Roland PK-5 Setup Ideas

I'm a prog rock bassist, and have been playing live for about 20 years. On a whim, I picked up a Roland XP-30 Synth and a Roland PK-5 Synth Pedal. I know next to nothing about how to get these two things to work together. My primary objective is to be able to store short phrases in the XP-30, then trigger them with the PK-5, as well as to lay some synth textures behind the rest of the band's sound. Think of it as a Geddy Lee complex with some generic prog rock psychoses thrown in. Any MIDI gurus out there got any ideas how to best utilize these two tools? Is there software that could be used on a laptop to more easily control the program selection for the synth? Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

Re: Roland PK-5 Setup Ideas

Hi Joel

Were you able to get any information regarding this request for info? I'm a guitarist looking to do the same or similar with a pk-5 for backup rythm. I was considering running the pk-5 to trigger touch sensitive tones to a tone generator such as a yamaha Qy10-20

Looking for the Artist and Title to a song

I am looking for the title and/or the Artist to a song that I want to download. I think maybe it is a 70's or 80's song. It is a love song. I can only remember part of the last verse. It goes something like " I would subtract one year of my life just to spend one more night with you". and something about "falling to my knees".It kind of reminds me of that song "the way you look tonight". If anyone can help me I would appreciate it. Thank you.

The group is called Blue Magic
lyrics below:
Sideshow
Blue Magic

[Bobby Eli and Vinny Barrett]

Hurry, hurry, step right up
See the sideshow in town for only fifty cents

Step right up, hurry, hurry before the show begins, my friends
Stand in line, get your tickets, I hope you will attend
It'll only cost you fifty cents to see
What life has done to those like you and me

See the man with the broken heart
You'll see that he is sad, he hurts so bad
(So bad, so bad)
See the girl who has lost the only love she ever had
There's got to be no sadder show to see
No doubt about it, satisfaction's guaranteed

So let the sideshow begin
Hurry, hurry, step right on in
Can't afford to pass it by
Guaranteed to make you cry

Let the sideshow begin (Hurry, hurry)
Hurry, hurry, step right on in
Can't afford to pass it by
Guaranteed to make you cry

See the man who's been cryin' for a million years
So many tears (So manytears)
See the girl who's collected broken hearts for souvenirs
It's more exciting than a one man band
The saddest little show in all the land

So let the sideshow begin (Hurry, hurry)
Hurry, hurry, step right on in
Can't afford to pass it by
Guaranteed to make you cry

Let the sideshow begin
Hurry, hurry, step right on in
Can't afford to pass it by
Guaranteed to make you cry

So let the sideshow begin (Hurry, hurry)
Hurry, hurry, step right on in
Can't afford to pass it by
Guaranteed to make you cry

Let the sideshow begin (Step right on in)
Hurry, hurry, step right on in
Can't afford to pass it by
Guaranteed to make you cry (Hurry, hurry)

Let the sideshow begin (Step right on in)

Re: Looking for the Artist and Title to a song

Does anyone know the original artist of "Black Velvet"

Re: Looking for the Artist and Title to a song

I am looking for the Male artist and name of a song that came out in the early 80's. It might be in the categories of Pop, Rock, Dance (fast song). It has a mixture of percussion and keyboard. And goes something like: "Tonight I feel, like I wanna DO SOMETHING. Can't sit still.....do something!...Looking for a freak just like me who wants to be turned on." Followed by what sounds like techno-keyboard.?! I thought it was called "Do Something", but I haven't been able to find it.

Re: Looking for the Artist and Title to a song

Part of the song is:
"Everyday we pray for you, i know you're in heaven smileing down."

Re: Looking for the Artist and Title to a song

: Part of the song is:
: "We must be, yeah, we must be in love"

Re: Looking for the Artist and Title to a song

"At This Moment" done by Billy Vera and The Beaters.

Mixing into a Mac

I hope someone can help me. All I want to do is mix my vinyl with an input into my Mac, with the ability to re-mix (loop & sample) on the fly, and pause and resume seamlesly. Forgive me I'm been spining for 20 years but I'm just now getting into the digital realm.

Thanks for any advice you can give/

Re: Mixing into a Mac

I am using whatever soundcard came with the Mac G4.

