GridLok for Tempo Synced Automation LFO's for Logic

Here is a copy of the official press release for a tool I developed alongside Keyfax New Media called GridLok. Its a real quick and creative way to create tempo synced automation within Logic.

"Of all the many wonderful control features in Logic, having rhythmic templates you can quickly turn into Logic Track Automation data isn’t one of them. Or rather it wasn’t until now.

GridLok, from electronic music producer Majool in conjunction with MIDI sample specialists Keyfax NewMedia, is a series of 260 "Tempo-synced Automation LFOs” that load into Logic in a single file, enabling you to create sample-accurate automation data from an almost limitless series of rhythmic MIDI CC templates.

From whole notes to 192nd notes, dotted and triplet values, in six different waveform shapes (Square, Saw, Triangle and 3 Curves) all with ON and OFF variations (127-0 or 0-127), each automation node is "Smart-Doubled" (two ticks, one tick apart) so that you can easily copy, paste and combine files.

By copying and pasting different GridLok templates together and taking advantage of Logic's powerful event transform functions you can easily create your own interesting groove templates to suit your automation needs making this not only a huge time saver but also a highly creative tool.

To get the creative juices flowing GridLok comes loaded with 20 groove templates to tweak even the most simple of sounds into a complex and rhythmically dynamic tone color.

6) Building GridLok into your Autoload (default startup song) and optimzing it for quick access.

A) LAP Version 4 and 5:
(see below for V6)

If you don't feel like rebuilding your personal AUTOLOAD around the included GridLok file you can easily build GridLok into your current AUTOLOAD. Here is how.

1) Open your Autoload and create 15 NO OUTPUT tracks as the first 15 tracks in your arrange.
2) Option-Double Click on NO OUTPUT and rename GRIDLOK (for ease of use) and/or rename the individual tracks according to the corresponding note value (i.e. 1/4, 1/8th...) using shift double-clicking on NO OUTPUT.
3) Open GridLok and highlight all the patterns. Drag across or copy/paste (command-v/command-c) the patterns to the first 15 GridLok tracks. If you get 'not enough memory' error messages you may have to select half and paste half by half.
4) Highlight all the files and goto FUNCTIONS-PACK FOLDER. Rename the closed folder object GridLok by selecting the Text Tool and clicking on the closed folder object and typing.
5) Now, choose any available un-needed Screenset (use numeric keypad to scroll through Screensets) and goto WINDOWS-SCREENSETS-UNLOCK. Close any existing windows.
6) Goto WINDOWS-OPEN ARRANGE.
7) Deselect the purple link button in the left hand corner of the arrange window.
8) If you're looking at an arrange window that contains the open GridLok folder (that is, you can see all 260 GridLok Objects ) the folder is incidently open and needs to be closed by double-clicking a blank space on the arrange.
9) Now that you're looking at an empty arrange window, except for the closed GridLok folder object, repeat the above process in step 6 and create a second arrange (yes, Logic allows you to open multiple unique versions of the same window!!!).
10) Again, make sure that the link button is deselected in the upper-left hand corner on the newest arrange as well.
11) Now, go to WINDOWS-TILE WINDOWS HORIZONTALLY to neatly view both arranges. The top (depending on your personal preference of course) will be your actual song's arrangement window, while the bottom will serve as your template GridLok tool palette.
12) So, on the bottom arrange window, you'll want to double click on the GridLok folder object if its not already open, so that you see all 260 objects in the bottom arrange. Adjust the zoom to fit nicely all the objects.
13) Now, go to WINOWS-SCREENSET-LOCK and GridLok is officially built into your AUTOLOAD for instant access and use! When you're working on a tune and want a dotted 64th note sawtooth shape automation pattern all you need to do is select the assigned GridLok windowset, select the desired object and option drag to the desired destination. Once the object is in place follow the directions in 1) The Real Benefit... at the beginning of this tutorial to convert to track automation.

B) Version 6:

i want to decode an mp3 file using c/c++(not vc++) to build a mp3 player.i want avoid using any of the windows API. The entire header for decoding should be our own.

Roland Sound Canvas and XP

mouth noises

Hi,
I recorded a narration cd.
During the recording I picked up mouth noises( pops and clicks from the mouth)
I did use a pop filter.
I used a Samsom C1 condenser mike, recording to a Vs 880 EX
What causes the mouth noises and what can I do to stop it?
There were 3 different people involved, and all 3 produced these noises.

Cubase VST 5.0 problem HELP!!!!

Hello everyone!
Recently, I managed to record drums from my mixer to Cubase. It worked damn well.
The next day, I went to this same recording, and no sound was coming out. On the mixer panel, it wasn't even reading anthing at all,as if the sound had dissapeard. Everthing is connected the same way, so if anyone knows how I can fix this, please tell me!
I'm using an Steinberg Audio project card 2.0 if that helps.

Ever been lost? Using SoundBlaster Live Platinum 5.1, andI have latency, in and out, the System do not seem to recognize my Korg T3 , so I'm lookokng for a solution , as an Alternetive Driver with 0ms. latency feturing my Hardware Synth Voices, sick of "Virtual" imitations.
So please advise, if you had good experience withthr APS Driver.

Hello is anyone out there! I've watched many of the recent video's on VH-1 , where do they get these people from? Most of them need a job! I have done alot of work on my own music. I believe I have something that everyone would enjoy to hear. Songs like "Walking along the shore" , " I'm stuck here" , "Help" "Floatin on my ride" , "Rememberin when" and many many more! I have done my homework. I do not need a how to do it dance but only a chance to show my stuff. I am a ONE man Band with only six strings and alot to say! Attitude all the way baby! I have been trying evry possible recorder that records from my turntables to a wave file. Everytime i do this i always get a really bad recording sound. It sounds like my speakers are blown. My speakers are not blown. Please somebody help. This is soooo aggravating. Thanks

(I hope this doesn't get on too many nerves.)

The last time I had anything to do with electronic music was back in '93 when I had a Kawai synth and Kawai sequencer (hardware) and a Roland Sound Canvas (also hardware) and a four-track tape deck (scared yet!!). Then I sold em all to buy my wife an engagement ring, which in no way do I regret by the way.

Now, ten years later, I have the itch to create again and want to do it all from start to finish on my PC.

I've been reading a bit about VST and the like but haven't quite got the handle, so I thought I would post to the board to get some help.

What I want to do is create my own library of sounds from scratch or from pre-existing patches using a software synth and then use this library of sounds in compositions created on a software sequencer which I then want to record to my harddrive as .Wav or .mp3 files to burn to CD or cast to the internet ether to see what returns. A bit of sampling would be fun too.

The question I have for anyone who is inclined to answer is this:
Where do I start? What products should I start looking at? Are there any good online tutorials or publications that will get me started?

I've been surfin' a bit but have only ended up with a headache. So I am looking for some advice on where to direct my efforts.

Any help would be appreciated?

Simply install the US-122 via the CD that came with it. Run Cool Edit Pro and select devices and you should see the US-122 listed. Move US-122 to the top of both record and play devices and you should be good to go.

I've encountered a playback problem with the US-122. Every time I play a recording thru the US-122, I get a random clicking, poping sound during playback.

yo i was going crazy i had that same problem and then i called up tascam and it was fixed right away if you get this message IM me at Perler@outeraspects.com and ill send you a program that gets rid of this, but this is only for windows XP.

i am curious why that even though my keyboard or guitar are plugged into the computer through the mic port, and i can even hear them through the pc speakers, when i press record on the audiostudio, it picks up nothing even though i do have is set on real audio format, please help me anybody!! thank you
