Cool Edit

Does anyone know how to use the filters provided in Cool Edit to raise the vocals on a track so you hear mostly or only the vocals? Brian

Re: Cool Edit

: Does anyone know how to use the filters provided in Cool Edit to raise the vocals on a track so you hear mostly or only the vocals? Brian

You can't really do this with filters. You need to have a multitrack recording so you can simply turn up the vocal tracks.

If you only have a mono or stereo recording then you can make the vocals a little more prominent by increasing the sprectrum at around 2K using the parametric equalizer function.

It's possible cause I already have one song done from someone else but I can't reach that person anymore ...someone told me about the filters (low pass and high pass etc ...) he said it was possible also... any idea? Brian

live music to minidisc or mp3?

I want to record my son playing sax at school and then burn a CD for his grandparents. Do I use a minidisc recorder or a mp3 with voice record. Please help. Thanks Francesca.

Re: live music to minidisc or mp3?

Dear Francesca,
In response to your question, I would first like to ask a few questions, the first is, how long do you intend your son to record for?, if the answer is more than a few minutes, then it starts to look like a Minidisc Recorder with a decent Instrument Microphone (Dynamic Mike) is the go. A Minidisc Recorder can record a live source recording for up to 80 minute now, not bad for a small portable digital format. also I am very dubious about the alleged quality of the compression process that M-Peg layer 3 (MP3) uses, in comparison to the Minidisc (ATRAC) compression process, which to my ears sounds indistingishable from a non compressed CD Recording.

Francesca, as for burning the live recording onto a CD, well theoretically its as easy as taking the Line Out jack from the Minidisc (which would be an Analog feed) and attaching it to your iMac or PC. Then setting up your computer with the appropriate sound recording software (Macs record into AIFF format, PCs in WAV format) and pressing record, then play on the Minidisc, whilst making sure the signal is OK. Then if you have a Software program such as Toast and a CDR recorder you can burn a CD which will play on any CD player!. You can also buy stand alone Audio CD burners which by-pass the computer element completey and which operate the same way as an old tape recorder, I have a Pioneer model myself which is just So easy to use.

Anyhow I'll say a big "See Ya Later" from the sunny land "Down Under", and I hope i've been of some help. PS, I'm not at all down on the MP3 format, but I just feel the lack of internal memory for recording sound on them is a drawback for your particular usage, plus the quality issue. Cheers Andrew Shields.

. tell me how to record live stuff on to minidisc

Re: live music to minidisc or mp3?

Just use the minidisk recorder then connect the 'line out' jack on the minidisk to the 'line in' jack on your computer and record it as a .wav file. Then you can burn the CD.

Just to make that a little clearer - you connect the minidisk up to your computer after you've recorded the sax (not at the same time as recording the sax) then you record the contents of the minidisk onto your computer.

In reference to what was said, how do you do that? I have contents on my MD player that I want to put on my computer. How do I hook them up, and what kind of program do I play the file into? Thanks if anyone could help:)

Record MIDI to WAV? Multi Track Recording? CD Cover Needed

Hello,

Is there a program out there that will convert MIDI files to WAV files? If So What?
Also, I need to record myself using my PC microphone, but when I do, and lay it over my previously recorded file, i sound far away.
One More, Is there anybody that does CD art, I can't draw, so I can't use a program on my PC.

If anybody can help me with either of these issues, that would be great, thanks.

Seperating voice from the music...

Anyone know of any programs that will do this? I want to be able to take songs and remove the voice so that I can use the background music to create loops.

Thanks!

Re: Seperating voice from the music...

okay, i've seen this question on so many boards over the years, and i've never replied to this question, but what the hell....the answer is always the same....someone may try to pawn off some cheap sht that SAYS it can remove the vocals, but the bottom line is, NO, there is ABSOLUTELY no way to effectively remove all the vocals from a track....you may get close with some crap that tries to isolate the frequencies the vocals are on, but it will never work....you need to download the instrumental, and if you want to remix vocals, you need to obtain the acapella. Once a track is "mixed down" which is any song you hear on the radio, on a cd, or in mp3, you can't pick it apart that way, because when a track is mixed down, all the different portions of the track are mixed together to create 1 single track, and that means that all the parts to the song are put together in a way that can't be taken apart....kinda like if you made a pizza, you can still take some cheese off, etc, before you put it in the oven....but once you cook it, (mix down) you can try to separate the tomato sauce from the cheese, and you may be able to do it a little bit, but there's always gonna be cheese in there....its all 'one pizza' rather than parts of a pizza....hope that makes sense....if someone tells you otherwise, they either don't know what they're talking about, or they're lying to you....it is absolutely impossible to completely remove vocals from a mixed down track....now if its a rock type or alt song, you could try to use cooledit pro's vocal cut, and it will do the best it can, but it'll never completely work. hope this clarifies.

Re: CAKEWALK

As far as I know; All the sequencers in the Cakewalk family have quantization.
In cakewalk pro audio 8 there are several different ways to quantize.

Re: easy cd creator

This is a commercial software package, and as far as I know there isn't a trial version available. If you do manage to download one, it'll be illegal.

Re: I need help!!!

Do you mean like a karaoke, but leaving the voice rather than the music?

If so, this is extremely difficult, because even if you manage to filter out the voice, a lot of instruments will still appear in the same frequency range.

mixed cds

i tried visual discomix and i think it's a great mixing program.i'd like like to find a similar program that allows me to record my mixes in a wave file.i tried with decks 1.0 but it doesn't work very well.does anyone know a program to satisfy my query?

re: mixed cds

There is a load of good software... What I use the most would be Sound Forge 5.0, Magix Music Maker 2000, Techno Maker etc.
Sound Forge, takes a while to learn how to mix with it but when you do, you'll most likely never use anything else. (well it doesn't take long to learn how but i takes a while for it to sound good)

Vocals

Is there any program that can easily lower the music and raise the vocals so that you can mainly hear the vocals. If so, what program and how do I use it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Vocals

You're one of the many that ask this question. I think webmaster should create FAQ section on this site.
Anyways, it's impossible to separate vocals and music. Well, you can remove vocals from the music but the quality of music that's left is very poor. There is no software that can remove music and leave vocals. Only thing you can do is play with EQ.

Audio editing help needed!

I need to repair wave files (songs) that are a bit distorted in its higher frequencies. If anyone can help me with that, I could send a small sample to show what the problem is. I have Cool Edit Pro and Sound Forge, already tried a couple of filters but it didn't work. Any help is GREATLY appreciated! Please e-mail me!!

I´m sorry but I do not think it´s possible to remake the distorted wav files with a good quality. The files sound distorted because the peaks have been cut and thus they are missing information in these areas. You can always lower the velocity of the wav file but the distortion will be there.

Question About Loop Creation

I just got MAGIZ playR deLuxe 2.93 which I really like But I need some help with making loops. I hate using CD made loops and rather make my own but The only loop creater I have is Fruity loops 3 which doesnt sound good when You save loops with Delay's and ambience. So I need a better loop creator for Making melody or Synth's, I only use Rebirth for some of it but would like to use more. What other programs can I use.

Cubasis VST: Problem with partition editor ...

Hello,

I`m using the pack CubasisVST 1.0r1 (Cubasis 3.7r2) under WindowsME.

The funny thing (hmmm...) is that wrong symbols are displayed when editing music: I get a folder instead of the G key, cissors instead of "#", glasses instead of "b", letter boxes instead of notes, ... a whole set of symbols belonging to the normal "widing fonts" ... funny but not really useful !!

Could somebody help me ??? Thanks a lot in advance !!!

Thierry.

Converting CD tracks to Wav or MP3 files
