Re: Exporting songs using cubase... ???

: I need to export my songs from cubase. I learned how to export audio, but i'm working with midi tracks too, and I want to export the whole thing to burn it to a cd. can that be done? how?

: please, someone have to help me. please

the fragile:........you cannot burn midi information to a cd. Each midi track must be recorded over to the audio part of Cubase, mixed down to a stereo track. then you can burn a cd.

????

how do I do that?

Windows 2000 or Windows ME

I need to get my son a computer for college. He will be majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Music, although his passion is definitely MUSIC. We're trying to decide which operating system to get and have heard of issues with Windows 2000 and multimedia. Have these issues been resolved or do recommend going with Windows ME for music related software?

Thanks!

Re: Windows 2000 or Windows ME

The best way is to determine which software and hardware you want to use and check whether they are compatible
with W2K. W2K is intended more for business users, and most PC's advertised by the likes of Dell, Gateway etc.
for the home market come with ME or 98SE. I'd recommend sticking with ME

Andy

Re: Windows 2000 or Windows ME

Windows 2000 (Win2k) DOES have some major issues with CD-RW & some multimedia software. Skip the headache, go for Windows ME (OR Windows XP when available!!). Just get the MAX in RAM & BIGGEST Hard Drive you can muster!!

Re: Windows 2000 or Windows ME

Like CoolGuy said there's some major issues with Win 2000. As to Win ME, at the risk of starting some people's hysteria here, I would advise you to get win 98 Second Edition if you can . Win 98 is more stable than win Me. Plus the newer versions of Windows come with Direct X 8.0 which causes a lot of programs to crash. Win 98 has Direct X 7.0 .
So far, and lot of people that actually deal with sofware compatibility issues, will tell you that win 98 second edition is much more stable than win me.
No matter what OS you're getting , like Coolguy said you need the Max in Ram Memory, a fast processor(PIII not P4 though because most software manufacturers don't support it yet.And you don't want to wait 2 years before using it's full power), and a huge storage capability: for optimal performance one hard drive for the OS and another one dedicated to music(audio files, mp3's etc...)

Yeah, that's what I've heard. The manufacturers of most audio software do not provide support for Windows 2000! Someone really should CLARIFY which OS is meant for which application. Like maybe MicroSoft?

confused on MP3

need to make MP3 files to send over emails.
How do I do this and what software do I need
to use. thanks,Bud Bowers

Re: confused on MP3

Firstly, I wouldn't send MP3s in email. It might cause problems for the recipient, especially if they are on a 56.6 modem connection. But if you want to send em anyway, you'll need an MP3 encoder. You haven't said whether you want to make MP3s from CDs or from your own recordings. Pity, as it would make answering your question a lot easier.

Try a specialist site like <a href="http://www.mp3machine.com">Mp3Machine.com</a>. For making MP3s rom CDs, try <a href="http://www.mp3machine.com/cgi/htdig/htsearch.cgi?method=and&format=builtin-long&sort=score&config=htdig&restrict=&exclude=&words=musicmatch">MusicMatch</a>. To make MP3s from WAVs, try the <a href="http://www.mp3machine.com/cat/ENCODERS/">encoder</a> section.

Re: confused on MP3

You can make MP3s using an ENCODER (find these in the Format Converters section of this site). You can send any file as an attachment to an email as long as the file size is not too big..

License and cost of downloadable programs

I would like clarification on how much a program with an ADWARE license would cost.

Is it free?

Also, please explain about SHAREWARE.

Thank you very much

Re: License and cost of downloadable programs

An ADWARE program costs nothing to download or use. The program will, however, have some type of permanent advertising in its interface.

SHAREWARE can be downloaded for free and used with some of the programs functions disabled or otherwise limited. TRIAL software is like Shareware where the program is usually fully functional but for a limited time period, often 30 days.

SHAREWARE can be downloaded for free and used with some of the programs functions disabled or otherwise limited. You must pay a registration fee to the author/developer of the shareware to receive a serial number or authorization to gain access to full funtcions. Shareware allows for testing and the online purchase of software as opposed to buying it packaged from a store.

need mp3's to have same volume level

If I convert all my mp3 files to the same type of kbps format for instance 96kbps will all my mp3's come through my mp3 player at similar volume levels?

Re: need mp3's to have same volume level

: If I convert all my mp3 files to the same type of kbps format for instance 96kbps will all my mp3's come through my mp3 player at similar volume levels?

Not necessarily. They may not even sound the same due to the encoder used or the volume the audio was originally recorded. You need to normalize your MP3s. If burning to CD, most CD burning software now support normalize. If you are just listening to the MP3s, try AudioSphere (search for it on this site).

