Re: Mac AIFF mixer, anyone?

There is ProTools FREE which is worth a download. It's a really decent free multitracker.

Logic FUN is often free although I think you usually have to find it on the front of a music magazine like Computer Music (UK).

Check the file area for others...

p.s. try LIVE for OSX, if you use OSX. It's shareware but it lets you try it out.

cd text

i have an alpine auto changer in my car that supports cd text,it does not read text of cds.do all cds not have cd text

Re: cd text

Most if not all audio CDs you buy in the shops do NOT have CD-Text in them, but it is very easy to include CD-Text in CDs you burn yourself, as long as your burning software supports this.

getting sound on my laptop

my 5 month old dell lap top used to allow me to hear sample clips of songs on cdnow.com, amazon, etc....and now I can't bring up any clips. Was what I had only good for a few months...and what do I do now?

Thanks!

Re: getting sound on my laptop

You need to trace flow. Think about what you had while it worked, and what it would look like if you drew up a chart of it. For example, you mention getting your clips from cdnow.com. Well, that could be the first point of your chart. The last point would be you, listening to the clips. In between would go stuff like your sound card, your ISP, your modem line, your operating system, your playback programs, etc. But not in that order. Just jot down everything you can think of in the best order you can conceive. Now check up on each part in order. For example, maybe cdnow.com doesn't allow you to download clips anymore. or maybe your ISP doesn't allow large downloads anymore. or maybe your sound volume is set too low. whatever. just check off things on the list as seems logical to you. whenever possible, check out alternative routes. for example, maybe a new player will let you listen to clips that your old one wouldn't. that would imply that the problem is mainly related to your old player.

the tricky thing is, there are so many different possible states of being for your complete working or non-working system. since you don't yet know the exclusively working states, you need to eliminate all of the know incompatibilites. for example, if you know something is probably bad for your system, get rid of it. if you know something is probably totally necessary and good for your system, (like antivirus/defragmentation/checkup) then do it now.

for things that are out of your control, use logical deductions. don't waste too much time trying to discover the cause of the problem, just try to eliminate possible causes of the problem.

since you hardly told us anything about your system, this is the best i can do: tell you how i would approach the problem.

DigiFreq

I used to hang here more but now I spend a lot of time at:
http://www.digifreq.com/digifreq/discuss.asp

If you're a Cakewalk or Sonar user there's a lot of smart people over there to answer questions, one of them being Scott Garrigus writer of "Sonar Power" and "Sound Forge Power", it's his website. As Bob Barker would say "come on down". This has been a totally unsolicited endorsement of the DigiFreq network.

problems reading recorded CDs

Does anyone else have issues when trying to play a CD you have burned? Some players play without problems and others don't play at all, even though the music is clearly there. Is there a way to solve this problem?

Re: problems reading recorded CDs

It depends on how good the laser assembly is in the CD player. If it's a recent model, then the laser is probably powerful enough to be able to read CD-R discs, which don't reflect laser light as well as pre-recorded CDs. Older CD players, with less powerful lasers, can't read the data off CD-Rs, so they won't play.

The only possible solution is to try the audio-specific CD-R discs. They may be better...they may not.

SCSI Adaptor Error with JustBurn

I have a Compaq Presario computer, approx 2 yrs. old. It came equipped with a CeQuadrat JustBurn CD writer. The CeQuadrat JustBurn has always worked perfectly until I installed the new Windows XP. I can't open it now. Win XP looks for a SCSI and sends an error message when none is found. This computer has never had a SCSI. Anyone know of a patch or new software that will allow me to continue using my CeQuadrat Burner?

MUSIC CONTRACT

I WOULD LIKE TO FIND A STANDARD CONTRACT FOR MY HUSBANDS RECORDING STUDIO. HE IS CONSTANTLY BEING RIPPED OFF ON THESE SPECK, DEALS. WHAT CAN WE DO?? PLEASE HELP OR DIRECT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION...

Re: MUSIC CONTRACT

You should contact an entertainment lawyer. A good place to find them for free consultation is teaching at schools that feature music business and/or recording courses. That's where i learned about recording contracts. If that doesn't work, contact the Audio Engineering Society. They are an internation organization of recording engineers with powerful connections worldwide.

If you don't like their nerdy attitudes, then try getting involved with BMI and ASCAP and AFM. These are performing rights organizations. They typically help artists get royalties, and are specialists in issues of contracts. I personally respect the AFM for providing contractual guidelines for session musicians and producers. Still, i suggest getting in contact with an actual entertainment lawyer with experience in music business law.

good luck.

audiotape to cd ?

i see that it is a popular question here but i am walking around here and... where are the answers?
I own a PIII 1000Mhz machine.ATI all in Wonder Radeon with line in/out, Forte Media Sound Card,30Gb Hard Drive, Sony CDRW, 512Ram if you need to know.

Re: audiotape to cd ?

What's the question? Do you need to know how to connect the
tape deck, or which software to use, or both?

If you search for tape (CTRL+F), you'll find some answers.

Recording problems using Nero

Using Nero to burn a CD from a CD, I experienced, at the end of each song, a short repeat of words and music before changing to the next track. This only happens at the end during the last few seconds of the songs on each track. My CD-RW is a Buslink 16X-10X-40X.
Any help with this problem will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

How do I filter squeaks, coughs, etc. from music

I'm very new to the whole 'burning' process; am trying to transfer music from our
community band from tape to cd. I would like to do a little 'cleaning' in the
process....specifically I'd like to filter out:
Coughing and other extraneous noise from audience
Squeaks from reed instruments (sometimes mine! lol)
Instances where a certain instrument played at the wrong time

I (obviously) know little about equalization, compression...etc...can
someone explain in pretty basic terms which to use for each of these
cases.
Thanks so much for any help!

Re: How do I filter squeaks, coughs, etc. from music

There is audio restoration software on the site that can be of help. But try EQing out the noises first. Personally, I wouldn't hold great hopes that you're going to end up with a polished recording. Want the truth? Do another recording. If you've got people playing at the wrong time, you've got to work harder on your material.
