Best price on Acid Pro 3.0

Trying to find the cheapest possible sourrce to purchase Acid Pro 3.0. With the xchange rate of US$ to Ausssie$ being what it is - and hearing BestBuy is $199 compared to others $399 - it's surely worth a look around. There is only a couple of stockists in Oz too. Thanks

Reply: Search through www.zdnet.com/superstore and it will lead you to www.cdw.com/shop - where Acid pro is $US188.41 There is 10% gst and customs duty (around $AU40 I think) plus p&p but this is still cheaper than a direct sonic foundry download costing $US349. Also if you're not on the sonic foundry emailing list it is well worth being on it as they sometimes have great price reductions on new versions of programs etc. Is this helpful?? Good luck. Acid pro is fantastic. Regards Nigel

Looking for discontinued software - "Professional Composer"

I am looking for a copy of Professional Composer to run on an Apple with system 7.1. Unfortunately, the software is no longer available. Any ideas?

Help with editing pleaseeee!!!

My daughter is going to sing a medley in a talent show. we will use the artists voice also. the medley is 7:45 long and i have to edit it to around 3:00. that isn't the problem. we do have the parts we want in the song, but, its to get it to sound decent and not so cut off. actually the edited version is on a movie but i can't get it like that. is there a software or program that I can use to edit it on here, or as i am making the cd on a pc? please help me, my daughter is 8 yrs old and really wants to do this. thanks :)

Cutoff??

How do you mean, "Cutoff"? It sounds like it might be you editing... Cutting between one wave and another can be tricky as sometimes you can create a clicking noise at the edit point. There is a thing called "Zero Crossing" that is the general point that you are recommended to edited at. Zero Crossing is a place where there isn't any signal so there is nothing to make the clipping noise. In practise though, it's often a case of living with the click and then zooming in on that section and silencing the click (very high edit zoom). Sometimes the clicks can be tiny in length but create quite a noise. Removing that whole clicking section can often be done without adjusting the perceived tempo, if you see what I mean. If you are desperate for it, I might consider doing the edit myself although you will have to email me and we will discuss it further and in more detail.

playing music through a network on another computer's sound card

mp3 to aif decoder for MAC ?

Is there a decoder for mac ? mp3 to aif ?
If an mp3 files is converted to AIF, does the file enlatgen ?
I have a freeware decoder which does the conversion, but the
aif file is half the size of the mp3 file.
Sounds backwards to me.
Can somebody offer some advice here >
I will certainly appreciate it.

Easy...

What is the decoder that you have???

http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/MP3-to-AIFF/

try that one as it works for me although I tend to use an audio editor called Peak that will load any audio file.

Loosly speaking, The uncompressed .aif/.wav file is ten times the size of an Mp3. Once an uncompressed file has been converted to Mp3, there is some loss of quality. Converting it back to an uncompressed file will not 'recover' the quality that is lost although the file will still be of the original size.

point system

Where or How do I find out about the point system when producing a song/track for someone?

how i can convert vst plugins to DXi plugins?

helloe, how i can convert vst plugins to DXi plugins?

Re: how i can convert vst plugins to DXi plugins?

: helloe, how i can convert vst plugins to DXi plugins?

There's a program called VST-DX adapter by Fxpansion that will allow to use all your VST instruments and effects in any DirectX, DXi compatible program. It's really easy to use and works great.

Re: how i can convert vst plugins to DXi plugins?

There's also another program called VST Wrapper available from www.spinaudio.com
The lite version is free and is limited to using only 1 plug-in at a time or you can register (for a fee) and get the full version allowing you to chain several VST FX together.
I have been using the lite version VERY happily for some time!

Best of luck!

Vinyl converter

I am looking to find music software that would record vinyl in mp3 format for use of converting. Is there anything like this out on the market.

Re: Vinyl converter

read this:

Re: Vinyl converter

I use Sound Forge to record with and then use MP3 Wave Converter. It is a great little program, doesnt cost much (none if you have a warez key or contact me) and is simple to use.

Downloading/burning MP3's w/CDG encoding

I have read the FAQ's, and this particular question is not addressed there.

I have a CD burner that will not read the subcodes for CDG. I want to download MP3's with CDG encoding and burn them to CD, but I don't want to replace my internal CD writer. Do you know of an external CD-RW that Is CDG-capable?

I would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Re: Downloading/burning MP3's w/CDG encoding

There is a list of CD-RW drives that can read sucoding at http://www.tyrannosoft.com/faq-pb.html

I've not looked at it myself so I don't know if it covers external drives as well.

