Scorpions/Acoustica CD

I consider myself pretty proficient at audio recording and editing in an amateur status. This CD has really acted strange and has been impossible to Copy as a whole.
It will let me copy it all the way up until the last track during about the last minute. It records a skipping sound during parts of the last minute of the CD on just the last track. The CD is only 612MB and I am using 80min / 700MB discs. I have tried Nero, CloneCD, CDRWin, and even ripping with AudioCatalyst 2.1 (which will let me rip all 14 tracks successfully as WAV or MP3 but track 15 has the same skipping in it).
I was finally able to rip track 15 with Cakewalk Pyro to a clean sounding WAV file. I don't believe it is copy protection of some type that is causing this because I doubt they would waste their time and only protect the last track.

I was hoping possibly there was someone else out there that might have tried to record this same CD. I think it is some kind of strange defect in the original that burner programs have a difficulty with. By the way the original plays fine on boomboxes and home streos as well as car stereos.

Scratching

IS there a way to scratch music on the computer the same way you do with turntables???

Re: Scratching

OtsJuke is the best for you, like the same on SL1200's. Just move your mouse, or record presets for mouse movements and use them with Function Keys on keyboard..

Re: Scratching

<a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Traktor/">Traktor</a> is probably the best thing out there.

which software?

Good grief, had no idea there were so many programs available. I need assistance. Today our music instructor gave an assignment to transpose our "new song" for the week .... Need something to help "writing" the new score ... and/or something that will do the "work" of transposing the notes after I enter the "old" key and the desired key. And, finally something easy to use .... Suggestions?? Thanks

***SEEKING SHAREWARE ADVICE***

hello. i need advice on selecting software for editing my existing music. i am interested in a program that would allow me to add effects to vocals and other instruments, change track lengths and add loops. i am very new to this so if you know of an online resource that would answer these questions better, please let me know. thanks!

Re: ***SEEKING SHAREWARE ADVICE***

check http://www.geocities.com/fshawd/index.html

Re: ***SEEKING SHAREWARE ADVICE***

You want a lot don't you? Firstly, is your music in tracks (drum, bass, vox etc)? Because if it is you will have a far easier time of it.

Sounds like you need an <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Cool_Edit_2k/">audio editor</a> and possibly a <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/n-Track_studio/">multi-track recorder</a>. You can take it further than that will plug-ins that provide real-time effects in a non-destructive manner and so on. But you should start out simple.

aussie music

Found a great site for australian music. www.musicselection.com. I have been fortunate to order some of my favorite aussie artist from them. Service is actually fast compared to other import sites and shipping was only 99 cents to Usa, they are based in Canada. Rating of 9 out of 10 stars

Re: aussie music

I'll willingly eat my hat if you don't work for them ;)

Mixing Vinyls live

I have a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card on my Dell P4 and I am trying to connect up my vinyl decks and mixer. I want to be able to live mix, record and edit the sound coming in. At the moment, I have a converter that changes the 2 RCA cables coming from my mixer to a standard headphone jack, which then plugs into the analogue in socket on my sound card. I can hear the sound and alter the volume and levels using the Sound card controller but I can't edit save or anything like that. Nothing I have recognises that there is any sound coming in to the PC. Any-one have any ideas??

Thanks,

Sam

Re: Mixing Vinyls live

Be sure that you have selected right input for the program you'r trying to record , i mean you have to check it from volume control tool (windows) and click "properties" there's sth like "playback" and "recording" you have to choose "recording" and in that menu, sure to choose right inpur for recordings (in your situation it's line-in or aux input, so check that input) and now return to control panel, in multimedia properties sure to check "use only preferred devices" and look for right device is selected in section "recording" (mean your sound card must be seen in the area). now go back to your software and from options/preferences like places look at the selection of sound source and sound card, if sth wrong with them correct by choosing right sound card and input.

Choral effects

Hey, How ya'll are? I'm looking for a program that can generate vocal harmonies from a single audio voice. I know there are some hardware devices that do this, I think Zoom makes one and it seems like I've seen software like this but can't locate it. Thanks soooo much.

Cubase problem

I'm new with using this, but after importing a drum track, I can't record a second track over it without having a delay on it. I've looked in the settings and the delay is set at zero, and when you get rid of the delay, the track won't record. any suggestions?

driver problem

you want ot use, ideally, ASIO drivers for your soundcard this will reduce latency to perhaps 20ms - latency is your problem. Latency is the time lag created by your hardware/driver setup in the digital audio transfere sphere. If your card does not support ASIO drivers the next best to use would be DirectX then down to MME. You may presently be using MME or a software/emulated card like YamahaSYXG which had very high latency and is suitable for playback only.

