MP3 Length Question

Does any know what the exact math is to figure out the length of an mp3 file in seconds?

Encore 3.0 Program

Does anybody know where I might be able to find a users manual for Passport's Encore 3.0 music notation program?
Thanks

Re: Encore 3.0 Program

well... I have the manual for encore 4.0... i'm not sure
is that may help you. I also have the 4.2 version, if interested.

I love encore. it's the best music notation software I have worked with.

MP3 Jumper I problem, Do you have the same problem??

I have this problem about my Maxell MP3 Jumper I
(parallel port version). The parallel port has
different modes. When I transfer ordinary PC files from
player to PC (ex. *.exe files) the files get corrupted.
This problem occurs at standard mode of parallel port.
When I use ECP mode, the problem disappears(problem is
I work in some computers w/o ECP). When I use
Bi-directional mode, the player does not even work
because the red LED goes off. When I use EPP mode,
there are more instances I have errors downloading MP3
files to player and the computer says the error (But when I
use another Jumper software, the led just turns off).
I'm trying to find out if the problem is in the MMC
(multimedia card). I hope you can help..or do you have
the same problem?

Re: MP3 Jumper I problem, Do you have the same problem??

Do you have a printer? In the past, I've had trouble with a parallel
port scanner. My printer driver kept sending signals to the printer which
the scanner tried to interpret. Result - scanner wouldn't work.

Solution? Every time I wanted to use the scanner, I'd change the printer
over to LPT2 and connect the scanner to LPT1. Worked ok, but meant
restarting the PC every time I wanted to change and I couldn't have the
printer and scanner connected at the same time (only one parallel port)

If your PC has USB ports, you could try a USB to parallel converter. It may
allow you to move the MP3 player to a different port setting away from
that used by your printer (if you have one)

Re: MP3 Jumper I problem, Do you have the same problem??

I tried to change the port of the printer
to a temporary port but the problems are still
there. Thanx anyway for your help and suggestion.

Lisa suggested Total Record...What's with the Hiss..

After reading a post where "someone" suggested this shareware to record internet and other audio files, I decided to give it a try. Afetr d'loading the demo and testing the 40 seconds, I found a great amount of hiss that wasn't apparent in the original broadcst. Any thoughts? Is it something that I can fix in the ware itself or is it possibly just I-net noise?

Re: Lisa suggested Total Record...What's with the Hiss..

Hi

I've no idea as to whether the noise comes from the net or not. There are other programs that can do the job. Virtual Audio Cable is sposed to be good. Give it a go.

Download Problems

I'm downloading from Rapigator, and the problem is when the songs are finished downloading, it will only play the first 6 seconds or so. The whole file is there, but the whole song isn't playing. This also effects any burning, because the whole song won't burn either. What in the world is going on?!

Rhapsody music software

fruityloops and midi

Hi,

Does anyone know if FruityLoops support the simultanious usage of more than one midi-out port?

I've been meaning to purchase this software but if it only supports one port as the demo indicates then it's no go.

I got no relevant info from their webpage either and they clearly state that they do not want any e-mail correspondance.

video cassatte to VCD

Is there any way to convert video cassatte to vcd & what are the requirements like Hardware & software

Re: video cassatte to VCD

You'll need a video capture card. The ATI Radeon cards have this capability,
but I've heard the quality isn't as good as a separate card. Studio DV would
be a alternative. The software that is supplied with the card will output to
different formats.

Need help with Song title & Artist?

I'm trying to find the title to a song that I have partial lyrics to. They are:
Tell me about it, tell me all about your broken heart.

Re: Need help with Song title & Artist?

Isn't that 'Kicked in the face' by The Gluesniffing Nuns?

Re: Need help with Song title & Artist?

Actually, just try Google and do a search using the lyrics.

Voice Enhancing

Does anyone know how to raise the vocals on a track so that you can hear mainly the vocals? I've been told how to do it but can't seem to make it work. The certain person said it CAN be done and I know for a fact cause I downloaded one. Anyone know how to do it with Cool Edit? Brian

Re: Voice Enhancing

Hey, I wrote that explanation.
I have put up a graphic explanation at the following address:

http://drk-sum.50megs.com/solution.jpg

Have you used filters before? It is a device that only lets sound at a certain frequency through. The frequency used to decide what does and doesn't go through is called the CUTOFF. A lowpass filter elts through all sound BELOW the CUTOFF. A Higpass filter lets all sound through ABOVE the CUTOFF.

