freeware to capture streaming radio music on the hard drive

I don't think we have any Freeware to do this, and I
didn't see that in the article, but we do have a lot of
Shareware for this job.

If you're on Windows then one of the best is <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/TotalRecorder/">Total Recorder</a>.

If you're using Mac OS X then <A href="http://membersonly.hitsquad.com/membersonly/programs/mac/StreamRipperX/">RadioLover</a> is the good,
or <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/iNetArchiver/">iNet Stream Archiver</a>.

There's also <a href="http://membersonly.hitsquad.com/membersonly/programs/mac/iNetStreamClassic/">iNet Stream Archiver Classic</a> for older Macs.

You'll find even more software for all platforms int the
<a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/STREAMING_AUDIO_MEDIA/">Streaming Audio</a> area of this site.

I need help

I want to change my audio books that are on cassetts to disks. Would you explain proceedure and what I need to have. I am fairly new at using a computer so if you can help me please keep in mind I am a novice..
Thank You

Re: I need help

Karen;
If you have lots of cassettes and don't feel like you wanna do it, or you don't wanna invest in the equipment, I can provide that service for you. Otherwise, You need to get some type of sound card if you use a PC. If you use a Mac, I suggest that you get a Mbox/Pro Tools setup. Plug your cassette deck into the inputs of the soundcard or Mbox and set the software to record. Then, edit the pieces into the appropriate length to match you guides or however you want them to end. You can then burn them to CD or what have you.

good luck.

Looking for mp3 decoding help

I'm lookig for some way to understand how an mp3 is decoded or how to decode it, the hole 3-layer thing but in software.

A help file of some sort would be nice, source code for C++ or C Builder would also do.

problem with cubasis vst

Had a problem with cubasis vst. When I import a midi file, the program imports it but then when I put it playing the sound doesn't come out. And it's not a computer's problem because I have some other midi programs (like xgworks) and it's working perfectly. I already uninstalled the program and installed it again and it didn't resolve the problem. I would be pleased if someone could help me. Thanks

Re: problem with cubasis vst

if you import a MIDI file into Cubase (and I assume it's the same in Cubasis) you will need to associate a VST instrument with the midi track... (ie something to play the notes)

Steinberg Cubasis 3.7R2 with 2 sound cards Aztech 338 / Sound Bl

Anyone know how to record from 2 sound cards at the same time?

The custom asio setup allows you to configure for 4 inputs. But I can seem to get Cubasis to recognise anything other than the default sound card recorder in the control panel.

Running on Windows ME.

It's been quite a while since I looked at Cubasis but
this might work...

Go to the Audio menu and click on System. When the
Audio System Setup dialog box pops up choose the ASIO
multimedia driver as the main device, it should be the
default option anyway.

Then go to the ASIO Control Panel and open the ASIO
Multimedia Setup screen and choose from the list of
cards there - you will be able to select a setup for
each one of your cards.

If your cards aren't in the pre-set list then you can
click on the Advanced Options button in the Control
Panel to create a set up for each of your cards.

Post back and let us know if this works.

Re: Steinberg Cubasis 3.7R2 with 2 sound cards Aztech 338 / Soun

Thanks for you reply. Here goes:

1. Go To Audio|Devices
Select ASIO Multimedia Driver

2. Go To ASIO Control Panel
My Screen There now Lists:

Presets: Custom
Output Ports

Name Status Sync Ref
SB Live! Wave Out [1000] Active No
PCI 338-A3D Playback Inactive No

Input Ports Status Sync Ref
SB Live! Wave Out [1000] Active Yes
PCI 338-A3D Playback Active No

This Looks Like What I Want :)

3. Advanced Options...
I added the 338 To Playback As well

Card Options
Full Duplaex
Start Input First
Open All Devices Before Start
Use 16-Bit Only
Are All Ticked

This restarted the Audio System Test

Showing Input and output as 4 channels

Still Looking Good.

4. In the Audio System Setup it now shows No of Channels = 8

5. Opened the VST Channel Mixer
the channels are labeled from 1 to 4 as:
IN 1 L
IN 1 R
IN 1 L
IN 1 R

Holding Down Ctrl and clicking on this button on channel 3 I would have expected to see IN 2. All I can see is IN 1 L or IN 1 R.

