Nero Burning

I have had Nero installed for some months and now I found it regularly dumps the CD with the warning 'Unable to read adudio data' Wav files are normally loaded using cool edit and is this a one off with a badly formed wav file or is my computer deficient (350mhz processor with 256k of ram and 30 gb hard drive)

Optimizing setup Delta44 Behringer and effects processor

Hi,
With a Delta44 (4 ins 4 outs), a Behringer 8 Chanel with two sends, and a generic effects processor,
what is the best way to set everything up so that if I want I can have some reverb on incoming vocals? I thought I'd just wire up the
unit to the Behringer's send returns much like a guitar effects loop, but I'm not getting a very clean or strong result when I do that.
Thanks for any pointers on setting up such,
Please email me when you reply,
Brad Trainham

What computer setup...

It sounds like you have it set up okay although the weak signal maybe because you are ignoring correct signal path level. It's important to get a good strong input signal to the desk and then try and maintain the level through any internal and external signal. A lot of people will get a reasonable level into a mixing desk, lose a lot of level on an Aux effect send and then try and make it up on the effect return and consequently overdo it and then try and bring it back down in the output. This is recipe for disaster and a muddy or cheap sounding mix. PFL or SOLO is there for a reason and should be used at every available stage to compare the level with the original input. Boost and cut as necessary but maintain that level to the output and you will get the cleanest signal your desk can provide.

Also observe balanced leads and use them where possible. A decent interconnect to and from an external device can make all the difference over 'any old lead'. Make sure that the external fx processor is not boosted or cut as some offer a copatibility switch (DB cut or boost) to match to the type of equipment you are using, (Semi pro/Pro or broadcast level which are all different).

If you Fx send with just one Fx unit then use Aux one. Return in stereo to a proper Aux return (observing the levels..'0) IF the aux return lets you send out over another Aux... In this way you can monitor the aux return using the sent out again aux as the headphone mix. In this way, the actual output from the desk to the computer doesn't carry the reverb so you can still record the vocals dry (which is often important...). If the Aux doesn't let you send out over another Aux then you would have to return to a stereo input although this offers a big problem. If you then send out again over Aux one, you have created a potentially damaging feedback loop. You have been warned. For what it's worth, I do this on my desk although I tend to removed the actual Aux knobs so I never get to turn them. This then gives the best 'routing' options although be careful of that feedback loop..!

Hope this helps

WAVE TO MP3 CONVERTER

Hello
Whilst I am trying to take wave recordings of song into a CD The HP rewriter is saying, not a valid file format.
Tried downloading MP3 wave converter but no sucess, what should I try & where can it be found.
Regards
Simon

Re: WAVE TO MP3 CONVERTER

If the files are in WAV format, then they should go onto the CD with no problem. If you want a converter, try something like CDex, which converts between MP3 and WAV. You can also have a look in the software section for loads of others.

score out of cd

How can I get the score out of a cd. The cd was a recording from a logic midi work.

Re: score out of cd

Several notation programs will accept MIDI input to create scores. THere are also programs that claim they can convert WAV to MIDI, so you could rip the CD audio to WAV and try convert it.

Re: score out of cd

Unless the music is in a format from which each individual note can be taken (i.e. a multi-track MID file), there is no way to do this.

MIDI out to el-piano?

My Roland piano is coupled to my PC through a MIDI in/out cable. Why is it then not possible to have the MIDI output (from PC/piano) through the piano, only through the lousy PC-speakers? Or is it???

?!?!?!

I'm not sure of what you are getting at as your message doesn't pinpoint the question clearly.

Sounds like you want to hear the Keyboard sound instead of the PC speakers although I don't understand how you have it wired up OR what, if any, midi/audio sequencing software you have.

Whatever the midi audio connection, the midi that you have played into the sequencer should play out of the computer's midi output and in turn play your keyboard. If the audio output of the keyboard was then plugged into an amplifier to some speakers, you would hear it normally. If you want to record the audio of the keyboard to the computer, then you would have to turn down the PC speakers and plug an audio output from your computer to an amplifier.

Am I missing something?

Help w/ Acid Wave.... Remove hissing/distortion (any plug-ins?)

I am using Acid Wave 2.4 (Polyhedric). I would like to find a way to remove the hissing and sound distortion -(that comes with louder sounds). I am recording speeches. I have tried to move the mic. further away and also to reduce the mic. volume level, but there is still a significant amount of distortion/hissing. I am recording directly to the computer and do not have audio equipment resources at my disposal here in West Africa.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I have also used the "Reduce Noise" feature, but it leaves a hollow sound with the voices.

I have also used the "Equilizer" feature. However, it takes about 2.5 hours to do a 30 minute audio file. It does not apply the settings during the recording session. It has to be activated afterwards.