PS: What software are you using? Do you have Cubase? Logic? the Fruityloops people put out some free filters plugins, etc. If you are using hardware, well, you'll either need two filters (one highpass and one lowpass) or a switchable one with a bandpass, lowpass, and highpass options.
Run a search for VST filter plugins on your favorite search engine and pull as many free ones as you can.

Thank you very much for replying to my message. I appreciate it. I've been trying to figure out how to do this for a while now and finally i've found someone (yourself) who knows what their talking about. I am using Cool Edit but am willing to change to what your using as long as I am able to raise the vocals on a track. Any suggestions for Cool Edit or should I switch? Brian

Re: Voice Enhancing

Hey Brian,
If the track is completely finished (I mean mixed) there's no miracle that can be done.
However, vocals are usually around 1khz frequency wise( of course it's not exactly this freq. but something like 800 hz-1.2khz type of thing)So you can experiment with an equalizer and boost the frequencies that correspond to the vocals.
When I do some remixing of completely finished tracks for example, I use a filter( which is nothing but and equalizer) to get all the Bass and really high freq. out. You can use the Fast Fourrier transform (FFT)in Cool edit to do this.
What usually remains is the vocals. You can still hear some of the music in the background but not as much. Of course you have to experiment; it won't happen at once unless you're lucky.
Some good eQ like the one's that come in the Native Power Pack by Waves have preset especially set to boost the vocals.
Hope that helps,

I tried but I got nowhere. This is what one person wrote to me, he said that it CAN be done. Maybe you can understand it better than I could.
1. Use a low pass filter and tune the filter so that the cutoff frequency is as high as possible without hearing the vocals. This is your low frequency cutoff. All you will hear is bass.
2. Use a highpass filter and tune the cutoff so that all you hear is the highhat and cymbals and no vocals. This is your high frequency cutoff.
3. Put the first cutoff frequency you found (low frequency cutoff) into the highpass filter. Put the second cutoff you found into the lowpass filter. You have now made a bandpass filter that is cutting out the bass and the high treble. Shrink it down to taste (ie so that you hear less of the instruments at the same frequency as the vocals).
4. Splice the audio so that you cut out all the non vocal parts. Don't worry about the vocal tails (ie don't worry if the vocals just cut out at the end of the vocal phrases), you will reconstitute them later.
5. Reconstitute the tails: slap some reverb on the vocal track, and some bpm-synced stero delay (left side at three quarter notes and right side at six quarter notes) that's it!
This is what he wrote but I don't seem to understand how to do it. Please help. Brian

Re: Claude "Declau"

Like "Me ..euh ..the dumbIII" said you have to be familiar with some basic audio theory to understand how to boost vocals.
Filters are really smart eQ's except the don't add but reduce the amplitude of frequencies that you specifie.
here a link that my help you understand those concepts
processors
also tryBasics
I know it's confusing and tedious but it's an absolute necessity to school yourself on the subject. You can do miracles with audio editors when you get these fundamentals down.
Take your time to understand it and experiment without giving up,
Peace,
declau.

Help with a wav file.

I need to know the best way to get rid of music in the background on a wav file. I am assuming that I cannot remove it totally but is there anyway to at least drown it out to a very quiet noise in the background.
Any help would be great!

Re: Help with a wav file.

Specifically, what kind of wave file is it? A noise gate can help, depending upon it's content. You need to specify, I think, to diagnose the problem..cf

Re: LOOKING FOR A GOOD PROGRAM !!!

There's heaps of freeware on this site. You should be able to find something.

But dya want the honest truth? If you're after something a bit like Fruity and you want it for free - just get Fruity and register it. It'll be better for you in the long run.

Free music

Ive just bought a cd re writer for my computer and although i know how to copy cds i dont know if i can download them from the internet or if i need any other hard/software e.g. a mp3. Can anyone help me and if so tell me any good websites. Cheers!!!!!!!!

Re: Free music

You can download CDs from the Internet, but I don't know why you'd bother. You'd be looking at a several hundred meg download for CD-quality WAVs/CDAs. But you will need something to burn to disc in order to burn to disc, such as an MP3.

You might want to try some CD Burning software. You may also want to look at MP3Machine as there are some good articles on CD Burning, as well as software downloads.

You can turn a VST plug-in into a DirectX plug-in with the following programs. The you'll be able to use it in Cakewalk.
