EASY C.D. CREATOR

I had been having trouble listening to the C.D.s I was writing, but I downloaded Windows Media Player which is powerful enough to read. My regular stereo C.D. player still can't read it though...it can read discs that I BURN on the computer, but not ones I write. Is there a way to beef up the writer so that they can be read by remote players?

Re: EASY C.D. CREATOR

Some CD players just don't like burned CD's there is not way to safely modify your CD burner to "beef it up"
Some CD players like the CD better if you "close the session"

Any weird compositional software?

Hi,
I'm looking for new ways to write music and I've stumbled across some cool freeware but is there any software that any of you use that you would recommend trying.
If you do could you please mail me Ady

Re: Any weird compositional software?

Jammer is a great program for musicians with writers block. Band in the Box is also top shelf. Both have free demos, so take a look.

Jammer and BB is good if you give them a decent input, but if you don't know how to connect chords and modulate, then they will play the same thing for you that they play for most people:
garbage in --> embellished garbage out.

need music aiff file

new to the game and don't have it for my iMAC need help

Your getting confused...

An .AIFF file is an uncompressed wave file similar in many many ways to .WAV on Windows.

There is no specific .AIFF file to be had as such. If you rip a song from a CD then it will more than likely be written as an .AIFF file by the Mac.

NOTE: If you do this in iTunes, it usually defaults to ripping Mp3's. If you are burning straight to a CD, then you should go to iTunes preferences and change the import encoder to AIFF instead of Mp3. Changing an .AIFF to an Mp3 afterwards is easy, changing the Mp3 to .AIFF afterwards will never bring back the quality lost during the Mp3 encoding. You have been warned.

HELP!!! How to get full info on a label?!!?

I am trying to find a piece of software that will import CDDB data and create a CD-Label (the part that sticks on the CD) that has all the track information on it. I have tried many programs that will bring in the track info for a separate "back cover", but never one where i can fit all that info on the label.
thanks!

USB audio capture comparison(UA-1A,iMic,Telex..)

I need a USB capture device for my laptop. Extensive(and I mean *exteeeeeensiiiive!*!!!) research leaves me with these options within my price range.

Anyone got any feedback on these? Particularly any comparison/argument for one over the other would be really nice!

Also, arguments for spending more (e.g. UA-3/UA-5, Swissonic, Egosys..etc) are also welcome!

Any contructive for against arguments would be wonderful! And a Sample CD worth 50 quid to the most eloquent argument!

Re: USB audio capture comparison(UA-1A,iMic,Telex..)

There are more. I don't think you mentioned the Emagic offering. There is also a ProTools LE USB interface as well although I don't know anything about it.

I haven't used a USB audio interface and therefore only gauge what they are like from what other users say. One important thing is latency. The iMic isn't made for low latency and some of the other cards maybe in the same boat. Latency doesn't generally effect people that aren't planing to play over something they have already recorded. If your not multitracking, you may find the iMic just the ticket considering it's low price.

What you buy depends on the latency, the ins/outs and the quality required of the interface. 24bit is highly recommended these days for multitracking and serious editing within a much higher quality environment. If you can live with 16bit then go there, but I recommend you spend the money on the 24bit stuff.

The main thing after considering the above would be the quality of the drivers on the given platform. If you have considered the iMic, then you more than likely have a Mac. I don't know if it's works with Windows. It might do. I have heard bad things about the Roland stuff but that was some time ago.

Not a lot of help and not a qualifier for the sample CD I suspect... ;0) Just a point of view.

Good Luck and let us know which way you eventually go.

to get music downloaded

I would like music downloaded by, Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, jay z, kid rock, DMX,JLO, JaRule,Busta Rymes, Aaron Carter, pink, Shikira, creed, craig david, shaggy, and Usher

You need....

1. A computer
2. An internet connection
3. a suitable file sharing program, www.zeropaid.com has about 50 different progys to try out.

It is really that simple.

Finalizing C.D.

I'm trying to create a C.D. with the C.D. creator on windows98, and the program seems to go through, saying "C.D. created successfully", but I can't hear anything when I play it on the player. Andy said to "finalize", but nowhere on the program does it say anything about that...it does have a "closing session" portion that happens automatically, which I have been assuming is the same as "finalizing". No? C.D. player reads program info., and goes through the motions of playing, but no sound.

Re: Finalizing C.D.

'Closing Session' is probably the same as Finalizing.

What player are you playing it on? A hifi CD player? Check it in your computers CD player and see if it works there. If not, then it's more than likely to do with the quality of your CD burner, the CD's your using and finaly (or more likely) the CD player not be beefy enough to read the information you have burnt.

