Re: Reason Software?

If all you want to do is use loops, try the free version of ACID. Called ACID Xpress, it's really easy to use. Find it via the search page.

: I would like to create music on my computer using existing sound loops and maybe a keyboard. I would like to purchase Propellarheads Reason software, but I was wondering if there is any better choices. I downloaded the Reason demo and it looks very complex. I think it would take me forever to learn it (not having any mixing experience). I'm willing to try to learn it, but somebody might have a suggestion of a simpler or cheaper program that does similar things.

How do I make XMMS sticky in KDE?

I've checked the sticky option in XMMS but its not floating when I change to other virtual desktops. Is there a way that I can make it sticky in KDE?

cakewalk: volume control (in console view)

my problem is with setting volume levels during playback or recording. i am confused about how to set the faders in the console view to get a good balance (kind of like a rough mix) and keep them there. when i set the faders in the position that i am satisfied with on a project and rewind to the top of the song,it changes. i've tried solving this problem with automation but i don't think that that is the solution. then, i wiped the automation with cal. is there a way to use "update" that i am not understanding?

downloading problems

hey people, i got this problem when i try to download some of these programs. You know that page where it says "Your browser should automatically download in less than 30 seconds, if not, click here" ? Well, when I get there, at the bottom of the browser, it always gets frozen on "setting passive mode". And I can't download the programs because it never gets past that step. Has anyone ever had this problem? Can anyone help me?

Re: downloading problems

What browser and operating system are you using?

I NEED A PLACE TO GET MUSIC

i need a place to get music that will actually work and i dont need to use an mp3. I want something that will also play the music cuz the aol media player isnt working for me!

Re: I NEED A PLACE TO GET MUSIC

Ignore the commercial music tripe and tune in to some internet radio stations or better still, go to places like NowWhereRadio.com and IUMA.com and listen to some real people trying to make a name for themselves.

When a file sharing system goes down, people tend to whine (not suggesting you are...) as if they have no more music to listen to.

There is far more music from people off record company books than on them and most of those people are giving their tunes away for free.. Give them a listen and expand your musical knowledge..

ANY LUCK, I TOO AM INTERESTED IF YOU HAVE HAD ANY LUCK. I HAVE JUST GOT INTO THIS AND THE KIDS ARE HAVING A GO. PLEASE LET ME KNOW THANKS

Re: cdg karaoke files

Yes I do know...
You need to get onto the mIRC circuit.
The best way is to download a program called Excursion.
You need to set it up to join a particular network...
Some networks with karaoke sites are ... novernet, sandnet, chill-out & outsiderz.
Type /list and you'll see a list of channels on that network.
The karaoke channels usually have the word 'karaoke' or 'cd+g' in them.

Re: cdg karaoke files

Definitely use the excursion program and get on the novernet channel (mirc).
The room is called Karaoke-realm
You will have to register your nick otherwise they will kick you out of the room, just talk to one of the ops there, they are very helpful and will assist you in registering.
It's a great channel and I Have gotten lots of karaoke music there. Do some reading as it's not as easy as you think to burn them to cd.
Only certain Cd burners will support burning of CDG...
Also, if you use winamp, you can download a cdg plugin so that you can play the file and you'll get the graphics to go along with it. Good luck!

Cubase

Can anyone tell me why I can't connect more than one
keyboard through cubase vst. I am using midi connectors through the gameport. I have standard sound card. I have tried using all the thru commands., but nothing seems to work. As soon as I connect more than one keyboard the sound goes dead.
Please help
Samantha

Re: Cubase

Where are you connecting these keyboards? How many midi ports do you have? What type of soundcard ('standard' is not specific enough).

You can connect more than one midi device to cubase but you have to understand the different midi channels and assignments.

You need to explain more about what you are trying to do. Do you want to play both keyboards at the same time??

Louder?

How can I boost the input / playback using a Roland
Audio Canvas (bypasses my cheap sound card, records
directly to HD) and Cool Edit Pro? Currently, I max all
volumes, but still must amplify my recordings in Cool Edit.
Do I need an external amp? Will an amp record the sound as loud as I play it? If an external amp will
boost my input, what is a good brand value? Can you recommend a minimum wattage?

Re: Louder?

What are you recording through the Audio Canvas?

The level of that signal might be the problem... Don't go amplifing input signals unless you know exactly what your doing. Maybe you need some preamplification in the form of a proper Mic preamp, instrument preamp.. Depends on what you source signal is..

: If I were you, I would find a music shop that will take back a product if you don't like it. I would consider you budget and then think about a decent enough mic preamp and maybe a condensor mic. I looked at the Roland mic and it looks okay. Dynamic mic's are great for many things but don't have that clarity and fullness of a Condensor. Maybe worth a look at a Rode Nt1 or Studio Projects C1 with an M-Audio AudioBuddy preamp (two powered mic pre's in a small box, well regarded quality for the price). I suspect the quality from that combination will stand out over your current equipment. Find that shop and check out those tools. They are budget but good quality considering the relatively small amount of money required.

: If you follow my lead and end up with a condensor and a decent preamp, then you will need to consider room acoustics. I know it's not your current problem, but I would consider lots of sheets, duvee's and blankets around the recording area.

: I did some recording in my bedroom recently for a singer songwriter. I used a Rode Nt2 with a relatively budget Focusrite preamp. It's nothing special but might give you an idea of what you could come up with with the above suggested equipment. The tunes aren't mixed yet so there are obvious errors. Listen to 'Same Old Thing' as it's just acoustic and vocal into my G4.. No flashy studios or special room acoustics, just good 'ol plain blankets and rugs.. (Correction, I used a AKG451eb as well on some of it.. Nice mic.. ;0)

Re: Louder?

: It's a shame that you didn't give the name of the dynamic mic as it could have as much to do with that as the volume that you are playing your instruments at.
< It is a Roland DR-20 IMP.330 Hyper Caroid. Yea or nay?

: There are a few variables here and due to the fact that I would have to be there to give a final opinion, I can only suggest things.

: I would insert an external CD player into the audio canvas and see what level you get for a standard line level. If the level is acceptable to Cool Edit, I would consider that your mic and preamplification could be the problem. Some mic's don't have a very high output and when you putting them in front of instruments that are way below their top most dynamic ability, they might not work so well.. Acoustic guitar and flute are best recorded with a condensor mic for starters. I have recorded them with dynamics and it has to be a good dynamic with a decent pre to get a decent result.
>... will try that ...
: Assuming your budget is small, I would consider an M-Audio AudioBuddy preamp (cheap but well respected) and maybe a Behringer ECM8000 (well respected but cheap omni mic). The mic isn't the best thing for the job. I haven't even used one but I have heard many people raving about them comparetive to their price. Give them a go and see what results you get. If you want to move up the ladder a little, start looking at mic's like the RodeNt1 which will definately give a good result.
> I thought I'd researched mics well enough...
: I say again, without being there it's hard to be sure. Try the line level instrument and see if you get a good level first. The rest is all your own choice...

I think this is something that only Audiogalaxy can sort out, since nobody here can do much about password/log-on problems.