Thanks for your advice I'll try the Soundforge and Live. I hope they work, I'm about tired of cassette decks. LOL

Re: Mixing into a Mac

Might be worth having a look at Abletons 'Live'..

Other than that, I am not convinced I know exactly you are looking for.

Forget the Fruity Loops and Soundforge recommendations. They are Windows applications only.

Music Cataloging Software

I'm looking for cataloging software that will let me describe (and also search for)information associated with particular tracks in a music collection that is mostly in CD format. My focus is traditional Celtic music. By definition there is an established corpus of material that is rendered over and over again. That corpus is very large. However, many tunes are rarely heard in a given generation and surely some not at all.

I frequently wish to find in my collection all the recordings that contain a particular tune, or a particular song. I might then want to find, among those recordings, the few that feature banjo as the lead instrument. Or I could wish to find, in those recordings that feature a specific song, just those that feature a solo singer or, another time, a choral group; at the same time I might want to separate the song tracks into English and Gaelic renditions. Or I just might want to identify in the collection (which includes compilations) all the tracks on which a particular musician played.

You get the idea, I'm sure. I want to be able to compare and contrast various renditions of a tune or a song, or study instrumentation and instrumentalists among those renditions, etc.

In sum I want to go beyond the usual kind of descriptive cataloging of CDs: CD Title, Performer, Label, Track listing. I want to know which individual performers can be found on each track and what instruments each one plays there. And I want to include and search, in my database any sleeve notes that might exist for both the album and for each track. Finally, I want to be able to add (and search) my comments or analysis of each track. The concepts are easy to grasp but the software has seemed out of reach.

During the years 1997-1999 I made an effort to assess the suitability of quite a few of the available music cataloging programs. None met my need for the level of detail indicated above. I am hopeful that by now there is at least one PC program out there with the wanted capabilities.

If anyone knows of somthing suitable please let me know.

The concept is easy to grasp but finding software that supports

Re: Music Cataloging Software

Joe:

I have a similar problem to yours and wonder if you have found a software program that satisfies your needs and might also satisfy my needs.

A friend and I have a collection of about 70 1/4-inch reel-to-reel tapes of original folk music, blues, jazz, and interviews we recorded on trips through the south and to several cities in 1958-1962. We are looking for a software program that will enable us to catalog the collection including format (1/4-inch full track, 1/2 track or quarter track), tape speed, tape stock, original or dub, our number for the tapes and for CD copies will make of the original tapes, location recorded, recorded by whom, date recorded, artist(s), song titles and authors, instrumentation, and a note field.

I know this can be done with database programs like Access or Filemaker, but we're hoping to find a good ready-made east-to-use program that will allow some flexibility and enable us to print nice looking catalogs by different fields.

If you have any suggestions, please contact me:

Re: just bought an mpc 2000 and i dont know how or where to star

Congratulations and welcome to the MPC family. I have a MPC3000 and have had it for about 6 years now. They are monsters. In no time, you'll be killing it. There are a few resources for you to check out. Visit www.mpc-tutor.com and www.mpc2000.com and http://www.mpc3k.com for some serious info and forums.

You'll also need some samples if you haven't already begun to dig in the crates. There are lots of resources available for that. I've got 100 MB MPC drum programs available on zip disk. Contact me at homershines@yahoo.com for a demo sample in WAV format and for some general info.

peace.

So you just bought a sampler and you don't know what to do with it? Why did you buy it? What type of music are you working with? Do you have any musical experience?

Any ways, maybe this link will help:

Remove advert

Hi !
I downloaded a guitar tuner which had Precision Time and GAIN advert with it. I didn't like the Tuner,so I uninstalled them all. Now the GAIN advert is still poping up in my window everyday, I hate it so much but how do I get rid of it?
Thanks,
Dean.

Re: Remove advert

I recommend Adaware which you can download for free at
http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/

Re: Remove advert

a lot of freeware s/w installs ADs with it....

Download Lavasofts - "Adaware"
or "Spybot Search & Destroy"

Both of these will remove unwanted Adware and Spyware.
You might be very surprised at many of these trolls it finds on your computer.

Re: Remove advert

The best thing to do is to contact the software author of the program to get some feedback on how to remove it.
