Re: PLEASE!! A3000/hardisk problem...

You are proberly using a SCSI Harddisk. If so
make sure your HARDDISK is terminated and the device at the other end of the SCSI bus (proberly your computer or the last internal SCSI disk in your computer). Anything in between such as your a3000 sampler must not be terminated (it is by default)

Look in your a3000 manual or on the internet for more information on SCSI termination.

how to find what onboard sound i have?

i have this generic machine with yamaha onboard audio on it.. can't find a driver for that stupid thing.. don't know what exactly is the model number...

Re: how to find what onboard sound i have?

If it's on the motherboard, you should find it in the BIOS settings (press DEL when the machine powers up). If it's a card, then the type should be listed on Control Panel.

True, but the TX-9039 is perhaps the better choice for slimfunk and jiveslap styles used in some of the latest Brit House stuff coming out. If you jinx it, it'll only come on stronger. Fuck Karen Annarino!

Hey Dave: The SoundBlaster Live Value card includes the correct drivers to work with Windows ME so that's probably not the problem. Something is going wrong during installation. First of all make sure nothing is running in the background during install. Turn off all screen savers and if you know how to use the System Configuration Utility use selective startup to turn things off there.

Macarthur Park

could someone pls tell who did the original version of Macarthur Park and in what year it was first performed
thanks

Re: Macarthur Park

: could someone pls tell who did the original version of Macarthur Park and in what year it was first performed

It was the actor Richard Harris in his short lived singing debut. I don't know what year but I'm thinking late sixties because that was such a Beatles wannabe song. " Some one left the cake out in the rain. I don't think that I can take it cause it took so long to make it and I'll never have that recipe again" What fine lyrics.

Re: Macarthur Park

: Richard Harris may be the one who made the song famous, but he was not the first. It was originally written and performed by Jimmy Webb. Not sure of the year. Check out http"//www.jimmywebb.com for more information.

mp3 track marks

i have my decks linked to my computer for recording. The problem i have is that when recoring a long mix and burning it to a cd there are no track marks just one large track. I was wondering if there is any software that allows you to add track marks to an mp3 file before burning to a cd. Much like on a minidisc. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: mp3 track marks

I don't know a program that can do this with MP3 but you probably first transfer your songs as WAV files so in this case you need of WaveKnife. Go to: http://www.spacetaxi.de/sf/waveknife.html
This little utility is free for download.

Keyboard to computer

I am the computer wiz. Our church musician is the music wiz. She wants to hook up her MIDI keyboard to the new Pentium 4 computer we have at the church and use Finale 2000 to score some special music arrangements. We need a little basic help mating these two realms. Do we just plug in the MIDI cable to the sound board in the computer, or do we have to have a MIDI adapter? If we must HAVE a MIDI adapter, can you suggest a relatively inexpensive one for beginners?

Re: Keyboard to computer

Hi, you need a midi adapter. Emagic has good un's. So does motu, steinberg and midiman. Generally if you were using a motu sequencer you'd want motu hardware, if you wanted an emagic sequencer emagic hardware. With finale Im not sure, whatever's clever, but emagics stuff has a good reputation, thats what I'd get, they have their "amt" interfaces.
As for setting it up, they can either work with a serial port or usb, one or the other so get the right type for your CPU.

How do I run 2 programs together?

I want to run 2 programs simultaneously, Sonic Foundry's Acid & Cakewalk's
Pro Audio 9.
Using drum samples in Acid, I need to hear them when I record my midi
sequence into Cakewalk.
In order for Acid to be the master, Cakewalk receives the midi clock
messages sent to it on my TBS Montego MPU-401 input port. I have done this
by connecting a midi cable from the midi out to the midi in of the sound
card. I then need to select another input port to receive midi data for the
sequence. This is done through my Opcode Studio 64x interface. With this
configuration I put Cakewalk into record and it waits for the incoming
signal. When I play Acid however, Cakewalk receives the signal but takes off
at a rate of knots far quicker than the speed dictated by Acid. Up until now
I've had to record the Cakewalk sequence seperately (just listening to the
metronome and not the Acid samples), then disable that particular input
port. With just the one input port now open (the TBS Montego MPU-401 ),
Cakewalk will slave quite happily to Acid. Suffice to say this is a
laborious, painful, 'wait-and-see do the two tracks sit well together' type
of procedure. Cakewalk doesn't seem to like having the 2 input ports
operating at the same time.

I've also tried letting Acid chase to an incoming MTC sent from Cakewalk,
but it just didn't want to know - stuttering and stumbling to a halt.

Help and advice would be greatly appreciated, as I have tried every setting
I can think of.

Yours sincerely,

Peter Beckett

Re: How do I run 2 programs together?

Peter,

Have you tried a software midi router like Hubi's Midi Loopback device? (available on this website). Once loaded it appears on the bar at the bottom of windows. It gives you the option to route midi signals/clock from one program to another. Using this you can sand your midi drum pattern from Cakewalk to friuty loops as if you were controlling it from and external midi source. Plugging a soundcard back into itself is never a good idea as it tends to get upset!

drums on computer

I am looking for a good drum machine for desktop
recordings. Preferably something with lots of
drum tunes, and the ability to design drums for
a complete song and export in WAV format.
Thanks

I don't know if you found anything yet, but I've found a couple things on Download.com that have been awesome in creating my own drum licks. There's no more b.s. of trying to find the right loop. Give it a whirl, just type in "drums" in the search engine on download.com. l8r g8r.

Re: drums on computer

Hey man,
fruity loops is a good choice, and it can use different plug ins like sonic syndicates orion, or this new one Ive seen, the dr 008 modular drum sampler.

As well theres waldorfs attack drum synth(as opposed to sampler) and NI's battery.

how do I put vocals over my acid songs?

Can any one help me with this? I can mix down the tracks to wav or mp3 files but I cant figure out how to record my voice over them.

** You can record the vocals seperatly then merge them in Cool Edit or Sound Forge. **

Re: how do I put vocals over my acid songs?

It's well worth using ACID with an audio editor or multi-track recorder. Cool Edit 2000 could be used to create vox track and then you can drop it into ACID. Or you could use n-track if you wanted to do live multi-track recording by yourself or other musicians.

re: re: formac

I found formac. Thanx so much. I still have a problem though. I read that the cd rw drives, which are mostly fire wire, cannot be heard on regular cd players. Here's the deal. I have been offered a distribution & marketing deal by Time Warner. My label is anffiliated company called Caroline Records. They're a funding a six month tour of the states and want me to make the preliminary recording in return. I need to set up recording capabilities, mix down and burn. The cd I burn must be professional quality and audible on a regular cd player. Once I do this the company will take over. I'm willing to forget i tunes if I can obtain what I need. What do I do? Where do I go. I need an in home recording studio. HELP!!!!!!!???????!!!!!!!

Re: re: re: formac

Older CD players can't play CD-R or CD-RW discs because of the different way they are made. There's no way you can get around this problem.

Connection

I have a software program ( cakewalk), I want to transfer cassettes to Cds ( i have CDRW) To do this
I know I need to hook up my cassette player to the sound card. I also have analog to digital connecters.
My problem is that the connection in the back of the stereo has little square connecters, Can I connect through the headphone connecter? And will that require a digital to digital cable?
Thanks for help.
Belinda

Re: Connection

Hello, Ide suggest going from the analog out of the cassete deck to the analog in, as digital ins are only for digital outputs. Make sense? Theres nithing digital about a cassette therefore for your computer to recoprd it it fits needs to be converted to digital. Just figure out what the outputs shape is go to radio shack and find the right shaped adapter to hook it all up.
