How you doing. I found your message from a google search. I produce beats and I'm working with some well-known artists at the moment. I play five different instruments and so all the music I produce is sample free. Let me know if you're still looking for tracks and if so, email me your info and I'll get a CD to you to listen to and choose tracks from.

I was perfectly happy with wmp 7.1, I already had lots of music on my HD (5 gig). Then at ony night, I shut down my pc and start it up 1 hour later. None of the music will play anymore (can't find media etc etc, no soundcard etc etc, and so on.
Does anyone have the same experience? what to do?
I've had a dream, in which BG was importing all this music again in my pc, he had some electrodes on his thing and didn't know when I was going to use them. Probably when he imported the wrong songs from my 250 cd's, but he didn't know which songs that would be...
Lost your media files, and sound card?

Lost files! This is one of the major reasons to backup a Hard Drive, so if your system hiccups, all is not lost.
However, most probably all the media is still on your hard drive, as long as you have not defragged, or overwritten your files.
I have seen several warnings, about mp3 viruses on several of the download, (peer to peer systems) but will presume you have an up to date antiviral program, with the latest pattern to protect against this invasion of your computer.
Have you used window explorer to see if you’re the folders you store your music files in are still there, not worrying about your player for the moment? If they are there then, I would install another hard drive. Then back your 5 Gigs of music file to the newly installed hard drive. Being certain you do not have a virus, that just changed the file extension.
There are several virus/Trojans in the wild that change the MP3 files to hidden files, that appear to make them disappear: It changes the attribute of the original audio file to a hidden system file and creates a copy of the virus self in the filename of "<Filename>.vbs" (For example: with MyMP3File.mp3, the virus makes a copy of itself as a file called MyMP3File.mp3.vbs). Therefore, all "mp2" and "mp3" files can be recovered from an infected system.
These are older viruses, and current Anti-Virus patterns would have caught this and prevented the actions - of robbing your system of usable mp3 files.
If you are not using a Anti-virus program, you can down-load one, as most companies have 30 day trial program, however I would go to trend.com and use their on line checker. You do not want to download things if you must recover the files, http://housecall.antivirus.com/ does not put much on your hard drive like other anti-virus sties, and it will scan your system.
There are several virus in the wild that can overwrite, your c-MOs and that will create a loss of your sound card… Hope this helps… as a start.

'Overloaded' EasyCD Creator CD sound
Hi
I want to copy some of my mp3's to CD. When I use Easy CD Creator (v 5.3 basic) the sound seems to play back overloaded (sort of loud, marginally distorted, top frequencies shrill).
Since I like really good sound, I really want to change this!
I guess(?) that this might be to do with some normalisation feature?
Is there any way I can adjust the level?
I seem to get good sounding results ripping at 320k, and I am happy with CDEX doing this. I think therefore the problem is with the CD transfer.
Any suggestions re a cleaner CD sound?

plugin error with audiogalaxy update?! help!
i've noticed that when i try to download ANY programs in the past several months i get a plugin error message. i already had audiogalaxy so i didn't really care. but now, it needs to be updated, and i can't DL the upgrade b/c it says plugin error: plugin found but failed to initialize. what do i do?

I HAVE EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM,I EVEN SENT MY PC TO BE FIXED AND IT STILL HAS THE SAME 'PLUGIN FAILED TO INITIALIZE' MESSAGE. IT COULD HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FACT, THAT I FORGOT TO MENTION THIS, AMONG THE MILLIONS OF OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THIS HUNK OF JUNK...LOL.
I WOULD REALLY LOVE TO KNOW HOW TO FIX IT TOO THOUGH. IT'S BEGINNING TO REALLY ANNOY ME!

IP logging and tracing is ineffective against certain types of
(now very popular) malicious hacking. "Bots" are what many
will can them. A bot is a like an advanced computer virus,
except that it gives control of your infected computer to a
remote and anonymous user, usually via chat or IRC rooms.
Hundreds or thousands of infected computers can be simultaneously
remotedly controlled by a single computer. Perhaps there is no limit
to the number of victims simultaneously controlled. The nasty thing
about bots is how difficult they are to find on an infected system. They
are extremely chameolonic, and copies typically show up in the thousands on
infected computers, each infection with a different name.
Basically, bots are the manifest summary of decades of hacking and virus
prorgramming. Personally, I don't like them. You can imagine how upset
I am that KaZaA and other file communities are ripe with bots and similar stuff.
Another sick thing is how people are trying to use bots to make money off of
the masses of computer users. This is basically somebody's old science project
taken to all-time lows via the capitalist greedy bastard syndrome.
Even when the bots are used for supposedly harmless marketing purposes, the systems
at hand are always at risk of parasitic infection from others because of the inherent
security breach.
I think I accidentally acquired a bot only a few days ago by downloading an IRC
program for the first time. Boy was I foolish. I have never ever run any IRC programs.
It's no coincidence that the very first time I do, I get infected. IRC and bot invasions
go hand in hand. About the same time, I started seeing some really odd posts on this
board and elsewhere. I don't know that my system is being used to spoof IP addresses or not, but
I have this intuition that whoever infected my system noticed that I post here on hitsquad a lot.
Of course, I could be totally wrong about all of this. Still, I figure it's worth discussion.