Winamp turned off the music -- HELP

I followed the directions here for getting winamp and tara to convert rmx to wav. That worked fine, if it wasn't all that obvious how to implement it. Now I have a REAL PROBLEM!

1) When I now want to play music from a regular audio CD I get NO SOUND, either from Winamp or from the Windows Deluxe CD Player.

2) Winamp made itself my default program for playing CD's. I didn't want that and am at a loss as to how to undo that (although it doesn't make much difference now, since I don't get any sound)

Need to read Digital Performer files on my windows PC

does anyone know of a program that can do this?

Re: Need to read Digital Performer files on my windows PC

The only way that this would be possible I think would be to save it as a midi file and then open it in another sequencing software on the PC. This would be something like Cake Walk or something.
Hope this helps

Dan

Re: Need to read Digital Performer files on my windows PC

I had this same problem a while ago.
This might not be the answer you're looking for but here goes.

I use Pro Tools on my PC. You'll need some kind of sequencer program to do this.
Step 1: I exported all the midi tracks as one midi file, making sure all the intruments were in general midi.
Step 2: I solo'ed each audio track and did a bounce to disk. This made one audio file for each track.
Step 3: I put all these files on a disk. Use a CD or Zip disk, whatever your PC can read.
Step 4: I copied all the files from the disk to my hard drive.
Step 5: I imported the midi file into a Pro Tools sequence.
Step 6: I imported each single track audio file into the sequence.

After all that I had a Pro Tools sequence that I could play on my PC.
These same steps should work with pretty much any MIDI/Audio sequencer.

Definately wait around to see if someone gives you a better answer.
This is all I could come up with.

Pro mix DJ needs help to sell mix cds.

Hello any1.I am a mix DJ that has worked in some clubs.I am 28 yrs old and have mixed for 10 years. My collection is the length of my house.I still buy new 12" to keep up to date and anything thrown at me gets mixed up.I have done numerous tapes over the years for friends and have now started doing cds.Any1 please help me to get this off the ground.I am a perfectionist mixer.I buzz off perfection mixes.Kinda an oldskool thing, but then perfect mixes are the right way to feel the music.

I worry about setting up a site and selling my cds out because of the illegal proceedings. But what makes the star djs any different than me who have there cds on the shelf at HMV.Hell 1/2 the time i listen to them on the radio, i often hear mixes go crap on them and think to myself,"if only theyd done that,it would have sounded better".Should i jus start a website up and sell my cds of excellent house ,mixed up by a caring mixer?

Re: Pro mix DJ needs help to sell mix cds.

you really don't have to start your own.
just go to rapstation .com
you can upload sample tracks
add albums
edit whatever you want at any time
and there is a store set up so you can sell stuff if you want.
it's CHUCK D's site so as far as i know it's free
i've been there for a minute/no charges yet

Advice on software

Hi,
I'm a beginner to music software, and would be grateful if you could help. I'm looking for 2 things.

1. Software to translate normal sheet music to guitar notation.

2. Simple software to lay down backing track - bass, drums, keyboard etc. in order to play guitar and vocals live.

Could you suggest anything? Simplest / most basic versions preferable. Thanks a lot. Andrew.

Re: Advice on software

1.
<a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Encore_win95/">Encore for Windows 95</a> - 'transcribe your music into guitar tablature with correct fingering and guitar fret diagrams'

2.
..give me a minnute..

saving streaming audio

Is there a way to save streaming audio from realplayer so that it can be recalled later? If so can this be converted to .wav files for burning to disc? Thanks

Re: saving streaming audio

Yes, this can be done. You do realise you could save the time and look through this forum for the answer don't you? This question gets answered every other day.

Anyway, you need <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/TotalRecorder/">TotalRecorder</a>

I did search for the info before I posted but I could not find what I was looking for.

Not entirely true

Your loose definition of "free" software is so general as to make your site worthless. Too much searching is required to find real "free" software. Demos are NOT FREE SOFTWARE!!!!! If you decide to handle JUST FREEWARE WHICH IS COMPLETE AND WORKS let me know. Until then I am a stranger to your shores.

leo

Re: Not entirely true

Yes, Leo there is a <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/freeware/">freeware section</a> on this site. There's several hundred programs there.

Re: Not entirely true

Geez! What a one track mind! Sure, I'm a cheapskate too but I still like to download demos and sharewares to try them out. That's what they're made for! Software companies still gotta make money. What are you a communist?

OMS, FreeMidi, and stuff like it?

I'm looking for software like FreeMidi or Opcode OMS so I will be able to access all my instruments on my keyboard instead of just the General Midi ones. Has anyone found something like this for the PC?

Mac User...

I am a Mac user and use OMS. It is very handy. I think Windows users generally use Hubbies Loopback device (SP??) although I think that might just be a Midi router..
