Drum & Bass Patterns Program

Can anyone tell me which is the best program to get that has a variety of great drum and bass groves. My style of music is basically fusion jazz and rock. If you want to email me, that's O.K. Thanks, Peter.

Re: Drum & Bass Patterns Program

If you're after GREAT grooves and the right sounds, you might be better off buying a loop library or two. It'll save you a heap of time. Of course, you could write the grooves yourself in MIDI. But I don't know how you play.

I'd just get the discs. You can always grind up grooves in an audio editor later.

Use Fruity Loops to make your own simple rock beats.

Getting Loops would be the best idea though.

This message board is old!

This board is very outdated and dificult to use. There is obviously a great community here, and the board would benefit from an upgrade in my opinion, in order to make it more structured and easier for people to post/reply to posts and read posts they are interested in, instead of trawling through one big page.

Actually we have over 3,000 message boards devoted
to individual music software applications - this
message board is just meant for everything else
that doesn't apply to an individual program.

If you want to discuss a particular music application
then go to our <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/search/" target="_top">search engine</a> to find it.

I also hope that we will be able to upgrade this
discussion forum at some point, however that will
have to wait until there is some money to pay for
it - and that is in short supply at the moment.

Jason.

Keyboard problem...

Hi! I have a yamaha psr-4000 (back from -96) keyboard, wich stopped playing songs from the disks. Naturally i first came 2 a conclusion that the problem was in the disk drive, but the it could read the song titles recorded on the hd's. But instead of playing the selected song on the menu from the disk, it started playing the current rhythm selected from the acconpaniment, it totally ignored the playing of the song from the disk!!?? I took it to the yamaha dealer next 2 me, who had the service in there 2. But after a week later, the repairman called and said, that there was nothing he could do... he came 2 the same conclusion, that the problem was probably in the software, not in the disk drive, but couldn't fix or "reboot" the bios in it. Anyways i'm just curios...has anyone of u psr-series owners had the samer or similar problem?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sounds like...

... a lame technician. If it is a software problem then he should be able to burn a new chip. It therefore appears that he doesn't have the required access to the parts and spares...

The keyboard isn't that old and therefore should be repairable. I think it's british law that companies have to provide support for products for up to five years from the point that the product left production. I think you should contact the yamaha again and get them to do something about it....

question?

I WAS LOOKING FOR SOMETHING THAT I COULD BUY TO TURN MY COMPUTER INTO A GENERIC STUDIO, I HAVE A CD BURNER AND INSTRUMENTALS, I WOULD JUST LIKE TO ADD MY VOCALS UNTO THE INSTRUMENTALS, AND MAYBE MANIPULATE IT, SUCH AS ECHO AND EFFECTS SIMILAR TO THAT. NOT VIOLATING ANY COPYRIGHT LAWS, BUT JUST FOR PERSONAL WORK. ALSO I WAS LOOKING FOR A WAY TO TAKE SOMETHING FROM A CASSETTE TAPE AND LOAD IT INTO MY CD BURNER SO THAT I CAN PUT IT ONTO A CD. IS THERE ANY OF THIS SOFTWARE, OR HARDWARE AVAILABLE, AND IF SO THEN WHERE WOULD I BE ABLE TO FIND IT. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING AROUND, BUT AM NOT THAT FAMILIAR WITH THE COMPUTER WORLD OR THEIR FUNCTIONS. I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE THE YOUR ASSISTANCE BY PASSING ON SOME OF THIS KNOWLEDGE. I WOULD BE EXTREMELY GREATFUL. THANK YOU. PLEASE RESPOND,

If you want to burn RealAudio files to CD, you'll have to convert them to WAV files first. As far as I know, there's no software that will burn RealAudio files directly to CD. Well except maybe for RealJukebox and I'm not sure about that. First download this plug-in that lets you play RealAudio files in Winamp.
http://innoreal.kiwidream.com/
You need to have RealPlayer installed to use it.
Install it, run Winamp, go into preferences and under File types associate all the Real Media extensions with Winamp so that they'll be opened in Winamp by default. Then go to output plug-ins and select Nullsoft Disc Writer as the default plug-in and set the configuration options. Now every time you open RealAudio files in Winamp, they'll be converted to WAV. Don't forget to set the output plug-in back to Nullsoft waveOut when you want to play music.