Realjukebox to MusicMatch: id3 tag problem

Prior to installing and using MusicMatch I was a user of RealJukebox Plus and had my Realjukebox Library properly tagged so that all artist, album, genre, track title, etc. was easily viewed and my music library easily navigated.

I installed music match and added all the songs in my Realjukebox Plus music directory to the musicmatch library. However my artist, album, genre, track title, etc that was viewable in my Realjukebox Library is not all viewable or the information is changed in my music match library, even when I select that those fields be viewed in my music match library.

When I click on a track in my musicmatch library and select "edit tags" it gives me a prompt requesting that i either use the old or new tag information (id3v1 vs. id3v2).

THIS IS THE INTERESTING PART:

The old tag information has all my proper tags in each of the fields, but each field is grayed out. When I then select the old tag none of this grayed out information gets placed in the fields in the edit tag window and i either have to use super-tagging or manually enter all that information.

Please explain what's going on and let me know if there is a way I can avoid having to use super-tagging or manually entering all those fields for my thousands of songs!

Thanks!

writing wave files onto C.D.

I have cakewalk music creator software, and I think I've finally figured out how to play my midi instrument into the computer, fine tune it, convert it to audio then to wave. But nowhere in this process have I been able to properly write the music onto a C.D. My most successful attempt was writing the wave file onto C.D.; the C.D. creator says that the writing was successful, but when I play it on the windows player, I can't hear anything. The song information is there, but no music. Moreover, my regular C.D. player doesn't even recognize it as having music on it. CAN ANYBODY HELP ME PLEASE???? THIS IS THE MAIN REASON I PURCHASED A COMPUTER IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!!!!!!

Re: writing wave files onto C.D.

Has the CD been finalized? If not, there won't be an index track, and so Windows won't recognised it as an audio CD. Note that you'll need to do the CD in one go, since regular CD players can't play multisession discs.

Suggestions on software?

Hello. I just purchased a mac to create music on. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of what some good software would be to get for it. I listen to a lot of aphex twin, squarepusher, boards of canada, warp records stuff. Also, are there any good online tutorials about how to make create such sounds?
Any suggestions would be helpful
Thanks

Re: Suggestions on software?

I am under the impression that Aphex Twin (one bloke I think) uses lots of strange instruments or samples that I suspect he makes himself. In this case, some sort of sampler is in order. I know Warp records but that's about it.

There are a few options depending on your direction. An Midi/Audio mulittracker is a good option. There are various versions from different companies, the mains ones being Digital Performer, Steinbergs Cubase and Emagic's Logic Audio. There are various versions of the last two to suit budgets, go read up on them.

Logic has a very clever plug in sampler option, the EXS24 which works from within Logic itself. It sounds excellent and is worth a try if your looking at software sampling. Cubase will run a cut down version of the EXS24 although it has it's own (arguably better) sampler, Halion.

All of the above is either usable or not, depending on your Mac and you neglected to tell us what model it is.

There are many VST ( VST instruments and plugins work with Logic and Cubase etc.. and some stand alone VST host applications) instruments and stand along software synths to try, most of them have demos that should be checked out. I recommend from experience, M-Tron (mellatron simulator), Pro52 (prophet 5 simulator), Abysnth ( just try it, it's amazing), Reactor (dabbled with but confusing for a novice programmer), B4 (hammond simulation)

Check out the file area on this site for a Cubase demo and

http://www.midia.co.jp/DEMO/INDEX.html

for a Logic Audio demo (version 4.6 I think).

Also, check out Reason from Propellerheads (highly recommended) and Live for OSX (as it is quite amazing as a jamming type of music application).

Good Luck

Karaoke

Is there a way to make back up copies of karaoke cd's including both the music and graphics. I want to be able to protect my investment.

CloneCD... and others

Use cloneCD, and when you read the image file, have 'read subchannel data from audio tracks' checked on. Write from the image file it creates. This will only work if your burner supports reading / writing in the subchannels....

Good luck :)

I used it but it will only copy the music and not the graphics. Any other suggestions.

A Suggestion.

Without reading down the page, I still suspect that over 80% (that's being generous) don't come back for their answers. Maybe it's because they think that there is an email notification system here.

Whatever goes through their minds, one thing is for sure. Over 80% of the typing that goes on here is a complete waste of time, (other than for the people chancing by to read some of the replies for their own benefit). The sensation of talking endlessly to ourselves is getting really really tedious and something needs doing.

This is a well attended forum that needs to be updated in some way to include email notification. Either that, or a massive sign is required to explain that the common rules of a forum require that people answering or asking the questions are all here.

Anyone?
