Re: I need help dowloading music

If you're interested in downloading music then the best thing I've found so far is the Sony Net Walkman. Its a tiny thing that stores up to 120 mins of mp3/wav files so you can stick the stuff on your hard drive and then just whack it on the netwalkman when you don't want to listen to music stuck at your computer...without having to waste CDs, the files are just on your hard drive like an invisible music library...
Also you can rip CDs onto it with better sound quality, cos it uses the same comression system as minidisc, which is significantly better than most downloads. Plus all this is above board as it has copyright protection installed.
A good site for downloads is stick2music.com

Re: I need help dowloading music

napster is the best site
you will have to download the software from
napster

TEK >> STEVE CRASH TEST

it crash at my home also but only from time to time : i don't know why i have 12000 visitor it may it does't crash for all

Crash Test Dummy!

So I am not alone! Yes it appears to be a mystery! It must have something to do with the Flash (?) as it is while this is downloading that the crash happens.

You know Tek that possibly you have had 120,000 visitors but that 90% of them have crashed and run away! My error message says that if the fault continues that the program vendor should be informed - in this case that means Microsoft!!! Well I don't know if Bill would be interested but it may be worth your while investigating the problem further as you may be loosing quite a few visitors?

I will continue to try periodically and let you know.

cheers,

steve

Help with playing a MP3 in Corel Presentation

Corel presentation will only allow you to play wav files. I have a program called wav4mp3, but i can't get it to work. Plus i've read that it won't work in presentation 9 anyways. Does anyone have any ideas.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Help with playing a MP3 in Corel Presentation

Get music match juke box. It will convert your mp3 files to wav. Do you know how to make a Sond play all the way through the presentation without skipping a beat? Cheers, Mike

Creating or indexing tracks

I use Exact Audio Copy software to record and edit music files. If I am recording music from a tape to my CPU I get 1 long track. How does one create or index tracks (separate songs) before burning? Does EAC software allow this function? Is there an alternative software one might suggest? Thanks!!

searching midi cable for my laptop

i am looking for a midi cable that can fit to my laptop port , i bought the regular cables from a store but could not find any slot in my laptop to plug that, if anyone knows please let me know.

---Vishal

Re: searching midi cable for my laptop

I believe that laptop soundcards are not outfitted with the right ports to connect to midi devices. The only way to use midi with a laptop is to install an external soundcard, or just use your desktop. If however, you hear something else, post it up, cause I have the same problem.

how can I get melody from MIDI file?

protools or MAGIX or WHAT>!

I use MAGIX MUSIC v2000 for audio recording software, and I have allot of trouble getting the recording values to stay consistant, even though all the settings will remain the same. From one take to the next can sound like a completely different session. THe inconsistancy sounds horrible. I tried using protools free, but the interface is tougher, and I cant get it to run properly on my computer. Does anyone have any advice?

there are many options on many(2) platforms for many needs

Well brandon if your willing to cough up a little dough you can have yourself the type of setup that will send ecstatic shivers down your spine as you boot up.A few programs that may give this effect are motu's digital performer(well rounded) emagic's logic(abundant features and compatable with so much...) ,steinbergs cubase(affordable plugins),and pro tools(rock $olid). If your an actual musician who actually uses mics to record actual instruments pro tools is cool, but if you require midi options pro tools should be avoided(unless you've $io,ooo
in your back pocket).perhaps logic audio gold, and whatever type of interface your needsrequire.now all you have to do is get that second job ,or sell your signifigant other to 3td world whoredom to pay for it.(worked for me!)
p.s.
pro tools is a mempory and cpu hog.theyre digi 001 package is a good starting point. but requires a speedy system.A cheap pc audio solution for hobbyists is cakewalk.Otherwise BUY A MAC AND FELL PURE AUDIO PLEASURE!

instant music package?

well pro tools (a sequencer) and MM2000 (an instant music package?) represent two very different methods of creating music. If u want an instant music package then pro tools is not it. If u want to create and craft your own instruments, melodies and samples then a sequencer alongside other apps is the way to go. Try lots of demos and see what grips you is the best advice. Pro tools needs a fast comp with plenty RAM but others sequencers don't. Maybe u need to upgrade? 400Mhz CPU with 64MB RAM is a bare minimum for sure

dc arts

Im looking for either a full nondemo version of dc arts live or 2000 or someother program that would be comprable. The features that I mainly use it for are the fantastic reverb program, and small filtering jobs. I just cant get reverb that good anywhere else. Anybody know anything?

I need help on recording and the issue of the mix down.

I need to know the art of recording and what levels should I record, music and vocals.

Also I need to know the steps for a perfect mix down and the ends and outs on what to look out for.

Post a message and e-mail me your responses pleae,

Thank You.

Complicated...

There are books written on subjects like that and can't be answered in short. Recording levels can be varied depending on what instrument you are recording and what equipment you are using. Recording a Hit hat at just below peak metering will usually give some sort of distortion. The related frequencies are a very tight bandwidth and the meters will more than likely fool you into thinking you are in the clear where as the equipment may be taking a full on beating at that given bandwidth. With good equipment, most instruments can be recorded at just below 0db unless you have a noisy analogue system, then you would have to learn to how to stretch the boundaries. Digital? don't push it too high, there is no point. Thin bandwidth instruments should be kept low on the recording level... Nuff said...

Mastering tips in short could be, don't overdo the bass or treble. You can mess up a mix or any instrument by over Eq'ing the mid range. Most of the metamorphisis of instrument sound comes from the mid range. Be careful with them. Compression is a valid part of a final mix and should be studied deeply. Compression can make the world of difference to most final mixes but if you have overdone the Eq'ing in different areas, then you will reduce the assistance given by the compressor. Trial and error is the best way to learn...

How can I receive multiple midi channels on an XP-80, simultaneo

I have a Mac with GVOX (formerly Passport) ENCORE midi/notation software that is capable of outputing 16 separate midi channels, and a Roland XP80.
What I'd like to do, and am having trouble figuring out, is to, for instance, send Voice 1 on Channel 1, and Voice 2 on Channel 2, etc. I can send like this, but the Roland is only receiving on Channel 1.
Can I receive multiple channels at once?

Thanks

Phil

Re: How can I receive multiple midi channels on an XP-80, simult

What you need to understand is that most synths (defintely workstations) have two main modes. One is generally Voice mode where the synth is trying it's best to impress you with one main sound and the other is often refered to as MultiTimbral mode which allows you to address a bunch of different voices at the same time with different Midi channels.

I suspect that if you read deeper into the manual of the XP, you will discover details on using your synth in MultiTimbral mode (often performance mode) which will allow you to speak to upto 16 different sound with it's own Midi channel

Good Luck... it's there waiting to be used...!

MIDI recording

I have problems recording MIDI to my n-track studio. The MIDI-out port is set to MIDI-mapper, and I can`t change it to my Roland serial driver, where can I do that? A strange thing is that it is sometimes possible to record midi but never with monitor sound. I can`t hear what I record, just when i play it back. Please help!!!

Re: MIDI recording

For listening as u record u would need to unmute the recording volume in the Audio Properties Control Pannel. U should be able to select midi ports inside n-track somewhere!