First off... Turn off the caplock...!

Reading messages with uppercase is very hard and gives the effect that someone is shouting...

It sounds like you could do with a multitrack package like Cubase/Logic Audio etc etc... They come in some lesser versions (under £100) which may suit you. Recording vocals is then easy with a suitable mic and suitable mic input, a mixing desk is recommended as the output can go straight into your computers audio inputs.

Recording tape is simple as a line level output from a tape machine is compatible with a line level audio input on a computer or sound/audio card... What audio capabilities do you have?

Good luck

p.s. demo of cubase available from the download section of this website...

Audio Static on Mac from Digital recording

I recorded some video/audio - music & vocals - on professional digital DV tape - it sounded great on the camera play back and the inital capture on the MAC - but the final playback is full of static. Is there anything out there I can use to remove the static? Is there a particular audio mixing software that will remove the static? I'm new to this, but sure could use some help. Thanks.

Hmmmm...

Forget the removal of the static sound and try and establish where this is happening in the first place. Did you transfer with firewire??? It could be many things from a bad lead to an overloaded signal.

Digital distortion is a funny beast. A lot of people don't recognise it as they are used to tape distortion. Digital distortion happens after 0db and you should therefore keep recording levels below that. Have you tried just importing the audio on it's own with a program that provides an audio level meter? Also, some of those camera speakers wont give you the full story. Listen to the camera output carefully as you may find it's there already... headphones would be good.

Other than that, good luck....!

Nero will not let me select anything other than the image recorder, which means a number of optons (like mutli-session cd's) are not available to me. Any ideas?

crossfade in Soundforge

Is there any plug in for aligning 2 files and crossfading them. I've tried to align manually but it never seems to be right.
thanks in advance,

Under the edit menu (I think) You'll find the copy and paste functions. You have to first copy the part you want to crossfade, then you highlight the area where you want to paste to. Then go to 'paste special' and you'll find the crossfade function there. You'll have to experiment a bit but you'll soon get the hang of it.

Need good bass software HELP MEEeee!

Hey, I've been looking for a program, possibly free?, that i can make good basslines for my music with. I make primarily DnB/Jungle music and I need something to make that signature sub bass sound. If you know any programs that you use yourself and where I can either buy them or download them, please E-mail me at hopesfall2001@aol.com...I'd really appreciate it...
Ryan

Don't forget...

...the good 'ol organ... A lot of people I know get some great bass sounds by combining a suitable clean organ with a very transient bass sound. Combining sounds is a very useful art....

Newbie needs help with looping a sample

hi!
I have a nice collection of stereo choral samples in .WAV format. I can't figure out how to make them into nice loops. There are two problems:

1) It's a stereo sample, and I can't seem to find a place where both channels cross zero simultaneously: anything I try makes a "bump" sound over the loop, and

2) It's a sample that has a beginning fricative consonant that I'd like to keep. In other words, the sample starts and then I want the loop to happen somewhere after the start, looping cleanly from there on.

Does my question make sense? Does anyone have advices for me and if there is a FAQ somewhere that I should look at please let me know.

Thanks!

Trial and Error....

The common way is to start the playback and then loop at a point that is similar to the very last part of the wave. The loop is often placed part way through and takes a hell of a lot of fiddling. Zero crossing isn't going to happen as it demands a part with no sound... What I do (rarely have to) is loop the whole section and then move the first loop point through the wave until you hear it working. Play the loop at the same time and move the start point in real time. It's not easy and some loops are never perfect. It depends on the evolution of the original piece.

Inserting a mediocre loop into a reverb or ambient effect can take away the harsh realities of the lumpy loops that we end up with... The long and short of it is, it's a struggle but there is always something there that will work if you try all avenues.

best wishes

Steve...R
