Re: HELP with Anastasia True Type Font

: I bought some years ago Music Time Program for Windows from Passport Designs.

: It used to work fine. This week, I reinstalled it to my computer. But I am having problems with the Anastasia True Type Font. I can't install it. I don't know why.

: Is my Music Time Program useless from now on? What I do now?

I have had the same problem however it does appear to work if you keep the origonal disc in!

Re: morpheus software.

did you register a screen name to Morpheus? If not, do that, and you'll be able to search for music. I had Morpheus before, and it gave me this problem too many times. I have KaAzA now, it's almost exactly the same as morpheus. Download it at www.kaaza.com

Look for Gvox's web site.

Looking for Pro Tools LE for PC

Anyone know if you can get the Pro Tools LE software on its own, or do you have to buy one of the Pro Tools interfaces? I am using Pro Tools Free, but it doesn't allow for many tracks, and the studio I work at has a Mac, and Free isn't cross platform supporting, so I can't take work home with me.

What software to edit music cds

Hello,
I want to edit dance music on cds I have. I would like to speed up or slow down the tempo without changing the music key. I would like also to delete a long introduction, enhance or reduce the base, and maybe time the music and fade the song at the end. I have Easy CD Creator and Windows ME.

I know very little about this technology so the software I buy should be relatively simple.

Please recommend what should choose.

Thanks,

Bruce Whaite

There are several "DJ" type programs out there. Under "dj/mixing" on the hitsquad/smm you will find several. Take a few for a test drive and see what you like.

MIDI to AUDIO to WAVE to CD volume

When I play back the CDs that I have written from MIDI
files, the volume is extremely low. Is there a way to
increase the quality and especially volume of the finished
product?

When it is in wave format, before you burn it, you can normalize it with a progr4am such as cool edit or sound forage, but it would be better to increase the volume of your midi synth, or what ever your sound source is, just below clipping.

Using OMS/Sibelius/iMac

I am using Sibelius w/ OMS on an iMac. I can get it to record notation directly from a keyboard. But, I can't get any sound. Suggestions?

Re: Using OMS/Sibelius/iMac

i've got the same problem in logic audio, i've been told it's a sound card problem ie; no sounds on a mac card, need an external sound card, i've been told, but i'm still looking for another solution. If you sort it before me mail me.

harmony assistant for windows download

I have tried 4 times to download this demo. Each time it states "download complete" Then I attempt to open the file and it starts setting up, gets about halfway through and then tells me that the download was not complete that I need to attempt it again. Has anyone else had this problem?? Am I doing something wrong???
If it matters - I am in the USA

Thank you

Re: harmony assistant for windows download

Harmony assistant is a really nice piece of software for the price.

Did you make sure to down load all the files you need?

For a first install of the trial version of the product, at least program, one set of language files, the light sound database and templates are required.

So the file on the down load site is probably truncated. try to find it on a different site.

copyright info inquiry

I receive conflicting information regarding copyright issues with synchronizing popular music titles to video for purposes of resale. Specifically providing a service of creating home videos for individual sale. Does anyone have a core source of info to clarify? And can I as has been suggested by others, manipulate the integrity of a piece of music avoiding liability of copyright infrigement?

Thanks

Re: copyright info inquiry

Hi there

I'm no expert in this area so bear that in mind. But if you want to use popular music in your videos, there is an overwhelming liklihood that you'll have to licence the music in order to legally use it. And even in that case, not every artist or publisher allows their music to be manipulated by others.

Realistically, if you're doing something for you and a few friends - you aren't going to attract the attention of the RIAA or whomever. But if you're going to use the works in public performance and try to make a buck of it - do the right thing and get legal permission etc to use the music. Otherwise, you could end up in legal hot water.

what do you mean by "register on screen?" It may be a bad speaker? Can you switch the left and right? If a mini jack isn't pressed in all the way you will get only one channel.

Mac vs PC

Yo, i'm in the market for a new computer, and, in terms of digital recording, is there a wide spread bias as to which is better?

Any info would be greatly apreaciated.

Re: Mac vs PC

I'm no Mac expert, but how easy is it to upgrade the gubbins
in a Mac? They've always seemed to be a fairly closed system,
unlike the multiple PCI slots in a PC.

Comments?

Andy

(P.S. As to which is best? The PC!!!

Alright, Bill, you can let go of my arm, now..)

Re: Mac vs PC

If you have a mac, then get a pc. If you have a pc, then get a mac. Personally, I would get a mac. They are more stable, even though there is less freeware for them. They are also easier to (re)configure. Besides, future versions of MacOS X will likely be able to run other operating systems easily, since UNIX systems can do this, and MacOS X is a UNIX variant.

The new macs also feature "firewire" which is just a wider and faster USB/SCSI type interface. It's also an opportunity to buy a computer with a DVD-R drive! Just make sure that you get accessories such as a ZIP drive and floppy diskette drive so you aren't stranded if you need to replace files when (inter)network connections aren't available. (Like if you need a backup copy of your system files).

PCs are cheaper, but they are much more buggy and have lots of historical design flaws. The software engineering for them is trickier, too, so there is a lot of buggy freeware out there for them. Macs, on the other hand, let you get to important system files easily and quickly using strange tricks to hide info from you. If you get a mac, as you should, be sure to get the following FREEWARE files:

DiskCopy 6.3.3 (for making disk data image files and archives)
ResEdit 2.1.3 (for making special customizations to files/programs)
NIH Image (for great cheap graphics editing that fits on a diskette)
MacSoup (for browsing USENET news:// and filtering the results)
ProTools FREE

Be prepared to regularly clean up and maintain your system if you want it to keep running well. On macs, running these utility programs is much easier and less buggy. You should delete unneeded files, run anti-virus/trojan/worm programs, run diagnostic system fixers, make backup CD-ROMS, and defragment your drives regularly. Do it multiple times, so that you have trouble-free backups that are guaranteed to have NO viruses/trojans/worms on them. Also, be sure to save copies of your programs' preferences files while your system is clean and working, so you have backups of them that match your actual, current, working system. Put them on a CD-ROM so that they can't be lost or corrupted.

ALWAYS read the technical notes of software before you install it! Otherwise, you may be creating a complex new compatibility problem with no known solution. If programs you have installed are consistently troublesome, DELETE them and all of their copies! That will ensure that your system will be safe and that backups won't recreate old issues again. You'd be surprised at how much BAD SOFTWARE there is out there. Good software doesn't cause errors and is created by intelligent, conscientious, polite people. If the documentation for a program sucks, you can be the program is just as offensive if not worse.

oops! Correction of previous post

Macs, on the other hand, let you get to important system files easily and quickly NOTusing strange tricks to hide info from you like PCs do.