We're aware of many reasons why the IP addresses
might resolve to the actual domains being posted
but we don't take seriously the idea that it is
the sites themselves.

The truth about cats and dogs
>Data Base. A collection of information. Implies storage in files on tape
or disk. Small databases tend to be relational while modest to large ones
tend to be tree structured. While they may be thought of as a large collec-
tion of index (3x5) cards, databases are most effective where maintenance is
via Transaction Processing and information extraction is via Report Writers.
If a key or pointer scheme can be used, databases can be much more efficient
than "barefoot" methods. Databases tend to be like alligators, cute and
manageable when small, but they eat dogs and small children if allowed to
grow.
>Data Driven. A machine or program controlled by the data it processes.
Specifically, a machine that can reconfigure itself on the fly to optimize
throughput. The first such machine being the Navy's Enhanced Modular Signal
Processor (EMSP).
>Data Encryption. Any method for encoding information in order to protect
sensitive or proprietary data. There is no "perfect" scheme except one, the
"Write Once Pad", which is an "Off-Line" technique. Given enough time and
resources, anything less can be "cracked." On the other hand, Louis XIV's
"Great Cypher" held off determined professionals for more than a century,
long enough that the messages it protected were useless (except as historical
footnotes).
>Datagram. A class of service on packet switched networks roughly equivalent

er of the traffic. Implies flow control.

>db. Decibels. A logarithmic scale reflective of the response of the human
ear to sound energy. Usually referenced to 1mW @ 600 ohms (dbm) in telephone
work. On this scale, -60 dbm is undetectable by virtually everyone.

>DCE. Data Communications Equipment. What the RS-232-C folks call a Modem.
Modems are supposed to use FEMALE plugs and send on pin 3.
>DeBugging. The process of program purification. AKA Software Testing.

products are compared against it. Functionally equivalent to a formal stand-
ard. Set up by forces in the marketplace. Examples: Selectric Keyboards,

contents. Other memory management methods work on a "JOB" basis swapping

chines" (a user's entire environment), an IBM technique.
>DES. Data Encryption System. An NBS standard algorithm for data encryp-
tion. Suspected of being "cooked" so that NSA can easily "break" it. The NSA
insisted on a 56 bit key word which fits the algorithm poorly (it was de-
signed for a 128 bit key). AKA ANSI X3.92-1981
>Dial-Back. A simple, effective access control scheme based on the "Don't
Call Us, We'll Call You" principle. A user initiates a session by calling a
"tickler" line, keying in a code number (usually with his touch tone phone)
and hanging up. The computer crosses the code number to an authorized tele-
phone number and calls the user, who then logs on normally. Very good, but
not perfect ("Call Forwarding" fools it).
>Digital. Said of information. The information is coded as the presence or
absence of some voltage, charge or the like at some specified location at
some specified time. In the case of serial transmission, digital information
can be "regenerated" (reshaped and retimed) without affecting the information
content of the signal, a distinct advantage.
>Digital Filter. A composite analog/digital/analog device emulating a purely
analog function (filtering). One of the first widely used applications of
DSP (See Same), digital filters have been enthusiastically accepted by the
tele- communications industry for equalizers and line conditioners, applica-
tions where the additional hardware cost is offset by the advantages of long
erm stability and freedom from thermal drift (the "filter" is really an
algorithm which neither ages nor drifts).

double bass sounds
Hey digi-heads, got a question maybe somebody could answer...I'm not exactly new to the scene here, but I have been having a hard time finding/creating/stealing that perfect double bass sound. I don't want to sample it...too limited...any ideas where a simpleton suck as myself could find a program or something to do this? Oh yeah, the perfect double bass sound in my opinion is Fear Factory-esque....thanks.

Hi,
I don't know what kind of noise, rollingstone.com's audio ommits, but if its a regular kind of noise, hiss, crackle, pops, etc, then there are noise reduction plug-ins in the form of VST and DirectX, as well as other forms that you can use, using host applications like cakewalk, acid, protools, n-tracks, anvil, quartz, cubase, logic audio, etc.. OR you can use the noise reduction plug-ins that come with software like Cooledit pro, or Soundforge.

wav onto audio cd
Hi,
this is all pretty new to me, so this is probably a STUPID q, but, I have some wav files that I want to burn onto CD and listen to on a normal CD audio player/stereo; what format do they need to be and what software can I use to convert them ??
I tried them as wav files, but it does not play.....THX - IA, Mark

You need to make an audio CD rather than a data CD, the difference being that a data CD will burn the files in exactly the format they exist (WAV) but the burning of an audio CD will convert the WAV to CDA (CD audio) to it can be played on your stereo. And make sure you use CD-Rs not CD-RWs. Try CDMASTER, Nero, Tunespark, CDWin or any of the CD burners on this site.