Is there another way? Maybe a plug-in?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

converting WAV to FLP

Id just like to know how to take a wav youve recorded and then turn it into flp file to use in fruity loops 3. danke

Re: converting WAV to FLP

NOT POSSIBLE!

: Id just like to know how to take a wav youve recorded and then turn it into flp file to use in fruity loops 3. danke

Re: converting WAV to FLP

You can import WAVs into Fruity and then save it as FLP. I've never tried it with a WAV longer than a few seconds. I'm not sure what would happen if i tried to load up a full song.

Just remember tho that some of the songs you can download in FLP need the appropriate WAVs to run the song.

: Id just like to know how to take a wav youve recorded and then turn it into flp file to use in fruity loops 3. danke

Re: converting WAV to FLP

I have successfully used wavs of up to around four minutes, like lead vox tracks, with no problems. Breaking the wav into smaller parts would seems sensible though, even if only to reduce the loading time and your flexibility.

If, for example, you use a four minute wav of a complete vox part, you would normally place it in a pattern at the beginning of the playlist.

Starting the song from Bar 1 is fine, but if you start at Bar 5 the wav will not play (as it is triggered in Bar 1). Hence, breaking into smaller wavs and inserting those at appropriate points in the playlist seems sensible!

One thing to be aware of is that the volume the wavs are played in Fruity seems to be quite low, so make sure the recorded wav is as loud as possible first.

Finally, you can save the file as a zip file within Fruity which will bundle the flp and the associated wavs (as well as presets, playlist etc etc). The complete file will still be big as it contains the sum of all the wavs. FLPs on the other hand are pretty small files.

Hope this helps. It's well worth checking the Fruityloops forums (if you're a registered user). www.fruityloops.com

converting ram to wav

im sry i kno that this was posted by someone else before but i couldnt find the answers to the question if it was posted up. anyway my question of course was is there a way to convert ram songs such as real playr into wav or mp3 formats? please aside from posting it could you e-mail the answer to me? not jsut the site but if anyone else knows i'd really appreciate it. thank you.

Re: converting ram to wav

As far as I know, there are no convertors for .ram files, mostly because of the policy of the people from the Realnetworks. But, find and download VAC (Virtual Audio Cable). This software enables you to digitally output audio sound from the players (e.g. Soft synth, Real Player,...) on one end of the VAC and record it on the another end of it in any recording software (Sound Forge, ...). In Control panel/Multimedia/Audio, choose VAC as playback preferred device. In your recording software choose VAC to be the recording port. Play back Real player and start recording in your recording software. Be aware that parameters for the audio in recording software must be identical to the parameters of the .ram file (sampling rate, number of channels, and number of bits). It is a kind of "try and guess".

You can monitor the sound while recording, using a simple utility that comes with VAC.

Using the Roland Xp80 with Cubase

Does anyone have any info for setting up a Roland Xp80 synth with CUBASE VST thanks Jason

Shouldn't be too hard...

Midi out of the XP to midi in on the 'puter. Midi out of the 'puter to midi in on the XP.

Cubase wont know what type of synth is on the end of the midi chain unless you load a synth map of the XP which shouldn't be hard to find.

A quick note. I have only once used a Midi map for a synth or drum machine and find it just as easy to work purely with Midi ins/outs. This is personal preference although to start off, it's not a bad way to get used to the two devices working together. If you have done what I suggested in the first paragraph then the system will work. Just select corresponding midi channels to the sounds you are recording as tracks. You can even audio input the XP through cubase and then keep recording midi channel/edit then audio and so on. Learn the XP in multimbral mode and then just change midi channels for each sound to correspond with the tracks midi channels on Cubase...

mp3

is there any software that lets you turn mp3 files into wav files so i can burn cd's from mp3's

Re: mp3

Did it ever cross your mind to have a look in the software section before posting this question? There are probably fifty or more programs that can do it.

Did it ever occur to you to answer a question without being rude? Some people just don't have the time or the patients to go through the software section to find exactly what they're looking for. Try CDex which you can find at
http://www.cdex.n3.net/

Re: mp3

If you can take the time out to post a message on this forum, then
you can easily take a minute or two to have a look around to see if
the answer is already here. The number of times the same question has
been asked is getting riduculous.

All I'm asking is that people spend a minute or two to search the existing
answers or look in other sections to see if they can solve the problem
before posting a question. That way, the people who really need help get
it.

Posting a message only takes a minute. There are literally thousands of titles in the software section. And I don't think anyone really cares if a question is posted several times. Other peoples questions will still be answered one way or the other. If you don't want to read a particular message, you can skip over it. Besides, how is someone who's new to the forum supposed to realize that there question has already been asked several times? Not everyone has the time to read through the hundreds of messages that are posted here. And if you do have the time to come here to try and help people with there problems, then the least you can do is try to be polite.
