How to insert Track Detection Flags on CDR transfer
I have a few old open reel tape recordings of long nonstop night club mixes that I ‘d like to transfer to CDR before I retire my Reel player, I Know I can use CD Creators DAO feature to burn to CDR but I would like to insert “track detection” flags without affecting the mixes, exactly like today’s commercially available Trance mix CD’s.
Is there any way to do this with CDC, Cool Edit or any other software? Any suggestions? Thanks
Midi parameters
If you are having trouble with manipulating midi parameters,try this.
First write your riff/loop.
Then copy it to another track.
Set this 2nd track to the same channel number.
Highlight the copied part.
Click on logical in the functions drop down menu.
Then select which kind of parameter you wish to use (i.e. Pan)
Then the copied part will transform into midi data.
Open up the copy into key edit and you can manipulate away.
Noise Reduction tool for ProTools 4 Mac
I have just aquired Pro Tools 4.0 but I need a filter to reduce some clicks from vinyl records. Where do I find this plug-ins and how much does it cost.

A litle help please Mac Users?
I'm new to using Macs and am unsure about burning stuff onto CD's.
I want to record my own tracks on to CD to send off. Normally on a pc i just save the songs as .wav files and they play fine when the CD is listened to on a stereo but when I do this on the Mac they won't play on a stereo but will still play on a computer.
An one know what I'm doing wrong should the songs be perhaps saved as something else instead of a .wav file?

AIFF
The file format you want to save them as is AIFF. This is the Macintosh version of WAV files. As long as your saving your audio as AIFF's and making sure you've chosen "audio CD" in your burning program you should be all set.
Deleting measures in Cakewalk
Does anyone know how to delete one or more measures in all tracks in Cakewalk. By deleting I mean not just the contents of the measure but the measure itself.

<a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/VideoMan/">VideoMan is OK</a>. But programs like <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Vegas_Video/">Vegas</a> will blow you away.

cubase realtime
i have cubase 3.65,soundblaster live converted to emu aps.
i want to record from the mic input to cubase,but i cant get any deflects on the masterlevel,so i cant put an master effect on it (direct x or vst pugs).
i chose already in the audioengine the asp-asiodriver,and i have deflects on the monitor,i cant put an effect on this level either-

I dont quite understand what you mean.
If you want to playback and record at the same time you have to use the Multimedia driver in cubase.

EQUILIZATION
I need some pointers for using equilization. I dont know exactly how to use it properly. What settings should I be using on my different tracks. Im making trance music.

I am not a sound engineer or anything, but here is
What I know
Most EQ's have three levels Hi Mid and LOW if you
boost the Low EQ level you get more base
boost the Mid EQ level you get more MId
boost the Hi EQ level you get more HI and
vice versa.
The basic trick is to go with what your ears tell
you. If it things sound muddy you need less base
and so on.
If it sounds good to begin with. Avoid EQ all
together. Why ?
Every time add any effect you take away from the
original sound.
Go for it and do not be scared.

digital buzzing during playback of WAV files on an Xwave4000 sou
Hi there,
I'ver just built a new system - an amd 1,33G on a asus mb, and have a Xwave4000 soundcard. I'm pretty unhappy generally with the card especially after my faithful SB64 gave me such good service!
Anyway, the card plays mp3's, mpgs, etc ok. but when the processor in under high load, or playing wav's at any time - a buzzing similar to GSM interference comes over the speakers. I've installed the card correctly and the drivers which came with the card. I've even uninstalled it and reinstalled it twice with no luck.
Does anyone have any ideas what might be going on here?
I appreciate any constructive input you may have.

upload them in binary to whatever directory you want on the server where you are creating the web site. I suggest you make an 'mp3' or 'music' directory though. You can use and FTP program like Windows Commander or WS_FTP..

Does anyone knows who provides free webspace and also allow mp3's to be uploaded. I'd like to upload some remixes that I made.

Advice needed - first general/sequence software?
I have not done any music editing before but I am pretty proficient at PC stuff. I noticed that there are a lot of free bits of software, and before I go and buy something I wanted to try all this out.
I basically want to try creating tracks, adding effects, use different types of sounds (so using wav sounds as well as just midi), but I won't be linking to any keyboard or anything fancy like that.
Can you help me to find some software to get me going and give me an idea about what it is all about?

windows media problems
Dear Anyone,
seem to have a problem getting the freshly downloaded player to work
properly, it won't play cd's or anything including the
downloaded samples. All it does is stick on the spot like an album used to only faster you know sort of

extracting a portion of an audio track
Hi all,
I'm new to the world of working with music and computers together, and I am trying to learn about what tools do what job. I would like to extract MIDI tracks from an audio file (for example, pull the piano track out of a favourite MP3) and I'm wondering if a software is available that can do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Simple answer is you can't. Only a MIDI file contains data for each track.
In an MP3, or any other type, the tracks are mixed together, and there is no
way you can separate an individual instrument out as a MIDI track.

Yes you can!
Use your ears if you're a real musician and replay
them notes.
On a more serious note : YOU CAN'T.Not yet though.
You could filter your song down to the specific frequency
the instrument you want is at.And then run trough a pitch recognition
program such as vocoders, antares and so on.It's called the Fourrier transform
if you like maths. but really Good Luck!

I am relatively new to music transfer, and all I want to do is find a freeware or shareware program that does a good job of recording cassettes and records to mp3 format. It needs to be simple to use also.

Two stages:
1. Use something like Cool Edit to record the tape/record through the input of your sound card. Save the resulting file in WAV format.
2. Use a program like CDex to convert the WAV format into MP3.
Easy as that.

Sound distortion
I have a Fujitsu Siemens Euroline pc. When I try to record a sound file using Sound Recorder or RealJukeBox, the resulting sound is very distorted - whether I use line-in or microphone as a source, and whatever the recording level. Can anyone please advise?

copyright limits
Have I avoided infringing other's copyright when I reworked less than an eigthth of a CD track into mp3 file and had it uploaded to a homepage?

No you haven't. Copyright applies to the entire work, so even removing a small portion is classified as copyright infringement.

Format
I am trying to edit a cda format in Adobe Premiere but it doesn't like the format so I just downloaded a converter but I don't know if that is going to work. Why and what is cda. I never heard of it and am mp3 ok for Premiere? I also will take all the music into Authorware so I hope it is compatible with that program.
I also have one more question I have a cd with someone talking on it how can I edit it. Can I do that in Premiere and if so how?

CDA is the format used in audio CD players. It's like WAV but contains details of track title and so on which can be read by some CD players.
If you want to edit it, a program like CDex will convert it to WAV format so you can edit it. You can download CDex at http://www.cdex.n3.net/
