honesty and integrity of the participants and by their carefully adhering to the directions. Look at it this way. If you are of integrity, the program will continue and the money that so many others have received will come your way. NOTE: You may want to retain every name and address sent to you, either on a computer or hard copy and keep the notes people send you. This VERIFIES that you are truly providing a service. (Also, it might be a good idea to wrap the $1 bill in dark paper to reduce the risk of mail theft.) So, as each post is downloaded and the directions carefully followed, six members will be reimbursed for their participation as a List Developer with one dollar each. Your name will move up the list geometrically so that when your name reaches the #1 position you will be receiving thousands of dollars in CASH!!! What an opportunity for only $6.00 ($1.00 for each of the first six people listed above) Send it now, add your own name to the list and you're in business! ---DIRECTIONS ----- FOR HOW TO POST TO NEWSGROUPS------------ Step 1) You do not need to re-type this entire letter to do your own posting. Simply put your cursor at the beginning of this letter and drag your cursor to the bottom of this document, and select 'copy' from the edit menu. This will copy the entire letter into the computer's memory. Step 2) Open a blank 'notepad' file and place your cursor at the top of the blank page. From the 'edit' menu select 'paste'. This will paste a copy of the letter into notepad so that you can add your name to the list. Step 3) Save your new notepad file as a .txt file. If you want to do your postings in different settings, you'll always have this file to go back to. Step 4) Use Netscape or Internet explorer and try searching for various newsgroups (on-line forums, message boards, chat sites, discussions.) Step 5) Visit these message boards and post this article as a new message by highlighting the text of this letter and selecting paste from the edit menu. Fill in the Subject, this will be the header that everyone sees as they scroll through the list of postings in a particular group, click the post message button. You're done with your first one! Congratulations...THAT'S IT! All you have to do is jump to different newsgroups and post away, after you get the hang of it, it will take about 30 seconds for each newsgroup! **REMEMBER, THE MORE NEWSGROUPS YOU POST IN, THE MORE MONEY YOU WILL MAKE! BUT : YOU HAVE TO POST A MINIMUM OF 200** That's it! You will begin receiving money from around the world within days! You may eventually want to rent a P.O.Box due to the large amount of mail you will receive. If you wish to stay anonymous, you can invent a name to use, as long as the postman will deliver it. **JUST MAKE SURE ALL THE ADDRESSES ARE CORRECT.** Now, each of the 5 persons who just sent me $1.00 make the MINIMUM 200 postings, each with my name at #5 and only 5 persons respond to each of the original 5, that is another $25.00 for me, now those 25 each make 200 MINIMUM posts with my name at #4 and only 5 replieseach, I will bring in an additional $125.00! Now, those 125 persons turn around and post the MINIMUM 200 with my name at #3 and onlyreceive 5 replies each, I will make an additional $625.00! OK, now here is the fun part, each of those 625 persons post a MINIMUM 200 letters with my name at #2 and they each only receive 5 replies, that just made me $3,125.00!!! Those 3,125 persons will all deliver this message to 200 newsgroups with my name at #1 and if still 5 persons per 200 newsgroups react I will receive $15,625,00! With an original investment of only $6.00! AMAZING! When your name is no longer on the list, you just take the latest posting in the newsgroups, and send out another $6.00 to names on the list, putting your name at number 6 again. And start posting again. The thing to remember is: do you realize that thousands of people all over the world are joining the internet and reading these articles everyday?, JUST LIKE YOU are now!! So, can you afford $6.00 and see if it really works?? I think so... People have said, "what if the plan is played out and no one sends you the money? So what! What are the chances of that happening when there are tons of new honest users and new honest people who are joining the internet and newsgroups everyday and are willing to give it a try? Estimates are at 20,000 to 50,000 new users, every day, with thousands of those joining the actual internet. Remember, honesty and integrity will make this work... just do it!

Is it possible to apply crossfading within a cuesheet?

Or is there a package out there that allows crossfading between songs and also modification of the index values within the cuesheet/layout for burning audio disks?

Adaptech JAM.

Adaptechs JAM allows for cross fading between songs and is quite fun just to play with. There may be others but I use this. I don't know if you can move index's but you may be able to. You can also burn direct from MP3 in the newer version

Help my writer is not compatible

HELP, I downloaded CD CLONE and and everytime I try
backing up one of my cd+g it keeps telling my writer is not
not compatible..Can someone tell if my Hp 9500i is capable
of recording with this software? Thanks, Deb

I had to...

....upgrade my version of toast when I bought a Yamaha CDRW4416 as I had the same problem. Check with the latest version of the program from the developers site and see if there is an upgrade. In my experience, if it doesn't recognise it, check the update. If there isn't one then it wont work.

Entering sheet music to be played as a MIDI file

I am looking for software that will allow me to enter existing sheet music, then play it in a MIDI file. I am new to singing in a choir and am a Tenor and I am having trouble figuring out my parts, and I am hoping this will help.

Re: Entering sheet music to be played as a MIDI file

Hi David,

Check out the software available from Coda Music (www.codamusic.com). They have a full range of music notation software available.

Best,
Scott

Problem with Smartscore

I downloaded SmartScore. I got one file only called "Program Files" 3482KB. I double click on it and nothing happens. Do I have to do this whole thing over again?

im really hacked off with MIDIMAN

hi guys,
i dunno if anyone out there has the misfortune of owning a dmann 2044 pci sound card? well i have and the support is awful, i have had the card for a year i found win 98 a bit unstabl and was tolds that win 2000 was a bit more stable but there are no win 2000 drivers and there wont be any for the dmann 2044 and now i have just been emailed by midiman and told that the card is now obsolete! so i just wasted like £150 for a card ive had for a year?, i wanted to know if anyone has got a 2044 if so what software do you use with it? i record my band with it using samplitude studio but i find that unstable also iam thinking of the new cubase or logic audio, any ideas or advice appreciated.

thanks

jon

Hmmm..

Sorry to hear about the problems. What exactly is the problem with the card? Do you use the correct ASIO drivers etc??

It may be worth checking with Dmann what sequencer packages support the 2044 directly. My Kor1212 is directly supported by Logic Audio and runs flawlessly from with in the program. There are too many variables with the Computer system to give a decent answer with the given information.
