Re: Is my computer to slow?

One other thing to try, for anyone who's still interested, is to uninstall the Yamaha soft-synth that gets installed somewhere along the line.

Nuke it, and your problems may be over!

Is this a good music downloader????

I am wondering if this is a good downloader... so is it???

project help

DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT : Input methods have changed little in the last few years. Most people still access their computer through a keyboard and mouse, although the arrival of Personal Digital Assistant (PDAs – e.g. the Palm Pilot) technologies have also introduced touch screen technology to a wider audience, and users with disabilities have access to some specialist input devices. This project seeks to exploit the availability of a growing range of different ‘sensor’ devices to develop new and exciting computer applications that utilise a variety of ‘sensory data input’ methods.

The aim is to develop and evaluate a prototype pair of ‘smart pants’ – trousers equipped with sensors that will convert a range of sensory data (e.g. the wearer’s position relative to something else, or the degree of tilt the wearer is at relative to the floor, or whether the wearer is sitting down – even how hot the wearer is) and use that to drive an application. Whilst such ‘smart pants’ could have a variety of uses, this exploratory project will target young children (c. 3-5 years), who can get frustrated trying to manipulate conventional input devices, and who are not known for their ability to sit still for any length of time! The project will require the student build and evaluate a pair of smart pants and a simple multimedia application to be controlled via smart pants (e.g. an application that manipulates some simple sounds and images according to the data being received by the sensors – encouraging kids to learn simple movements in return for the reward of a change on screen, a variation on the ‘Simon Says’ game).

Re: project help

sounds like you should talk to the STOMP people or D'Cuckoo.
I'm sure famous Mr. Craig Anderton would know exactly how to make a pretty cheap interface. PAIA electronics might also sell something like that (sensors, not pants)

Almost any good Notation software will do this.

Check out the programs in the Notation software area

connecting protools on mac with gigasampler on pc through a Kurz

I cannot get my gigasampler to run through my Kurzweil. When I hit the Kurzweil keys, it is registering on the Protools screen ( the little EQ lights up). It will record the midi--but I cannot get any sound through my speakers. I do not know what I am doing wrong. I am not using a mixing board, I am going in and out of of the protools, the gigasampler (which is in/out of the PC) and in /out of the Kurzweil. I want to blame my Kurweil, thinking I am not getting some switch turned on or off. I do turn off the Local and everything. Please help, this is so frustrating. and I am so close to beginning recording .THank you!!!

Re: connecting protools on mac with gigasampler on pc through a

Please tell me what audio card are using on PC and in MAc

Re: connecting protools on mac with gigasampler on pc through a

if your audio input meters are responding to the music as you say they are, (in the ProTools mixer,) then your problem is most in ProTools.

I assume when you say, "the little EQ lights up" that you mean the pseudo-LED near the EQ lights up on the mixer screen.

I don't have ProTools with me, so i can't tell you much. However, i do remember that ProTools has multiple output options. Be sure to check all your menus for anything relating to output or monitoring. If you are sending digital audio data (SPDIF) out of proTools (via a soundcard or external AD/DA or converter) then you should check to see if digital output disables analog monitoring.

Check your DAE settings, and check to see if turning MacOS Sound Manager on/off works. If you have extra audio hardware installed, you might not need the MacOS Sound Manager to handle audio monitoring. On the other hand, you audio hardware might not have monitoring capabilities. Look in the manual to find out for sure. Anyhow. It's worth checking to MacOS Monitors & Sound (and Sound if it's installed) Control Panels. Make sure that all of the volumes are set correctly, and the input source is set correctly.

On my system there are three settings: CD input, microphone input, and none. Without the correct setting, I don't hear anything. Check the mute buttons and the volume faders. If you have SoundSprockets installed or anything else like that for games, maybe you should disable it and restart.

Anyways, your setup sounds pretty cool. By the way, I'm not sure if Local should be off on your Kurzweil or not. I think it depends upon how your MIDI is set up. If you DO want to hear sounds from your Kurzweil, I think LOCAL should be ON. if you just want to use the Kurzweil as a MIDI controller, then it should be off (it is just used to send MIDI data).

I don't know what the MIDI setup on your Mac is like, so i can't help you much with that. I'm used to using ProTools just for multitracking audio, not for MIDI. But I admire your ambition.

Audiophile 2496 and Motif 7. Are they good for Electronic music?

Hi,
I've been making music for about 2 years now with begginer's equipment (Soundblaster live, Yamaha DJX-I Synth). I want to upgrade and I've been told that if I wanna get serious with my music, whic I'm extremely serious about, I should get the "Audiophile 2496 Soundcard" and the "Yamaha Motif 7" or earlier versions of it. I make electronic music (trance, eurodance, progressive) and I want to know the following "Please":
1. Are these 2 items profesionally good to make music?

2. Are they good to make electronic music? (If you don't know this one is ok)

I am just making the switch from a first generation digital Fostex multitracker to a 4416. I have never used a digital board before. Did you ever get any replies to your note? If so, can you share them with me? Thanks. Ray Podjasek, Denver

reading files as a wav when a store bought cd is inserted in pla

When a friend of mine puts a store bought cd in his computer, it is read as a wav file. When I put a cd in my computer, it is read as a cda file. We both have razor lame encoder/decoder. As a cda file, it will not encode, but as a wav file it will. Why does his read the cd as a wav file , but mine as a cda file.?

Whenever I am in trouble I always run to you and I am thankful to have a prompt reply and help.
Time I'd like to know if there's a software which convert wma to wav/mp3. It has to be freeware otherwise it'll only convert 80% of my files (as the shareware programs do). Could you help me out again with this? Please, tell me what converter I can get free and where, ok?
Thanks in advance!