This is still my initial problem.

Now I can choose between either soundcard for output.
------------------------------------------------------
However If I open Up Audio|Inputs A VST Inputs dialog is displayed. Only The SB Live is active. By Making the 338 Active, when I click on the IN 1 L. I now have the option of
IN 1 L
IN 1 R
IN 2 L
IN 2 R

Ok now there is only the stupid problem left that, when I hit record, only the track that is highlighted in the mixer (Channel Number at bottom of strip is black on white while the rest are black on grey). Ctrl Clicking or shift clicking on subsequent tracks has does not select mutiple tracks. I can only have one track selected. In the inspector I have enabled all 4 but I can only get one at a time to record.

So Close......

Studder effect

Can anyone explain how the studder effect can be done on vocals? Is it Recycle, a sampler or a plugin? The example is here...

Re: Studder effect

It's simply a case of re-starting the loop or sample
before it's finished. You can do this using any loop
sequencing program like Recycle or Fruity Loops.

If you're doing it using midi sequencing and a sampler
then you have to make sure the sample is monophonic
(using only one voice) so that when it restarts the
first one is not still playing.

Korg PXR4 recording help

k, I have looked everywhere, and Korg has made it very simple to upload music from your recording device to your computer via USB ports. Now what I want to know is if there is a way to download the music from your computer on to one of the tracks on the PXR4. If you can do one you should be able to do the other. I want to have the tracks on my computer transfered to the recorder sometimes to make additions or changes, so is there anyone that could help me?
Thanx

You can back up your files to your computer, however
the PXR4 uses a proprietary format so you can't edit
them on your computer.

You could try using the Bounce feature to mixdown into
MP2 format but only mixdown one track at time, then if
your soundcard can play files sampled at 32kHz you'll
be able to use them.

The best solution however, would be simply to record
each track to a separate wave file on your PC going
through your soundcard to record them. Once you have
the wave files you can edit them on the PC.

Whatever you do you aren't going to be able to avoid
either re-sampling or lossy compression.

Jason.

Re: Korg PXR4 recording help

I can do this by draaging the song onto an external card reader. then put the card in the pxr4 and your song will be there.

Re: Korg PXR4 recording help

"The best solution however, would be simply to record

I would love to know how to do this.

Re: Korg PXR4 recording help

Thank you for the help Jason.
I still however cant seem to get a track that is saved on my computer back onto the PXR4 recorder.
There has got to be some way to take a track off the computer and place it back into the PXR4 for further editing. If there is any other usefull tips out there it would be greatly appreciated
Thanks again
E.J.

Re: Korg PXR4 recording help

It is possible. I have recorded guitar, edited it in
Sound Forge and put it back to PXR. I have not done that for a while cause it´s not necessary for me anymore. I do my recordings save them to computer, perhaps edit them, convert to mp3 and burn to cd or copy to my nomad. But try the following: Do your track. Save the track to computer, but dont use the track converter tool just copy the file from pxr4. Edit it in whatever program you use. Now when you save it, the frequency MUST be 32kHZ. And if you recorded with High-setting in Pxr the bitrate is 192kb/sec. For Standard it is 128kb/sec. And you know the audio format is MPEG-1 layer 2. Then replace the file. It should work. Pay attention that not all audio software support 32kHZ.

Re: Korg PXR4 recording help ... oops, correct answer

I just realized I answered the opposite of what you
want to do.

Because of the proprietory format you will simply have
to play the tracks on your PC by plugging the line out
on your soundcard into the ¼ inch or stereo miniplug
input on your PXR4.

You will get some loss due to the lossy compression on
the PXR4.

Why don't you simply edit the tracks on your PC instead?

It depends on the type of MiniDisc you have (some have
digital output), however since MD uses lossy compression
you'll probably get the best result simply plugging the
line-out of your MD into the line-in on your PC, and
then use your favorite audio editor to record.

will allow you to record them onto a CD without having
to convert your mp3s to wav files.