Piano Discovery for MAC and USB Midisport 2X2

Is there any way to configure Jump Music's Piano Discovery for the Mac to work with the USB MidiSport 2X2 midi interface instead of a serial port midi interface? I am using The USB Midisport 2X2 connected to a Yamaha MIDI keyboard on a Powermac G4 with USB. There is no problem using programs like Band In A Box which supports OMS However I don't believe that the Piano Discovery software supports OMS. Is there some way to configure Piano Discovery software for use with the USB Midisport without using OMS. Apparently Jump Music no longer is in business so I can't get any info from the software side.

Hum...

I never did figure out how you can use pre OMS software with a USB interface although I will make a point of getting to the bottom of it.. I think there maybe a way with IAC busses although I know little about it.

Try the below link and try the answer again. It's a good place for sensible Mac questions and although it's not music specific, there are a lot of mac users that frequent. Check back quickly for answers though as it's very well attended...

Let's start at the very beginning

If a 'techo nerd' is at one end of the scale, then I'm at the other! I have a little musical knowledge and a head full of musical ideas. The fact that I can manipulate this electronic whizzwhammery sufficient to post this message indicates that I have enough savvy to realisr that the musical potential of this technology must be mind blowing. However where the h*ll does one start? I have attempted to download various programmes but they all assume prior knowledge. Is there anyone out there who can point me in the right direction? If so I would love to hear from you.

Re: Let's start at the very beginning

If your serious about it, then I would do what I did. Like the guy before said, make sure you dont jump in the deep end, but this is a good option. Get hold of the SBLive Platinum 5.1 soundcard, its a good card with option to use soundfonts (this is a good thing). It also comes with Cubasis VST and Recycle Lite (not the full versions - but good enough) totally free. Cubasis is a fairly easy sequencer and Recycle is an audio manipulation application. Get the card working OK, read the PDF manuals on these pieces of software (a couple of times too), and also anything else that you can find on these gizmo's ! A MIDI keyboard is also a good purchase to make ! Slowly everything will makes sense if you keep at it. This option is probably harder and obviously more expensive than trying a Reason demo, but its better long term. Good Luck !

Re: Let's start at the very beginning

You can make music by sequencing samples and loops together. <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/SonicFoundryAcid/">ACID Xpress</a> is free and will be a good place to start. I don't know if you can play an instrument, but it's of no great importance. A lot of people want to make music but don't want to spend years learning how to play, record and produce. I don't blame them as there's a lot more to life than the music thing. Still, if you want to get something happening pretty quickly, ACID is the way to go as well as <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/FruityLoops_win95/">FruityLoops</a>.

Tell me about your childhood?

There are many ways to attack the computer music world but I can't help thinking that a background in tape machines and old microphones is such a great bonus when it comes to understanding a computer based music program. Most, if not all of them, stem from real recording studio and synthesizer (etc...) experience and therefore have always attempted to follow in the footsteps of the world of musical creation 'before' computers started assisting in the studio/music making process.

You can therefore imagine that there are programs that allow you to record track after track in time with each other as a multitrack environment (as with a studio multitrack tape machine). There are stand alone programs that can emulate synthesizers and samplers (recording keyboard) effectively. Some of these synthesizer/samplers programs can be literally plugged into some of the multitrack programs as you would plug a synthesizer into a mixing desk. Other programs allow you to edit audio, reverse it, apply effects to it etc etc etc...

There are also programs that can offer a whole synth/studio experience as with 'Reason' by the propellerheads. That genre of program provides software synthesis, drum machines, mixing facilities and a basic multitrack recording environment in one program. Lost of people tout FruitLoops as their favourite, or Acid which are variations on the 'All in one' music making package although some of them require you to user parts from other peoples music or loops you have recorded yourself.

If I were you, I would start off really simple to understand musical construction. A program like Reason might be a bit confusing first off (and maybe not condusive to the type of music you aspire to making...;0) but not as confusing as running a full multitrack environment such as Cubase with VST synth plugins as some people might suggest.. Download yourself a demo of Reason and have a play. If you like it, buy it and read the manual and you may find that those tunes in your head start coming out of your speakers...!

Tread carefully and slowly. Jumping in at the deep end may make you unduly feel that you don't have the aptitude.

Sounds for Waldorf MicroQ/Korg MS2000 or Z1/ Roland JD-800/

Just wondering if anybody out there know where I can get hold of some awesome new sounds for any of my fine synths-babes:
Waldorf Micro Q
Korg MS2000
Korg Z1
Roland JD-800

Whether they're free or I gotta buy them from a company, I don't mind. There just ain't enough hours in the day to spend programming these machines completely and although I ain't a "preset-kid" I like building up HUGE sound libraries for my synths.
Thanx.

