Webmaster u should read the messages under this thread

Totally agree with SteveR.

The script of this forum is, i believe, from Matt Wright's WWWBoard.
WWWBoard was once a masterpiece in forum scripts but is now
history (the script was last modified in 1995!)

Many other forum scripts are available in the Net since 1995. Some
are somewhat evolved from WWWBoard yet with many additional & useful
features (eg Email Notification.) A few are even free/shareware, which
one may, if s/he chooses to, upgrade to full version with a minimal payment.

Personally, i find WebBBS easy to install, highly customizable (by both
administrative & users!) & splendid in tech support. It's a shareware &
a payment of the US$50 registration fee will get you the Adminstrative
Script (optional) to make it a full version.

Below is a link to their support forum. For the record, i am Not related
to WebBBS, except that i had a copy of WebBBS installed in my homepage to
replace my old WWWBoard board January this year & during the 3 months'
of use i find it very satisfactory.

With a well attended forum like this, i fail to see why one would refuse the very
small amount of investment to make this a much better & more useful place for ALL of us!!

: Without reading down the page, I still suspect that over 80% (that's being generous) don't come back for their answers. Maybe it's because they think that there is an email notification system here.

: Whatever goes through their minds, one thing is for sure. Over 80% of the typing that goes on here is a complete waste of time, (other than for the people chancing by to read some of the replies for their own benefit). The sensation of talking endlessly to ourselves is getting really really tedious and something needs doing.

: This is a well attended forum that needs to be updated in some way to include email notification. Either that, or a massive sign is required to explain that the common rules of a forum require that people answering or asking the questions are all here.

: Anyone?

Anyone else??

Sounds fair.

I know it's easy for us to say 'change the forum application' but it does need doing.

Registering to post on a forum is no great hardship and I think it makes people think about what they post, cracks and all.

I attend other forums and they suffer little of the abuse that is evident on this forum.

We're getting somewhere now. Cheers Tarty...

Anyone else?

Re: Anyone else??

Hi there

We have considered the suggestion of email notification in the past. I personally think it's a very good idea. However, we're working on other projects at the moment - such as the <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/cgi/rd/hqmemt1_click/rd.pl/?http://www.hitsquad.com/membersonly/">Hitsquad Membership Program</a> - which takes more priority. Believe me, I support your suggestions. All good things come to those that wait, as they say.

Warm regards

Thanks for coming Geoff..

Cheers for that Geoff.

I understand the need for the member services at this stage of the internet's evolution.

It's still important however to keep people coming to the site and, I suspect, the more they feel a part of it, the more they may feel inclined to join your fine membership area, eventually.

Keep us posted wont you..

register to post??? u don't wanna do that.

I am SICK of being forced to register on various boards round the net just to post. I have registered SO many times I have forgotten the details and not bothered going back. You would get 1 post a day if it went register - if that.

Re: register to post??? u don't wanna do that.

Jon, I agree with you. If we had any registration-based system for our users of this messageboard who want email confirmation of replies to posts in this forum, I'd argue that it would be optional. I know where you're coming from. I get sick of entering username/passwords as well.

How Do I Connect Multiple Modems To My PC

Re: modem

I think you really need to direct this question to a board which deals with Windows, since it's not really a music question.

expressions

I've been looking for a program that will allow me to compose music for the computer, and will also play it back with good expression like crescendo, descendo, retard. etc. I found some that will do crescendo and descendo, but not when I tie the notes together. It just jumps to a different sound at a barline. Is there anything out there yet that can really imitate an orchestra?

Oriental Notation Software

I am looking for a notation software like Music Time or Oncore but compatible with Windows 98 Arabic Edition that could notate from Right to Left and if possible have a quarter tone capability.

thank you for responding

Recording wav files onto CD

Hi there,
I believe there is software that you can use to ensure that when you are burning a cd with wav files the sound of each track is the same, ie, you don't have to keep adjusting the volume because of the different sources of the files.
Many thanks for you time
Regards,
John

CD&G

Is there any software that lets you see the graphics on a CD&G on my PC?

Seek, and you shall find.

Yes, there is.

Question for All: What do YOU do with your music that you make

So many of us have questions. So, like, are all of us musicians? Where do you all perform? Do you make CD's for your friends? Is anyone here in a band? Anybody on a good label?

Re: Question for All: What do YOU do with your music that you m

I make electronic music for fun and enjoyment - although I'm not a prodigious writer. My creativity comes in spurts. I play drums in a jam band and we do a little recording from time to time. Again, it's for fun not profit. We've all got jobs and women to deal with, so we've grown up a bit and dropped the idea of touring out of a mini-bus. None of us are interested in trying get any kind of contract.

Re: Question for All: What do YOU do with your music that you m

I suspect there are all sorts. It appears that the bulk of the people here are users of programs like Fruity Loops and Acid, although many others seem to know more about the production and engineering.

I suspect there are quite a few guitarists and the occasional keyboard player but they are hard to see through the mindfield of people trying to make the best tune they can out of mixing other peoples music (or burnt out ideas) together into their own. It's just what I see...

How make my SVCD production copy-protected?

How can I make my SVCD production copy-protected?
(hard to cd-copy by user.)
I will appreciatte any info.
I just need cd-copy , and/or image file protected

Re: How make my SVCD production copy-protected?

Basically, there isn't an easy way to protect a CD. You only
have to look at the ease by which DVDs and CDs are copied, and
the difficulty the music industry is having making copy-
protected CDs. For images, the best you can do is to place a
small copyright mark on it, or bury a watermark in the image.

I want to record FROM stereo cassette TO computer cd

How do you record FROM portable stereo cassette TO
computer CD?

Re: I want to record FROM stereo cassette TO computer cd

You can get a simple cable from an electronics store. I can't remember it's name but if you explain what you need, you'll find the cable is pretty low cost. Once you have the cable, plug one end into the cassette player and the other into the IN port of your sound card.

You'll need a reasonable amount of disc space as well as an <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/AUDIO_EDITORS/">audio editor</a> to record the music. I use Cool Edit 2000 myself. If everything is working out, the music on cassette should be audible out of your PC speakers. Once you are happy, hit play on the casette player and record on your audio editor. You will then end up with one big WAV file at the end of your copying session. You can split that WAV into songs using your audio editor. Then you can use your <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/CD_BURNERS/">CD Burning software</a> to burn to disc. That's how I do it anyway.

Browse thru the .CAB files on your Windows installation disks, t

Actually, you might still have a player called mplayer.exe on your disk. It's the old version. On my win98SE system, both versions were always there. Other options are installing winAmp, or any of the other freeware audio-visual players. Besides, wmp has known security flaws in it, allowing hackers to browse and modify your system while you use it. There are bug-patches to fix it, but you have to download and install them, which can be tricky and is NOT fun.
Also, QuickTime makes good software for mac, and they even have some stable and nice PC software. Also handy if you need to open mac files.

i hope it works out.

p.s. - if you like Basic programming, there is a copy of QBASIC hiding
inside your windows installation disk too.

line in

i ve been trying to record onto my pc. I can t get my line in to produce sound. please tell how to use the line in jack properly, also in reading many responces how do i find out about my sound card

Re: line in

Might be something to do with your settings. Check Settings-Control Panel-Multimedia-Devices-Line Input devices to see if you have got it set to actually do line-in. You should be able to find out what your sound card is via the control panel. Once you know, do a web search for more info.
