Logic 5 and Seasound

I find myself in a precarious situation, using two things that are now obsolete, Logic 5 (Win98SE) and a Seasound Solo interface. Hence, I can find no support for my problem. Help, please, if you can.

I am having a huge problem with latency and audio inputs. My audio is actually recorded a split second after I play it, not just monitoring. I have tried all the driver updates, ASIO setting, buffers, etc, with no results.

The obvious solution would be to scrap Win98, Logic, and the Solo, but that would be damn expensive.

Am I totally screwed??

NI Kontakt

Does anyone know a site where I can download the manual to Native Instruments Kontakt.

Guerilla video clips

Hi there

I'm considering grabbing a heap of video and slamming them together over some fast, hardcore punk - explosions, riots, etc.

Anyone know what s/ware would be best for this as I have a celeron 400 w/64MB RAM (win98). Making music has never been a problem, but I'm just wondering if I need more grunt before I seriously try making a vid.

Conquest of the Apes

In the past, people have made videos on lesser systems, but you will need to be willing to make some sacrifices in order to keep things working smoothly. With 64MB of RAM, for example, you might need to reduce your monitor to 800 x 600 instead of 1024 x 768. You might also need to reduce to 256 colours instead of thousands or millions. If you have an AGP, you will need to get to know it well.

Some features will be helpful, others will be harmful. For example, some 3D acceleration is helpful for 3D graphics, but if you never use 3D graphics, then it's probably just gonna take up memory and slow you down.

Probably a big issue will be having enough storage space for your video. If you can overcome that, then it shouldn't be so hard to keep plugging at it.

Be sure to download Memory Max and set your Registry to always unload unused .DLL files. These two memory enhancements will allow you more RAM to work with, and prevent crashes.

PS - Don't try to deal with too high of a frame rate, or your system will bog down very quickly and you'll run out of hard drive space fast too. And another thing... don't try to do anything too complex if virtual memory is turned on, or you'll spend days waiting for the computation to get done while virtual memory thrashes your hard drive.

the atari dosen't read the PC format,
can anybody please give me some ideas of how i can get around this problem.

thank you very much

Re: ATARI MIDI SOFTWARE

The Atari will happily read the PC format if the diskette you are using is a DD (double density, tricky to get hold of) rather than the standard HD (high density) diskettes..

Apart from the last few Atari's made (Falcon etc), they employed the current DD disk drives.

Try formatting the disk on the windows box (I used to do them in DOS) as Windows is too stupid to read an Atari format (or rather MS just couldn't be bothered). Format it as a 720k disk and make sure it's a DD disk. It's worked for me in the distant past.

Re: ATARI MIDI SOFTWARE

look for atari forum .com

you will find details of transfer cables to use for pc <> atari resorces
o map drives lan etc etc cdrom
form just an old 286 /386 set with a hdd and a boot disk or dos running

and the app made to join both machines

a little slow but for reading into atari hdd
is very usefull

look for atari to pc link in google

Yamaha AP-U70 and USB connection to record onto computer

Has anyone had problems setting up the USB connection from the Yamaha AP-U70 to Windows 2000 Professional system for recording purposes. The analog rec out function, from the AP-U70 to the computer, works fine through the onboard sound card I also have, however I can't seem to get any sound coming through when I select 'USB Recording Device' under the 'Preferred Recording Device' tab in 'Control Panel/Settings/Sounds Multimedia'.

Any suggestions welcomed.

Re: Yamaha AP-U70 and USB connection to record onto computer

Yamaha has a beta version of a recording program, also with Cakewalk Sonar 3 you can do recordings, and with Cool edit pro it is possible.

As far as I know, you should contact the software author of MIDI2WAVE either via email or get his phone number from his site. This site only provides details about the software. It doesn't directly sell the software.

how to burn songs from cds to one cd?

i'm thinking of compiling my favourite songs from my cd collections into a single cd.
how do i achieve this?
rip to mp3, then use s/w burn to cd-r?

thanks

Re: how to burn songs from cds to one cd?

Yes, Rip music - (Laws are unclear - at best - Motivation of the big five is clear) and do it at a level for your planned use. Most people are not able to hear a difference other than the few fortunately people with crystal clear hearing and genuine musicians (occasionally a music critic is among the privileged.) I am not one, but have discovered I can not tell the difference in a 160Kbps in the computer with moderately expensive speakers.

If ripping to make a weekly MP3 CD for your car, then I would settle on a 192Kbps if you have a decent mp3 CD player in your car. Our sound systems are far better in the car than most computer sound systems.

If you do not have an MP3 CD player in your car, that should be your next investment in having a life. I find it great to have about 10 hours of music in the car on one disk, to change folders as my mood changes. I do not want to search and change CDs for two songs and another CD for one song.

Win machine try CDEx above on this site under rippers

Re: how to burn songs from cds to one cd?

That depends on the computer you have, the CD burning application you have etc etc..

Ripping to Mp3 and then burning to a normally playable CD is nonsensical. Mp3 is a compression routine and will reduce the quality of the audio. You want to rip songs to individual wave files (.aif - .wav) and then compile a playlist (order of songs) to be burnt to a CD.

Audio compositor is a pretty nice sound font editor. You will need a wave table sound card as well such as a SB Live

VST Cracks...

[The body of this post has been reconstituted from replies so it may differ from what was originally written.]

Hi,
Was given a number of VST Intsruments yesterday (cracks..)and copied them straight to my VST Plug ins folder. Unfortunately, I cannot 'see' any of them when I open Cubase (VST/32/5.1. Any idea's why ????
Halion, Absynth, etc, etc.

Re: VST Cracks...

Hello Dick

Using cracked software is always fraught with these kinds of problems. But you can't exactly get customer support, can you? Aside from the fact that you're NOT PAYING for high-quality s/ware, what do you really expect?

I just hope you have up to date anti-virus software and trojan detection software on your PC - or you run the risk of being taken for a sucker!

Just buy the bloody software!

just give him the bloody money. why pay? it is you who are a sucker. i run nothing but cracked software, and have happily been creating quality music for a year now.
again - if no money, why go without? here's an idea - how about creating some sort of co-operative with low annual membership fees, but with a lot of publicity, that employs the best developers there are. all members would get bundles of software annually for trivial money, and performance could be measured yearly.

Re: VST Cracks...

Nick. You are not reading the warnings about cracks. People like you don't deserve to have their questions answers.

A Question to you all..

Following the success of the Email Notification system here, I have noticed one improvement that I think could help everyone out.

When you post a message, the option to be notified by email is just an option. I am generally convinced that it's in peoples interests to click the box but I don't feel this is taken advantage of by many thread starters.

I threw the idea of having the email notification defaulting to ON rather than OFF and it was suggested that this be thrown at the forum to get some feedback.

I think default ON. Vote away purleeessee...

I vote for email notification to default to on. It's a swell idea.

I like the idea of notifications being on by default
too, but I don't want to take this step unless there
is general support - so come on people have your say,
do you want it on or off by default?

Jason.

Re: A Question to you all..

Ho hum... I suspect everyone that speaks English must be on holiday.. ;))

Might be worth leaving it a couple of days and see if anyone picks up on the thread. If not, at least it was thrown at the forum out of respect. Might be worth just going for it if possible.