FruityLoops 32 BIT?

I was wondering why when I export a wave or mp3 file in the 32 bit formats they end up all distorted? Is this a sound card problem?

Re: FruityLoops 32 BIT?

well not in the export faze that's done independantly of the card in the digital domain but yes your card may not be able to play 32 bit sound files! Or maybe it's the player u using?

Making existing music faster.

Anybody out there know the name of the software that could make the existing music that we have to become faster in the beat and tempo without changing the sound pitch? Thanks a lot in advance :D

Time stretching..

I use a Mac and can't recommend software unless you specify your computer.

What you need is a 'Time Stretching' facility. This is at home in Audio Editors, some of which you will find on this sites download area.

PG Musics' Pianist series.

Unfortunately they have discontinued this great product. I have vol. 1-5 but need vol. 6.
I have several other great out of print programs that I would gladly trade for Pianist VI by PG Music.
Look forward to hearing from someone.

Looking for a copy of Jump! Music's Piano Disc 3.x

Good day all,

I've tried to purchase the latest version of Jump! Music's Piano Discovery software for the PC platform version 3.x with no luck. I am now looking for someone who has the software and as many components to the software as possible and wouldn't mind uploading a copy of the software for me. I have the original keyboard and software but it is version 2.0.

Any help would be greatful. I would purchase, if I could find.

Thanks,
Frank Thomas

Software advice

I'm a physics professor and am trying to identify a piece of Macintosh shareware for use by my students. I am looking for a program that will do something very basic - play a single note. I would like students to have control over pitch, and volume. I would also like them to be able to choose the instrument generating the note (e.g., flute, violin or even a simple sine wave). I would prefer that the program do little else so that it has a very simple interface. Can anyone offer advice on software for the Mac that might fill my needs?

Sounds like what you really need is a signal generator. There's a really simple one for Windows made by a company called mda, they might make a similar product for Mac and it would cost little or nothing. Also try a web search for signal generator and also look on this site.

Softsynth

Mark,

It's tricky to answer as there is so much out there that tries hard to impress the listener. Finding something that makes simple sounds without being complex is sometimes difficult.

There are two ways to look at this.

The mac has a built in GM (general midi) soundset that includes the standard set of instruments, This is used in Quicktime that is evident when you drag a Midi file (note information) on to the application itself. This sounds set can be controlled from a midi sequencer although it's not an easy thing to setup unless you have a program that will do this for you.

The other way is to employ a software synthesizer like the Pro-52 (address for demo below) which emulates a popular synthesizer from the analogue era. This is a good angle as it provides a representation of the real instrument with mouse clickable keyboard and the ability to make you own sounds with true elementary synthesis. Normal sounds are included... ;0). Also, if you had a Midi keyboard with a midi interface connected to the computer, you can select that as the source information for what note will be play (etc...) and therefore you can play it as a normal synth.

There are other basic synth packages (such as the Virtual Sound Canvas) but they maybe more than you need. Pro-52 isn't free nor is it shareware, but for what it is, it's 'very' affordable and well worth a look.

God Bless

Steve...R

p.s. check the file area on this website as you will find a bunch of downloadbles in the softsynth area as well as the midi area. There is a program somewher that will run the quicktime sounds with an onscreen keyboard but I can' remember the name.

2 computers/2soundcards, network, can they play different things

I have 2 computers networked. I want to use the old one as an Mp3 storage and playback device. I control that one through a LAN. When I choose music on it, however, it plays through the computer I use to access the network. Is there a way that I can get the music to play through the other computer, which is connected to my stereo?

Thanks,

Mike

Re: 2 computers/2soundcards, network, can they play different th

Yeah there's always something special, you can use "norton pc anywhere" to use remote pc (mean mp3-storage-player) as your computer, it simply brings the other's monitor into yours,so easy to use the remote one..ehehehe try it, you'll like it.

Muzical Wizard Pattern Software - HELP PLEASE!

I purchased a legitimate copy of "Muzical Wizard" software about 2 years ago. It came on a floppy disk with manuals. I've recently purchased a new computer and found out my floppy is no longer readable. I tried getting in touch with the company that made the software, but I believe they are out of business. Does anyone have a copy I could get from them? I'd be happy to pay for it. I do own this copy legally and have the receipt to prove it. Thanks for your help

Re: Ripping to WMA 7 WMA 8 and Real All in One.

I doubt you'd find that there would be a program that could do this as WMA and RM are in direct competition with each other. You should find WMA-related software <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/FORMAT_CONVERTERS/">here</a> and Real software <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/STREAMING_AUDIO_MEDIA/">here</a>.