Logic Audio FUN...

Lots of people have asked for free versions of software here (not necessarily crack and hacks) for replacing a 4 or 8 track hardware studio. I have on occasion recommended that they try Logic Audio FUN as it comes on the front of some music magazines.

I am therefore proud to announce that 'Computer Music" (english but available around the globe) has a version of FUN for both Mac and PC on this issues cover CD. (Nov 2001)

This is not an ad, just a pointer for those people that have asked...

rmx to mp3 converter

I'm looking for a rmx to mp3 converter. If anyone knows something please let me know.

Thanks

Re: rmx to mp3 converter

You won't find one as RMX is an encrypted format (I believe) which isn't meant to be copied to your hard drive. You can use audio capture software like <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/TotalRecorder/">Total Recorder</a> to do the job. It's not a perfect solution but it works.

I need a new digital soundcard!!!

I'm searching for a new soundcard with digital (co-axial or optical) input and output! Hopefully one that doesn't resample the original sound from my DAT.
The only ones I've stumbled onto are upwards of several hundred dollars and would like to keep the cost under $300. Any ideas?
I've considered a USB port A/D converter but have heard a few horror stories (namely the U2A). Any input on good USB A/D conv.?
Thanks

USB no no...

USB has it's uses although it's only now that companies are making half decent audio interfaces for USB. I say, if you have a spare PCI slot available then go that route or use IEEE1394 (firewire) which is to become more the industry standard as time goes on due to it's USB plug and play characteristics and it's lighting transfer speed. For your money though, I doubt there is currently anything around in the firewire domain.

Consider also that there is a difference between a "Sound Card" and an "Audio Card". Audio cards sole purpose is to in/out audio to and from the computer. Soundcards will do the same but often at lower quality with delay problems (not always at all though) and offer some card based synthesis. Audio cards have become the more serious choice unless you are moving into "CreamWare" territory, due to the fact that the quality is what people are looking for these days.

I wont try and recommend a audio card to you as the market is on fire at the moment. I would say have a look at products like the Delta 44 from midiman... Link below

What about USB CD Burners?

Hi Steve

Are USB CD Burners worth the effort? I just want to be able to archive all my mates' original music without the hassle of hauling a PC around.

I would but only if I had to..

I love USB but I don't like the restrictions with Audio if I had an alternative. Macs always have firewire ports so I would always go for a Firewire audio interface (or PCI). If I didn't have Firewire, then USB would be okay for CD burners and Audio interfaces in my opinion..

music production center?

I'm wondering what the best software for recording, writing, sequencing, arranging, mixing and basically everything else is on the market today? i would appreciate any comments or insights.

The mains ones...

... are full multitrack environments known as Virtual Studios, such as Cubase (steinberg) Logic Audio (emagic) Cakewalk etc etc... There are other program that could be considered more instant packages for the aspiring music maker that may or may not have any previous knowledge in music making and need a comfy chair to sit on. Fruityloops or Acid are the favourite's it would seem. Somewhere out on their own are packages like Reason (propellerheads) that try and give you the studio and all the instruments (albeit synth and sampler based). The people that I have met that use Reason are still in awe at it's possibilities.

If you want a general program that can record what you do and accomadate some of the finest software synth/samplers around, I would stick with Logic Audio or Cubase (don't know if cakewalk supports softsynths or not?!?) as they offer a more traditional approach.

This all depends largely on the type of music that you want to do and whether you are a musician as well...

LDB or Fruity or what?

[The body of this post has been reconstituted from replies so it may differ from what was originally written.]

Hello!! I've been using Little Drummer Boy as an audio sequencer(I'm completely uninterested in Midi) and an absolutetly EXCELLENT peice of software it is!! It's tiny (runs on shitty computers :D ) and does a good job!!(at least, I've been able to do some pretty amazing shit with it, 8D just using samples from a mike and the samples it came with...never mind all the sounds you can make with the FREE Stomper synth which is also lovely!!). However, LDB is shareware, I can't afford it(I can't afford anything..it's $12!!!!) and I'm DYING to export the tracks as wave files!!
*Does anyone know an audio sequencer that does that and is free?
*Anyone out there get a Reg. Code from Zap? Did he need you to advertise for him on a site? He hasn't responded to my requests all year.
* What does fruityloops do? A friend has offered to mail me his copy...worth downloading the demo to see? Could it replace LDB?
*Lastly, }:) although I'm normally wary of this sort of stuff, I'm thinking of looking into cracks and warez...worthwhile?
